Looking for a true Outback experience? Next stop, Discovery Parks - Pilbara, Karratha (formerly Pilbara Holiday Park). Karratha means 'good country' in the language of the local Indigenous community and you'll be awestruck by the raw, natural treasures of the Pilbara in Australia's North West. The massive gorges, crystal clear rock pools and waterfalls of Karijini National Park are a must-see. Just off the coast, the Dampier Archipelago and Mackerel Islands offer world-class boating, fishing, diving and snorkelling and the seasonal natural phenomenon, Staircase to the Moon, is extraordinary. Our holiday park's excellent accommodation choices are perfect for resting up at the end of a long day.

Being two couples with one car we booked a deluxe 2 Bedroom Unit for one night. Check-in was very quick and easy and the car park was next to the unit which allowed a simple transfer of suitcases and other staff from the car to the accommodation. There were 2 bedrooms, a living room and a bathroom, while the kitchen was large and complete. This accommodation can be suitable for two couples of friends but is more suitable for a family because one of the two bedrooms had bunk beds. The rooms were clean and very useful was the presence of the washing machine in the unit. Although there were many people at the Discovery Park, we slept well with no noise problem. Good accommodation at a reasonable price for this area

This is the second time I have visited Karratha on two wheels and stayed at this park. First time in a tent and this time in a cabin (I’m getting soft).
Both times I have found the staff to be excellent and welcoming and the amenities to be adequate for my needs. I originally had booked an en-suite site for 3 nights in the tent but my travel plans changed and they easily helped change to two nights in a cabin with no stress.
Good amenities in the room with kitchenette and en-suite bathroom, double bed, tv etc. The park itself seems in pretty good condition with housekeeping and the grounds on point.
Would definitely stay here again if visiting Karratha.
Oh and the pool is excellent and was a pleasant relief after riding into town on a near on 40c degree day 🥵

Good service lovely staff we stayed for 2 nights was only ment to be one but decided to explore more. Staff extended stay no worries friendly people. Good price for 2 adults and 3 kids. Quiet park no trouble (touch wood for tonight) rooms clean just blankets in main room horrible like rain jackets lucky for spares. Kids loved bunk beds and made some nice friends at pool. Pool shuts a little to early i think when still hot at 8pm. Broome hotel pools shut 8pm. You get what you pay for nice cozy 2 bedroom chalet. Good working air con and cold bottles water. Coffee Tea Milk etc. Would def visit again on next trip around WA with kids. Main think you feel welcomed unlike some places we have stayed on trip perth to broom and back

We arrived here after two weeks in the outback and while temperatures were at 39/41 degrees C during the day and 27 degrees at night to spend two days cleaning off the dust. The air conditioning unit was way too small for the villa and did NOT work sufficiently to reduce the temperature in the room. The cold water is actually HOT making it impossible to cool down unless u jump in the pool. We made a complaint to the office to no avail. The room cost in excess of $170 per night and we booked two nights - massive disaster. These people do not care about their customer/clients.

We recently stayed here for three nights in a tent and felt the 'campers' weren’t really catered for in this park.

The tent area is at one end of the park, next to the pool, and quite a distance from the showers and toilets. The pool has a toilet that can be used during the day, but this is locked at night (for duty of care reasons, I expect). Therefore, it’s a very long walk at night to get to the toilets – not fun.

The camp kitchen near the tent sites was desperately in need of a refresh. There had obviously been a bit of money spent recently on a great fridge, hotplate and microwave, but overall, the whole room was tiny and very dirty and needed a deep clean. Note that the guests were all cleaning their messes, the dirt that needed cleaning was the responsibility of the park.

There were a large number of washing machines in the park, but only two were working, and there was a constant queue. When we asked if there were more machines, the staff just said they couldn't get someone in to fix them due to COVID, which is understandable, but it doesn’t make a trip enjoyable if you are spending your time waiting in the laundry to make sure you get a turn to use the machine. The laundries are a long way from the tent sites, so you can’t just keep an eye out while you relax at your site.

The toilets and showers were ok and the water was hot. They are clean enough. However, they are very old and could do with a refresh - at least a coat of paint and a high pressure clean. It also wouldn't hurt to fill in all the holes in the walls from over the years and put in some more hooks in the women's showers - the holes indicate there used to be hooks.

The gas bottle refill service was great, thank you.

If you are in a caravan or camper trailer, the park seems much better set up. However, we can’t recommend this caravan park for tenters. If you are staying in a tent, this might not be the caravan park for you.

I looked on line at the pictures of the pool cabins & reviews .thought let's go on an adventure, have a Christmas holiday.
I packed my car and my Disabled Daughter and off we went . 70 k's out from town the park rang and wanted final payment..We arrived exhausted! They asked for payment up front .
Then told us we have cabin 44B And the pool is closed for maintenance. The cabin had 2 beds 2very uncomfortable wooden chairs .
The aircon was struggling, the ceiling fan was Full of dust and very noisy. The kitchen exhaust fan was black and looked dirty. Kitchen window couldn't open .glad we bought our own pillows, because the ones on the bed swelled and were lumpy , should be thrown out and bugs in the bed biting us .We had to go and buy antihistamines. 2 Windows on the back wall 1 with no fly screen .The shower ,when you turn it on ran like a hose pipe . The outside of the cabin was dirty . In need of a sweep and a paint job .the paving was uneven a trip risk dangerous .I had to do some laundry. The laundry room had 2 washers .the 1 I used did not spin the cloths out .dripping wet .I complained to the lady in the office about the disappointment off everything! She said the manager is on holidays and she would pass that on to him $ 736 .o.o for 4 nights .Waste of money the Discovery Park are all about the money don't care about the comfort of the guests .it's accommodation for fly in fly out people. Not people on holidays .

Spent a week here with friends also traveling. Being a discovery park we expected certain standards. Boy were we disappointed!!
The park is very old but that is no excuse for the filthy state everything is in. Cleaning ablutions takes about 8 minutes and looks no different any day. No sweeping the entrance, dirty floors, no dusting ledges, we saw the same bugs and dirt there the whole week. Dirt, ash and cobwebs on the floor and in corners.
Laundry is unhygienic as washing machine pipes just leach into an open drain which sometimes overflows.
Barbecue hot plates are cleaned every day but that is all. Area and tables surrounding are dirty and have bird poo on them.
Camp kitchen was locked but the outside was just as bad and neglected as everywhere else. Patio has broken sheetof Perspex so provides no shelter. Also flyscreen is missing from open window in camp kitchen.

A good short stay spot for tourists.
Many permanent accommodation units for workers in the region.

The sites with concrete pads & ensuite bathrooms are a good option for camper vans . A separate tent area is near to the small pool & campers kitchen.

Clean park with friendly staff in a harsh environment .

We stayed 7 nights as part of a "pay 5 get 7 nights", we had a on-suite caravan site on the first road of the park. The site has decent sized parking spaces for vans and our on-suite facility was clean but not serviced whilst we were there, i cannot comment on the public ablutions but the camp seemed to be tidy. It is not cheap to stay here so an expectation of top facility is expected. Karratha is a big industrial center for the Pilbara so a great deal of the site is taken up by workers, so if you are anticipating a quiet late morning get up then you are in for a shock, the camp comes to life from approx 04.30am onwards and the utes leaving for work will wake you up, not the worst or best place i have stayed but i should have stuck to the 5 days and then moved on.
