We stayed here overnight as part of a road trip. It was a bustling place but not in a bad way. It was a lovely old building. Our room had recently been refurbished. The refurbishment was good and it was a nice clean room. However the room really was tiny. There was just nowhere to put anything and I ended up temporarily losing my car keys as a result which put me in a bit of a panic. The bed however was comfortable and it had nice clean sheets. Overall ok but the small size did negatively impact on the overall experience

Reception unattended upon arrival, a sign directed us to the bar. Check in was quick and efficient. Magnificent entry to the building, a large carved wooden staircase. The building is heritage listed. There was a selection of rooms , we booked a room with ensuite . The room was very small as was the ensuite. The bed was comfortable it had an electric blanket. There was a bar fridge with tea and coffee making facilities provided. I stopped in room 5 there was a loud vibration from an exhaust or air conditioner in the kitchen area. The noise started around 5pm and ended around 9 pm. We had to book in for dinner, the restaurant was full. Our meals were enjoyable I had the Salmon my companions had the Surf and turf and Past.Complimentary Breakfast was continental, consisting of cereal toast juice tea and coffee. There was one 4 slice toaster for a dozen people to use and only one side of it worked. I think we should have eaten at the Rails cafe across the road at the train station. Paying extra money would have been worthwhile . Would I stop there again, yes but breakfast elsewhere

Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave us such a detailed review. The continental breakfast is basic and free, not included in your room tarif. If you are looking for a cooked breakfast we definitely recommend The Tracks Cafe located across the road. Excellent to read you enjoyed your meals and enjoyed the age and heritage features of our Hotel. Thanks again, The Empire Hotel

Queenstown gets a bad rap, but the industry scarring across some of the hills seems to be slowly recovering and becoming more scenic. The historic railway was lovely, but we had a 3yr big into trains, so we were the right audience. In terms of the hotel itself, I enjoyed our couple of nights here, and the room we had was very generous in size (overlooking the railway). The bar-flys have their charm and the pub restaurant had some augmented classics which were right up my alley. The staff did seem a little aloof, but who knows what was going on that day.

The building itself would have once been very grand. There's still quite a bit of character (the staircase and dining room are highlights), but it is very dated in the common and bar areas. The room itself had been recently updated, and although very (very) small, was clean, had high ceilings and the bathroom was new. The Wi-Fi was good in the common areas but didn't work while we were in the room. The food in the restaurant was tasty and good value for money. Breakfast was included with the room and had a decent selection of cereal, toast, fruit, juice tea & coffee. Queenstown itself doesn't have much going on at all, but is good for a stop in between Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair. It's a shame as there's some lovely heritage buildings and it feels like it has potential. Overall, the hotel was good value for money, but it'd be great to see the hotel renovated and restored to its former glory.

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely old hotel. The twin room was small but served its purpose & we slept well. The shower was a beauty in the comfortably heated bathroom In most part the staff were lovely, the initial greeting from the girls at the bar was friendly & efficient The fellow at breakfast on the first day though was hopeless Things like coffee, glasses, plates completely ran out & he was annoyed if anyone asked for them. He blamed ‘his’ incompetent staff. Well they have a good incompetence teacher. Everything was sorted immediately when a lady came along on what she said was her day off The meals we had both nights were hot and delicious but running out of wine by the glass, in fact all different wines, was weird when a bottle could be purchased. Perhaps they could have opened one of them?? Very well positioned between the Paragon Theatre with its excellent mine tour & the station with its lovely cafe. Enjoyed our stay in quirky Queenstown. One of a kind
