We have been staying at the Reef House for 22 years.

We love the fact that it still has all its charm and history.

Not much has changed except the rooms are more beautifully decorated all the little touches and inclusions make it more of a 5 star experience.

Some of the little touches include complimentary wine tasting & cocktail making classes, cold refreshment towels at 11AM around the pool, the complimentary sorbet handed out around the pool at 3pm and of course the punch and canapés at 5pm.

3 days a week you can meet lovely Norm who serves the punch in the Brigadier Lounge. He has been working at the Reef House in various capacities for 20 years or so, he is a charming man.

We also had the pleasure of speaking with a Marine Biologist Dr Glen Burns who comes to do presentations at the Reef House.
It was more like a fascinating conversation, his knowledge and stories made for a very informative and fabulous afternoon.
If you have the chance, you definitely should speak with him.

The Day Spa is also worth a visit they offer beautiful treatments. Jasmine is fantastic and you will come out feeling so relaxed as is you are floating on cloud 9.

The Reef House always reminds us of Raffles Singapore with its charming colonial feel, its 5 star attention to detail and the continuation of beautiful old traditions like the honesty bar and the punch and canapé’s.

All the staff are wonderful and the service and food is simply fantastic. We chose to dine at The Reef House most of the time as the Chefs do an outstanding job, the food and service never disappoints.

On that note we would like to thank some staff, although unfortunately, we can’t remember all their names.

First and foremost Cédric Lootvoet (luxury concierge), he is charming and very welcoming.
Cédric is really the face of The Reef House making sure everyone is happy and enjoying their stay and made to feel special.

Wayne Harris (GM), it was lovely to talk to him on check out, and heart warming that he wanted to know our thoughts on our stay and our overall experience.

We would also like to thank Joel the sommelier. He hosts a wonderful and informative wine tasting experience and at dinner time he is very good at finding a wine to either match the menu or that suits your individual tastes.

We love the wonderful service from everyone and how international it is with all the staff either from Australia and all around the world like France, Spain, Italy, Japan and in fact Mayumi one of the Japanese waitresses was so sweet and engaging it was a pleasure to speak with her every morning.

Thank you for an amazing stay we can’t wait to return.

This was part of our honeymoon adventure in Australia. We had arrived at The Reef House after spending 5 days prior in the hustle and bustle tourist hub of Sydney. Upon our arrival at the Reef House, which we had arranged transport from Cairns Airport, we were greeted with an iced tea and citrus-infused cool towel. It was the perfect solution to help combat the 95 degree+ temperatures and humid weather. The front desk staff was friendly, and provided us with two keys. We arrived to our room and found robes, a cheese/cracker tray, and a bottle of champagne. Probably to help us celebrate our special occasion. Our room also had a whirlpool jacuzzi and a kitchenette - both outside and covered under our private veranda. Our room also had a small refrigerator. The Reef House offers two pools - one of which is for adults only. They also have their own spa available and I partook in a couples massage. It was far too hot for us to truly enjoy the whirlpool & jacuzzi so we did not do that. Since this was our longest leg of the trip, and also in the middle of our honeymoon, we elected to do some laundry by hand, and we hung up some clothes outside to dry. Around the Reef House, there are many restaurants, a pharmacy, and a convenience store. And, of course, the Pacific Ocean as Palm Cove sits along part of Australia's eastern coastline. Our hotel room included the breakfast buffet and we could upgrade to any menu item for AUD$15 if desired. Dinner options are available for those who have a rather sophisticated palette. They also offer pedal bicycles to take for a ride, and a wide array of DVDs to check out. The history of the Reef House is quite interesting, and would recommend for you to read up on it if you have the opportunity. Overall, the staff is really nice and friendly, and don't be afraid to talk with other house guests.m

We have stayed in other accommodation in Palm Cove in the past, but with the Luxury Escapes Package of 5 nts it was too good to refuse! Our room was on the third floor, with a balcony overlooking the pool, and with the bar fridge located here, it was the ideal place to sit back with a drink in hand and relax. The location of the Hotel is very central, and we thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast as we never partake in Buffet style anyway. We added a Big Breakfast to the Continental, but I believe this is not readily promoted. It does cost extra, but well worth it, as the bacon was brilliantly flavoured and cooked to perfection along with the poached eggs.
The punch and canapes served every evening was a nice touch, as was the lovely bottle of sparkling wine and chocolates on our arrival. Underground parking along with Guest's laundry was much appreciated.
Congratulations to the dedication in trying to keep everyone safe re CV as there was a young man employed who continuously throughout the entire day wiped down chairs and tables around the pool plus glass gates etc.
We look forward to returning when in your area again!

The Reef House is perfectly located on the waterfront at Palm Cove, and is housed in an elegant colonial style wooden building which surrounds two swimming pools.
The rooms are bright and smart, and we loved sitting in the swinging chair on our balcony overlooking the pool. The bed is comfy, the towels big and soft. The “honour bar” is fun.
We had dinner one evening in the restaurant, and our main course was outstanding— one of the best fish dishes we’ve ever had. The entrees by comparison were a bit disappointing.
So far, all good.
Then there were some annoying features. From checkin, you are left to find your room with the help of a map. It was not at all easy, and we searched for some time. At checkout, we waited 15 minutes to be processed, as the single receptionist checked in 2 other guests. The hotel laundry requires 1 dollar coins to operate the machines, but reception had none. Breakfast in these Covid times was served to your table —it was the same each day, and was boring.
These deficiencies could be easily remedied and would then result in a 5 star experience— as it is, it is a lovely property letting itself down in the service area

This is a mixed review:

Negative Items -

We had high expectations for our stay and splashed out on a 1 bed studio at $470 per night for our 4 night stay. I was shocked when we were shown to our room, it felt like we had just checked into a 2 star motel found on a major highway.

