A permanent tent accommodation a little away from the El Questro tourist center - if you're looking for something like that, you'll find it here. The "outside location" is much smaller and quieter.
The accommodation met our expectations, very clean and practically furnished. A small terrace in front of the tent invites you to sit outside in the evening. The tent accommodations are at a sufficient distance.
The food offered is of very good quality.
This accommodation offers a good opportunity to explore the spots in the area. Emma Gorge is easy to hike from here. A 4WD is required for access to both El Questro Station and Emma Gorge (the Gibb River Road itself is paved here).

Our tent/cabin with ensuite was comfortable but very hot even with all flaps open. We had booked a twin but were given a family cabin which meant the single beds were secondary to the double bed and had no bed lamps or bedside tables. The cabins were well separated but some were a hike from the central resort area. Plenty of birds in the trees around the cabins – so very noisy in the morning.
Meals in the dining area provided plenty of choice but the food was not very hot – it had been sitting in the servers for too long. However, the soup was hot, thick and tasty. Tea drinkers get a choice of teas, while coffee drinkers are stuck with one brand of instant (unless they buy a barista coffee). Coffee bags would be appreciated.

We stopped with our caravan and dog at Emma Gorge resort not knowing anything about this place. WOW..... What am amazing wonderful uplifting experience. The reception staff greeted me with a huge smile and then proceeded to say they where happy to mind our elderly border Collie dog Flynn while we enjoyed the Gorge walk etc. They took him into the reception and office with cool air con and proceed to smoother him with love. Of course he lapped this up! Other staff are all so friendly and happy and the overall vibe is just lovely. After I told the staff about our difficult day yesterday with a mechanical breakdown and difficulties getting anything sorted and it was my husband's birthday, they then bought out a very nice slice of cake for him. Again we are lost for words. Good management and wonderful staff. We will always remember this day. Thankyou all!

To a large extent Emma Gorge basks in the reflected glory of El Questro Homestead’s glitzy reputation. But this is not the homestead even if even if the common dining/bar/lounging area renders a servicable imitation of same. The sprawling urban quasi-tented lodgings are simple and reasonably comfortable but their upkeep has been hit or miss and many of them are some way from the resort’s centre of gravity.

The good: The very well presented “Homestead” dining/bar/lounging facilities are, apart from Emma Gorge itself, the highlight of a stay here and the comestible offerings were well presented, wholesome and tasty. Our tented suite (queen + single bed) was adequately roomy, clean, quiet and provided for a comfortable sleep. The compact ensuite bathroom was adequately equipped and mostly worked OK. The beds were comfortable and linens clean. For the most part the staff we encountered were pleasant and helpful. There is Wifi around the “Homestead” with Telstra 4G phone/data service elsewhere across the resort. Guest laundry facilities are provided.

The not so good: the tented lodgings are somewhat utilitarian in appearance which imparts more of a mining camp look than that of a holiday resort. Depending upon how far your “tent” is from the “Homestead” you could be in for a long walk between dining/drinking and lodging. The drainage from our bathroom was leaking during our stay and may well have been leaking for some time because nothing was done to rectify it during our stay despite it being reported early on. We heard from other guests that they had similar problems. A few other aspects of the accomodation were also looking a bit the worse for wear.

Very disappointing, do not stay here if you are solo, a couple or family. The resort is entirely focused on bus tours and bigger groups. Our first night there were two bus tours and a private birthday party - not really consistent with the anticipated ambience of the remote location. Second night there were four bus tours. Contrary to what their website says, the only option for dinner was to join the bus tour buffet at $65 each. The Gorge and location is great, but recommend a day trip if you want to see these.

Very rude, unhelpful staff, barely acceptable food. We had stayed at several APT wilderness lodges, with three course restaurant quality meals and wonderful staff. El Questro has such a great reputation that we were expecting more of the same. This resort served up inedible overcooked food at one dinner - returned to kitchen - and the buffet offerings at breakfast and dinner were lacklustre with no variety, running out very early. Ran out of cow's milk, siting "remoteness". This had not been a problem at APT's venues, which were even more remote. The general vibe was that they just didn't care - so deal with it. Would not recommend this resort and will not be returning.

Restaurant was disgusting food, smorgasbord was cold and had been sitting quite a while. The next night my steak was so tough that most of our tour group did not eat it. We asked for just a plate of chips instead. Restaurant and bar staff the rudest and unwelcoming. I did not feel like a guest but a complete imposition to staff except the housekeeping staff were pleasant and lovely. Lovely accomodation but to feel like a holiday comes down to the way you’re treated and good food when travelling so far. You may be remote but no excuse for such a poor job.

For accommodation described as a 'tented cabin', I was expecting the accommodation to be basic, but sufficient & sealed from the wildlife.. It was not! On the first night we had over 12 frogs and one lizard come in through unsealed sections & light fixtures. One frog dropped on top of me in bed! I looked online & there were other vacant accommodation options at El Questro so I emailed El Questro photos & asked to be moved to sealed accommodation & advised that we would pay any price difference to be moved. After two emails I received no response agreeing to relocate us. The only response we received to 'address' the issues was a gardener came to our room who said in a patronising manner he had never seen frogs in the cabins during this season. I pointed out that one was still in the bathroom which we couldn't catch, & he caught it & let outside. He said that if there are more frogs we can just flush them down the toilet. It was not a solution as we literally spent hours catching frogs throughout the night. Our main concern was snakes following the frogs in via the gaps for an easy meal.

