We stayed at Ashfield based on previous recommendations on Trip Advisor and we were not let down. We have two young boys aged 5 and 3 and we were all made very welcome and had a wonderful stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the other guests were also very helpful.

We would definately recommend this place to others and if we return to Sydney we will be staying here.

It is well connected in terms of public transport as the bus stops just outside going in and returning from Sydney city centre. The train station is only a 10-15 minute walk with young children.

There are some excellent asian food stores, restaurants and mainstream supermarkets nearby in Ashfield Town which made life a little easier.

Overall a wonderful time was had by the whole family and we can't wait to return

This place was reccommended by a friend who had stayed last year.
It is a clean comfortable place and the staff are so friendly.
I found it handy to most places with buses at the door and the trains and shopping center a short walk away. Definitely value for money

My partner and I stayed for a week at Ashfield Manor and were pleasantly suprised. It is a warm friendly place and the staff were so helpful. It felt like being in a family home though there are quite a few guests. This was a bonus as conversation over breakfast was very rewarding.
The rooms are very clean as are the bathrooms and actually the whole place,( A big plus for us ) and suprisingly quiet. There are about three lounge rooms you can visit but our favourite was the courtyard where we could take our breakfast out to eat.The managers, Sandy, Chi and Gabrielle were so nice and helpful, we had many conversations and gained helpful tips. The beds are very comfortable though the rooms are a bit small. The breakfast is a continental with some wonderful breads ( try the fruit sour- dough, to die for ) There is coffee and tea, basic, any time in the lounge and papers in the morning. Transport is excellent with a bus outside which takes you into to city centre and trains a short walk which take you to the centre or the Olympic park or up to the Blue mountains.
We hired a car and parking is pretty limited in the B&B but we found no problem in parking in the streets nearby, a short walk and pretty safe. In Ashfield there is a big supermarket but you can buy very cheaply in the little shops abound in the area. They have a beautiful kitchen with everything you need to cook a banquet. There is also a multitude of restaurants in the area and we found out Little Italy, Leichhardt, is only a short bus trip away for dinner, coffee or shops. Summer Hill village is also worth a walk to have a coffee or just look around.
All in all we had a great stay in Sydney by staying here and have no problems recommending Ashfield Manor. Discounts are given for weekly stays but don't be late on check in as they charge you for having someone stay in the office after seven pm

The Location of Ashfield Manor Sydney is terrific, walking distance from Ashfield and Summer Hill. You'd be better off staying at one of the other two motels on the same block though, in order to avoid the rude staff at Ashfield Manor. The owner especially has taken a page out of Basil Fawlty’s book when it comes to customer service.

Upon arrival the wifi was out of order due to a big storm. Fair enough, that can happen, so we waited a day for it to be fixed. The next day the staff still seemed in no hurry to fix the wifi, and seemed to use the storm as an convenient excuse to not repair it anytime soon. As I had to work online while travelling I got a bit worried, but Jen at reception told me to "just go out and buy yourself a few hours" - which they were not going to reimburse me for.

After ringing Booking.com their customer service desk offered to move us to a different property, but we decided to give Ashfield Manor Sydney another shot. The next time Jen at reception saw me she was cranky at me that I rang Booking.com, and assured me that this wasn't going to get the wifi fixed any quicker - eventhough it was suddenly fixed straight away.

The day before checking out the hot water was out while I was trying to take a shower. After having my cold shower I enquired at the reception, which was my encounter with the owner. Instead of saying "Oh, sorry for that, we should have let you known", his response at me having a cold shower was "Well it was only out for five or ten minutes". Nice, thanks.

Our last night the wifi login wasn’t working anymore and as reception was closed we had to purchase a $10 plan to use the internet for work purposes. Upon checkout the next day I enquired with the owner about having these $10 refunded and he laughed at me. He explained the wifi is “Compuhmentary” (he was obviously excited he knew such a difficult word eventhough he didn’t get it right) and therefore I couldn’t get anything reimbursed because I wasn’t paying for it. Well that’s a nice reply to get after having just spent over a thousand dollars there for 8 nights of accommodation. After asking what was wrong with the wifi he admitted the password was reset the day before and no one bothered to tell us, yet he still refused to pay back the ten dollars.

Ashfield Manor Sydney could be an awesome place if it would be run by the right people. The owner’s wife is doing her best but her husband sounds, talks and looks like a tradie and should probably go back to construction or whatever it was he did before he thought he could run a hotel, just so that he doesn’t have to deal with customers anymore. I do feel sorry for the friendly Asian cleaning lady, having experienced firsthand how they treat their customers I don’t even want to know how they treat their staff.