The room was rundown and in need of updating and the view from the balcony was the carpark next door. It was such a disappointment and we expect we were given the worst room in the resort going by other reviews on here. We thought we had checked into a totally different resort.

The first day of our stay we were informed by QLD government that we had to have a Covid test and isolate in our room. What would have been nice from the hotel was a welfare check to see if we required anything. The hotel could have arranged a plate of the complimentary canapés or cocktail drink at happy hour.

The food choices from the restaurant are very limited if vegetarian which made it tough during lockdown.

After complaining about our room, we were upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment overlooking the main street. This room was much better than our original room but when we checked the cost per night (almost double) we would had expected so much more. These rooms were tired and require a refurbishment , parts of the balcony were rusting away.

The brigadier bar is a more of a large mini bar at mini bar prices and no atmosphere at all.

The wifi in the hotel was unstable, weak and kept disappearing for long periods of time.

The TV’s in the room are just Free To Air with no smart TV or Foxtel available.

Positive Items

The location is perfect and it is close to everything Palm Cove has to offer. The staff were all very friendly and Cedrik goes above and beyond trying to make sure all guests are happy. Cedrik is a credit to the resort.

The toiletries are of high quality and free push bikes are a great option for people.

We would not recommend this hotel to any of our friends unless the resort when under a major refurbishment.

I award very few 'Excellent' ratings but our recent stay at The Beach House is truly deserving. We had the 5 night Luxury Escape package. In particular, the location is great being right in the middle of the Palm Cove 'strip' and right opposite a patrolled beach.

From our arrival and welcome from the wonderful Emma to the great service from Pierre and the young lady form Brazil in the dining room and many others the staff really made our visit so very pleasurable. As my wife says, it's the little things...

Our room was a good size and had an expansive balcony looking over the pool on the second floor. The king bed was very comfortable. There was plenty of luggage space and the bathroom was a good size with plenty of bench space. Sleep quality was excellent.

The included continental breakfast turned out to be far more than that. After a platter of delicious fruit and a plate of fresh pastries we ordered from a menu of about 6 hot food options. We tried all of them and each was exceptionally good.

We only had dinner in the dining room on one evening as the meals were substantially more expensive than in the many other restaurants within a 5 minute stroll in either direction from the hotel. Having said that, the meal was superb and definitely the best duck I have had in a very long time.

We loved the included alcoholic cocktails which comprised a different alcoholic punch each evening accompanied by light canapés. The sorbet served by the pool each afternoon was also a nice touch. We also liked the self serve bar which worked on an honesty system.

All in all we had a fabulous stay and look forward to a return visit.

We stayed over New Year and it was a lovely relaxing end to a rough year. We were collected from the airport and had a good journey to Palm Cove. We were in room 102 and we loved the location of it, as it was at the front we could see the sea and it had a lovely private feel with the planting around it. We had breakfast included in our deal and it was very good, much more than anticipated – we expected the continental breakfast but we got that and an item off the menu, which meant you got a very good breakfast every day. We enjoyed the sorbet by the pool at 3pm, it was a lovely little bonus and really did help cool you down. We attended the happy hour drinks and each day was a different special with canape. We had massages which were truly relaxing, so much so we booked a second one! We also had evening meal included in our deal and the food was excellent. There is nothing we could say didn't meet expectations, everything exceeded them. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We look forward to returning again.

We absolutely loved our stay. The resort is a smaller boutique style, which means even at full capacity it’s not overcrowded. The adults only pool was fantastic and even the other pool was not noisy. I found the service excellent- special call out to Collin on reception, who was fantastic. We had the degustation at the restaurant for dinner which was beautiful food. In fact we had had lunch a few times - food was excellent. I have read some other comments about the resort being old and tired. This is not true - the resort has an old world charm and has been beautifully kept to fit in with the surrounding tropics environment (ie it’s not a city Hilton hotel with polished white tiles and nor should it be). Both pools were beautiful to swim in and relax around. The hotel has a beautiful relaxing atmosphere and is extremely clean. We stayed in a king spa veranda room which was perfect. It was so quiet and peaceful, the perfect place to relax. Loved the complimentary punch and canapés at 5pm. I would highly recommend this resort.

With a stunning view from your dining table, at Reef House you enjoy not only the premium location but the most highly awarded Restaurant in Palm Cove. All the staff, (Bar, Lounge, Housekeeping and Concierge team are highly professional and friendly. The Cocktails are great and we enjoyed the charming blend of a more elegant bygone era (sorbets by the pool at 3 pm, canapes and punch in the Lounge at 5 pm), with the laid-back casual vibe of the Cove. We loved our huge room overlooking tropical gardens and pool. Six days is not enough!

Palm Cove is our go to place in FNQ these days and this time stayed at the Reef House for the 1st time - probably not the last - as the place just oozes character even if it is in dire need of a good piece of TLC as getting a bit jaded around the edges in many places. But this pales into some insignificance when off set by the amazing staff and their interaction with guests making no issue to big to resolve. Cedric leads from the front but the girls & guys around the place just make you feel so at ease. The restaurant is pretty much up there and once they get a separate vintage wine list up and running it's going to give all other fine dining restuarants in town a big shake up in our opinions. The rooms are a tad tired but clean spacious with everything you need for a chillaxing time, and not a screaming child to be heard at the venue - bonus!! The little extra touches they put on for their guests just makes it feel like your home away from home so looking forward to our next venture north where The Reef House is probably going to be at the head of the accommodation list! Well done everyone keep smiling
