Another visit over the January holiday period to our fave Palm Cove resort. We found our room had great views over the lush gardens, pool, and beyond to the palm fringed beach.

The apartments here all have one bedroom with fully equipped kitchen, and bathroom. We had over two weeks holiday at the resort and self-catered much of the time, although the restaurants and cafes along the street pulled us in many times too.

We like the apartment servicing schedule with twice per week refresh meaning we were not disturbed. The managers, Marg and Steve, are great. Friendly and helpful, they can organise and suggest plenty in this region, though we didn’t go to the beautiful Great Barrier Reef for snorkelling this time.

The garden and pool and barbeque area are great, and we used it almost every day. We prefer a smaller resort like this to the bigger, busier ones. It’s not new but it’s well maintained.

Looking forward to our next visit already!

After getting off to a rocky start with the room not being quite ready at check in time, our fears were quickly allayed by the cleanliness and location of this fantastic resort. The apartment was fully self contained and came stocked with grocery essentials such as bin liners, washing up stuff, toiletries and a fully equipped kitchen. Being able to sit in the loungeroom and hear the waves washing up on the beach was very relaxing and set the tone for our stay. The pool was clean and rarely busy and beach lounges were always available in a private and beautifully landscaped garden. The managers were very friendly and helpful with tips and questions, taking our bags up the stairs to our second floor room with balcony and unspoiled views of the ocean. Amazing location in the middle of the esplanade, plenty of onsite parking and a 3 minute walk to the bus stop. Will definitely be back.

Palm Cove is by far the best of Cairns Northern Beaches. Williams Esplanade is where you want to be when staying. There are many complexes along the Esplanade and many are quite costly yet offer no ocean views so easy to be misled. Melaleuca offers good quality apartments in a well maintained building set in wonderful gardens with beyond doubt the best pool on Williams Esplanade. Friendly managers just add another benefit. Through work and holiday have been back and forth to Cairns, Northern Beaches, Port Douglas etc since 2007 so this review not a starry eyed one off

Margaret and Stephen run a wonderful boutique apartment resort. The photos don't really show how close it is to the beach and the wonderful sound of the waves as you sit on the balcony looking at the view is....perfect. The apartment has everything you need for your stay, clean, comfortable, well appointed, with the hosts providing great advice from the best coffee to transfers, reef dive bookings and generally looking after you but never intrusive. Of course there are more glamorous accommodations in Palm Cove but I can't imagine them giving you the feel for the tropics that Melaleuca does. Perhaps it's the amazing garden and just right size pool. See you again!

These apartments are probably 30 to 40 years old and whilst they are clean and presentable they are getting outdated. The bed in ours was new but the furniture was very very tired. To access a ground floor unit from the car park it's approximately 14 steps, double that if you are on the first floor. There is no lift and the owners/managers are too old to provide porterage for luggage up the stairs. Given the access situation we were surprised that most guests appear to be 65+.
This is a couples resort, maybe 3 people Max.
The location is great and nearly all rooms have ocean views.
Would we come back, maybe?
Another tip, we got a price directly and also a price via our travel agent, surprisingly the travel agent was 20% cheaper!

Melaleuca Resort is not for everyone - yes we do have stairs. However to say the managers are too old to provide porterage is incorrect suggest that you may have been better to pay a higher price and book a Peppers or Sea Temple which provides that service. We do have an older clientele who enjoy the serenity of our luscious tropical garden. And what you didn't know is that Stephen had just been through a major operation which prohibited him for any work and lifting. Tip - agents are not always cheaper!

Great location and beautiful pool and garden area. Private free parking. Room well equiped and clean. However it was advertised as having satellite/cable channels and free wifi but the wifi was unusable and kept cutting out and also their satellite/cable had been disconnected by the owners the week before we arrived. We were very disappointed and asked to leave after one night and the owners did agree to refund our remaining nights with no penalty. Thank you. We felt we did not get what was advertised. It was a pity because grounds and location was good but at the price of the rooms you should get what is advertised.

Thank you Thommo for your comments. You must have arrived during the time of changeover to high speed NBN which was supposed to be virtually 'overnight' however it turned into a saga of a few weeks which was totally out of our control. We now have high speed NBN - no Foxtel - but guests seem to be happy to be able to access their Netflix etc accounts. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Palm Cove.

We had a very enjoyable 8 nights at Melaleuca and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had glorious 28C days although there was quite a bit of afternoon wind and we found it too cool to stay on the balcony for long most evenings. The location is absolutely ideal being in the middle of the restaurant area, right across the road from the beach and only a short walk from the flags. We made good use of the pool and bbq and the unit was roomy and well appointed. We'd love to return!

Owners of this place are beyond disgusting and arrogant, my sister & I caught Covid a day before we had to fly which is completely out of our control and already caused enough stress on the flights. She called and the owner (Steven) had told her there is nothing she can do and to basically go and shove it, also told her ‘Covid is basically over’, wish I had recorded the call. Called back to finally speak to someone else and Steven’s wife picked up who was just as rude. Told us to contact booking.com after also telling us that ’booking.com does not pick up’ when we did get a hold of booking.com they were extremely understanding and helpful but had to contact the resort before hand. And Ofcourse Steven and his arrogant wife declined this. Then continued to threaten us by charging 3 nights cancellation policy and when we called booking.com back, they cancelled without any fee. These people should not be running a business at all, especially with that attitude. Please do not support this company.

When you book with an on like booking agent is Booking.com you have to go back to the agent you booked with and change the booking. You tried to cancel the booking with us directly which we were unable to do - this is what you didn't understand that it was out of our hands. Booking.com could have charged us commission on the booking even if you didn't come and not cancelled. In the end you did contact Booking.com and receive a full refund.

Melaleuca Resort is in a great position in Palm Cove and the gardens give privacy from the street whilst providing great ocean views from the decks outside each apartment . We were however disappointed in the condition of our apartment which was really outdated and needing a complete renovation . The whiteware particularly was well past it's use by date and the general cleanliness left a lot to be desired. The blinds were particularly dirty and the furniture had obviously not been moved for some considerable time, which we discovered when dropping something on the floor which disappeared under the sofa.
The managers Stephen & Margaret were pleasant however we felt that their general hospitality was lacking.
We have advised them of our issues and they have responded advising 'We are constantly upgrading different items in the unit. We will attend to the matters raised with priority'

Stinger nets at the beach are not totally effective. We do not swim in the sea during stinger season. Extreme danger!!! No sun lounges for hire there. Resort pool is safe. Sun lounges and chairs by the pool and gardens. Winter is best to visit here.