So my first issue was the fact the accommodation at the price was not sealed, & my second & main issue was El Questro's lack of sufficient response considering we were happy to pay to be moved. We were booked & paid to stay for four nights but ended up leaving after three nights as the frogs were relentless. Since we basically had little to no sleep throughout the nights, we were tired during the days & therefore didn't really enjoy our trip overall & were so pleased to leave & I was happy to pay any amount for accommodation elsewhere. Also FYI after speaking with other guests, we were not the only tent which had frogs inside.

Some other things to note about this accommodation which are not dealbreakers but good to know ahead of time, there is no fridge in the tent & you cannot lock the tent from the outside so you have to keep your valuables in your car. We were also not told upon checkin that if you want the room serviced you have to ask at reception - I only found this out when we were leaving. Not a big deal but would have been good to be advised at checkin.

I just want to note that a frog also jumped & stuck onto my leg in the outdoor restaurant which didn't bother me since we were outdoors - but I did have a massive issue with them dropping on me while in bed!

The new owners of El Questro might want to think about sealing their accommodation, or if not, then dropping the price by around $300! Never again will we stay at any El Questro property after their lack of customer service.

An oasis in the wilderness park.
The cabins are clean and modern. They are hot during the day, as you would expect, however the fan provides adequate relief from the heat. The bed and bathroom are a little bit small.
The pool is a welcoming addition to the facilities.
The staff are friendly, welcoming and have good knowledge of the area.
The outdooor bar, lounge and restaurant are all lovely, and provide a luxury tropical feel
The food is outstanding and the talk of all Kimberley travellers who have stayed here.
We had a Luxury Escapes 3 day package that was good value
I would highly recommend this resort.

Hi ColinO413, thank you for taking a few minutes to leave your comments about your stay at El Questro, it’s much appreciated. We’re happy to read you had a wonderful time and especially enjoyed Emma Gorge. It’s a great way to get back to nature but with all the perks of a hotel! The food this year has been exceptional thanks to our head chef who has created a delicious menu sourcing locally grown produce. We hope to have you over again soon. Kind Regards, the El Questro team.

If you are looking to book with these guys make sure you are 100% going to get there. They show 0 compassion to guests who have been affected by the pandemic and cant make it.
Our son tested positive the day before we were meant to fly to Kununurra. So we did the right thing and called and cancelled our accommodation only to be told that we were going to loose the entire amount of $466 as that's part of the T&C whereby they don't refund or offer credit.
No amount of pleading with the reservation desk on the grounds that we were a young family, hard working and the money lost is sizeable , made any difference. All we got was an indifferent , standardised apology with no remorse in taking our money and offering no service in return. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. We are trying to support the tourism industry here in WA and you just engaged in day light robbery! and you wonder why people choose to holiday elsewhere. Most places offer refund or credits ...oh but not you guys!!!
Travelers BEWARE!!!

We stayed at the Gorge. It was very hot at night as only a ceiling fan and also no fridge. We enjoyed the stay but I think I would try El Questro Station next time. El Questro and surrounds were easily accessible with 4wd which is a must. If you haven't factored in Lake Argyle, please do. 4 - 5 nights at El Questro will allow you to cover a lot which would enable a trip to Lake Argyle. We did 11 weeks on the road and the sunset cruise and infinity pool at Lake Argyle were a highlight!

Hello Travel Addict14 We unfortunately don't have capacity for a family of 5 in our Emma Gorge Safari cabins. It is a very cosy room for a family of 4. I can understand you would not want to split the family, it would however be better fit for 5 persons. We hope to see you here soon. Best wishes Lori Litwack

Hello, while I don't like to disagree however Emma Gorge for is considered to be quite challenging universally. I'm an experienced traveller in my 50s and did a trip to Kakadu a few years ago and some of those walks are really difficult so I have a basis of comparison. We did a tour of the Kimberley with Outback Spirit due to the difficulty of reaching some of the spots and also our time constraints. We had an absolutely fantastic trip. The three significant walks of trip (excluding the Bungle Bungles which was hot but no challenge) were Bell Gorge, Mitchell Falls and Emma Gorge. Bell Gorge was pretty easy and you were rewarded by the most sensational swim. The walk to Mitchell Falls isn't that difficult but you certainly have to take your time due to the heat and also there is lots of up and down tracks, climbing over rocks etc and I'd say I drank easily 2 litres of water or more and 3 swims along the way. Have to say it was the most spectacular walk I've ever done - despite the 39 degree heat. Of the 20 people on our tour which ranged in age from 50 - 70, half did the Mitchell Falls walk and only 8 did the Emma Gorge walk due to the tour guide's comment. He said that it was easily the most difficult of the three. Having been on the go non-stop for several days before we got to Emma Gorge and was feeling rather exhausted so I opted not to do it. Feedback from the people who went was that it was absolutely amazing and well worth it. So my advice would be to start early in the morning, make sure you do have really good walking shoes that won't get slippery if you walk on wet rocks. Apparently plenty of the walk is in shade which will help. The good thing about this walk is that if you get to a point where it's getting too much you can turn back. On the Mitchell Falls walk that wasn't an option as you walk all the way in and then (in our case get a helicopter out). Make sure you have plenty of water with you as well. I have no doubt you will enjoy the area, for us the trip to the Kimberley was the trip of a lifetime.
