Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The hosts maybe very nice but apart from clean sheets and the air con did work that’s all I can say ...so old and tired with dodgy maintenance...no toiletries provided ...minimum towels and pillows ... Wifi password didn’t work ...I would not want to do any thing but fall asleep in the room ...sorry but I will pay extra next time to be in a more modern and up to date accommodation

Average. Clean but old and not too keen to make improvements. Should try to get updated.Did not have fresh towels every day or toiletries. If you want to be near the hustle and the bustle, look somewhere nearer.

Budget hotel that needs renovating. Located on the side of a hill but no view of the Islands or harbour from here. For an overnight stay it fits the purpose. Quiet room but requires full blockout curtains at front of room. Its air conditioned but no ceiling fans. Has basic amenities, TV, Electric jug, toaster, refrigerator. Parking no problem but not under cover. Short drive to center of Airlie Beach. Not really walking distance as up and down hills. Courtesy bus available to Jubilee Tavern nearby.

Frank, the owner, is very rude. Like walking on eggshells the whole time.
He's always grumpy and speaks very rudely to his wife, loud enough to have been woken to him belittling her.

No cooking facilities, no laundry facilities, no ironing allowed in the room either

We made a huge error and booked three nights here for an apartment which has no air conditioning!! We ended up only staying one night. The strong odors of mildew and geckos running about inside the apartment were signs we'd made a bad decision to stay here. The second night we had plans to do a Reef Sleep with Cruise Whitsundays and decided we'd pay for this night instead of storing our luggage during this adventure. Turned out to be very expensive storage. We decided to head back to Mackay instead of staying one more night at this motel. Our recommendation is to ALWAYS book a place with A/C when traveling in the summer along the northeast coast of Australia and check reviews before booking.

DO NOT STAY AT THE ISLANDS INN MOTEL, The owners are fraudsters and stole my money. I booked then cancelled the same date due to change of travel date. They took my money and now refused to refund. I cancelled within the timeframe for free cancellation. Yet they refused to refund, I got email confirmation as proof. The owners are RUDE and have no respect of anyone, the husband swore over the phone and refused to discuss my query. DO NOT STAY AT THIS MOTEL. My bank is now chasing these fraudsters to recover my money.

We were driving from Cairns to the Gold Coast and booked in electronically about 6:00 pm stating we would arrive between 10-11:00 pm.

Cynthia was on the phone shortly after to let us know:
1. The office would be closed, and
2. The room number and how to access it.

She was bright and bubbly not letting us off the phone until she was sure we understood everything.

The room was dated but need, tidy and everything worked.

In the morning we met Frank who was the male version of Cynthia and full of stories about the area and the services available.

Both are verY hosts and although we were only there over night we will remember both Cynthia and Frank for a long time.