Response from Margherita F, Manager at Ashfield Manor
Responded 6 Mar 2017
Jules, we are pleased that you found Ashfield Manor to be in a great location. All staff, and that includes the proprietors, at Ashfield Manor regard critical reviews as helpful to us to ensure that we do things better for our guests comfort in the future. However, how dare you reduce your review to an attack on our staff to the level of defamation? It is expected that you as a guest review the property, and the service or your perceived lack of, but to attempt to publically humiliate a person is absolutely unacceptable. The problem with reviews is that those reading them have to rely on the writer telling the whole truth and not taking things out of context to suit their own need for attention. Yes we did advise you to purchase a few hours of internet connection outside of the Manor, solely because you were relentless in your demands about having to work and having no internet connection was preventing you from doing so. I must add here that we were in the process of having a complete new internet system installed which involved much more than flicking a switch. Unfortunately, as Sydney was experiencing severe storms at the time, the process was taking a little longer than expected. This was explained to all guests, most of whom understood our dilemma. (I did advise you that the WIFI was in the process of repair when you checked in) But you Jules, informed us that the WIFI signal from the hotel next door was quite strong and you wanted us to ask them for their password for you to use! Seriously? Then you contacted Booking.com whom you made the original booking with, and asked them to ask me to get the password for you to use the WIFI of another establishment? I did question you on your return regarding same, and advised you that the WIFI of another establishment would not be accessible to you, and that to ring Booking.Com about it again would prove fruitless. At no time were we disrespectful to you, we were just incredulous that you actually wanted us to do that. From memory, the WIFI was in fact available, shortly thereafter, as was explained to you many, many times. Your patience would have been appreciated, but unfortunately, this is obviously not one of your virtues. And as for refunding the $10 you allegedly paid for private WIFI? From our perspective, is just like our complimentary breakfast. It is free, so unfortunately, if we don’t have the type of bread/cereal/fruit/tea/coffee that you demand, then unfortunately you must go without, and no refund is expected or demanded. In closing, dealing with rude, disrespectful and demanding guests is unfortunately par for the course and taken in stride by all staff at the Manor. We make all possible attempts to ensure our guests comfort during their stay, as attested to by many other happy customers.

My wife and I are Australians and we have to visit our Homeland every year to pay tax and have our medical examinations. We have stayed at Ashfield Manor every time. We always take the same room upstairs as it is small but has its own bathroom. This place is always very clean and the breakfast, cereals and a variety of breads is adequate. The first time we stayed there the owner was running the place and had just hired a manager. She is pleasant and helpful, especially to those who are not familiar with the location. Next year when we go back we will again stay at Ashfield Manor.

It is so hard to find a decent place that is clean and with a good atmosphere. This is the place. I have been to so many places that offer the earth and deliver mud, all for a high price. As soon as I walked in I felt at home. Sandy and Chi were lovely and so helpful. The place is clean and handy to transport. Coffee and tea is always available in the lounge room and the commercial kitchen can house many and was vital in saving quite a sum in being able to cook your own meals rather than having to eat out. The rooms are small but comfortable and the en-suite was very clean. Parking is pretty limited on site but we had no trouble in finding a street park close by. Highly recommended.

I stayed here for two weeks and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The staff were friendly and showed genuine concern. The rooms were clean though a bit small.
The beds were comfortable with fresh clean linen and good pillows. Being on the main road I thought there would be a lot of noise at night. Not the case, I was pleasantly surprised and the lack of noise and a comfortable sleep. The shower had plenty of pressure. Breakfast was a mixture of 6 different bread types and 7 diffeerent cereals. Tea and coffee was 24/7. Plenty of lounges and a lovely courtyard to sit in with papers each morning to read. The bus is about 20m away and the train about 350m away. This gives access to just about everywhere and the city centre is virtually 5- 10min by train.
All in all I would definetely reccommend this place and I will be staying here on my next visit to ydney

I decided to stay here, just for one night, for an event that I was attending in Ashfield area.

Pleasant service and atmosphere. Beds and rooms in general are very clean and comfortable and include fresh linen, towels, hot (good pressure) shower, wardrobe, fridge(!) and a big screen TV.

Breakfast comes included in the price; just the basics, tea, toast and cereal, which is nice. The place is pretty quiet, despite it being on a main road. It's very close to Sydney city and a bus stops right outside. Ashfield has a lot of fantastic, low priced Chinese restaurants so you won't go hungry!

The biggest downfall for me and the reason that I won't stay here again, is the heavily deodorised carpet. The smell was overwhelming and after that one night, I ended up with a sinus cold. Such a shame because in every other aspect it's really a nice place. If they could stop using whatever it is they're using to 'deodorise' the rooms, it'd be great. I'm sure the place can't smell THAT bad without it!

Bad location for tourist:
1.It is 20 mins away from the train station, don't believe what they say on the website, many quoted 5 mins, 8 mins or max 10 mins. It is not funny to walk when you are carrying your luggage or carrying your shopping bags. The train service from the city to Ashfield start around 4am and ends at 11pm, which didn't allow you to get much of the night life in the city, inorder to catch the last train
2. Ashfield is like a chinatown, heavily pouplated by chineses with many chinese resturants but they have only 1 small shopping center and a pub near the train station. You can find similar stores in the city anyway. No buzz at all.
3. A bus stop is right infront but only come every 30 mins in peak hour and every 1 hour off peak, which is bad for tourist to go to the city, where "life" is.

Not worth the trouble to stay and I would recommend to pay Aus$100 more in the city if you can mange to find a room. I have no choice as I only booked my accomdation 4 days before. You have to pay for the internet access, which many hotels in Sydney can offer free wirless for guest. You need to pay a 25% deposit fee to secure the booking and they will charge you for the entire booking if you cancel 14 days before your stay. Many other hotels can offer more flexibility.

Good: Hotel is very clean and cosy. Room is clean and nice with Air-conditioning, LCD TV, hot water and shower gels, shampoo and lotion.

Boy this guest had a bad hair day. The train station is a max 10minutes walk, the bus outside goes every 10 to15 minutes peak hour and every 30 minutes until 8pm when it switches to hourly. Ashfield is a major train station with hundreds of shops and restaurants, a large mall and a number of clubs and pubs. Please read our website for all information and other reviews.
