Over the past 2 years I have travelled to Kununurra numerous times for work generally staying at one of the main hotels in town. Before my most recent visit my business colleague who lives in the Kimberley recommended I try staying here so I did and it was wonderful! I'm travelling back up north in February and I definitely plan on staying at Bougainvillea Lodge again. I have only ever travelled to the area on business but waking up each day with mango trees to my left, palms and a pool out in front and the Ord river to my right I felt as though I'd taken a sneaky week of work.

The Bed and Breakfast is only 5 minutes by car from the centre of town and much more private and comfortable than staying in a bigger hotel or resort with lots of rooms. The lodge has a nice big bathroom which includes a washing machine so you can do your own laundry and pack light, the bed was extremely comfortable and I had a desk that I could work on, although I tended to drag my laptop out onto the verandah whenever I could. The owner Judy Hughes stocks the fridge and pantry with all of the essentials and a few treats like salmon for breakfast and there is ample space for you to do your own shopping and cook meals to enjoy in the peace and quiet of the property.

On top of all of this the lodge really is great value, you should definitely try it no matter what your reason for travelling to the area. I'd only ask that you don't book when I'm going !

I have travelled all over the world and this is simply the best bed and breakfast I have ever stayed in. To wake up with the sound of the birds, the palm trees and the view of the river was just heavenly. This place soothes yours soul.

All this plus Judy - a most wonderful hostess.

Judy was just delightful and most helpful.
Immaculate B&B, Judy has thought of everything from her delicious breakfast to her lovely soaps and special gifts. A little touch of paradise overlooking the Ord just a short drive from Kununurra.

Over and above everything else is the fact you can walk 100m from your door across the grassed field to your own private stretch of the Ord River and catch barramundi without the exorbitant cost of private fishing lodge or heli-fishing.
The accommodation is spotless, spacious, comfortable and well-equipped for a relaxing stay.
Stunning views, beautiful garden and pool area. It's just a tranquil paradise with no need to go anywhere else.

The purple and white bougainvillea clearly mark the entrance to the property and a shaded drive leads to a secluded unit set in a tropical garden with views to the river. Put on insect spray to sit outside on the deck for evening drinks and nibbles!

The inclusion of a washing machine and line in the unit was a blessing, after walking in the Bungle Bungle Mountains.

The fridge was full of goodies for a self catered breakfast giving guests flexibility.

Judy is a gracious and helpful hostess and we appreciated the welcome drinks.

The location is blissful but one needs a car to get around.

I don't know how many places there are to stay in Kununurra... it doesn't matter though. My partner and I spent 5 nights here in serenity and bliss by the river. The bed and breakfast (B&B) is decked out with everything you need for a comfortable stay including cooking needs; fridge; spacious on suite bathroom (incl laundry) and the lovely host Judy seems to stock everything you could ever need.

The most charming quality of the B&B though, has to be it's ability to provide that "spoilt" feeling. As though the whole river is yours and at night the shooting stars are putting on a private show, you really can't experience this at a hotel in town and having traveled with my partner quite a bit, we both agree that this B&B has a charm unlike anything we've experienced before.

Do yourself a favor and check this place out. If you're not in the area, it's worth the trip for this place alone, even if only for a few days. You won't be disappointed.

The location is about 6 km out of town which would be a consideration if you did not have a car. We did so there was no issue!

It is a bit different to the usual B&B in that it is a fully self-contained ground floor single unit including laundry facilities located in a tropical setting. A prepared breakfast was not provided although a good range of food was which allowed us to prepare meals at times of our choosing which suited us perfectly. I think that this form of B&B has a lot going for it! :-)

Our host was friendly and helpful without being intrusive and offered the use of the facilities including a tennis court and pool. She has a good knowledge of the Kununurra area and offered helpful suggestions about the activities available in the area.

We visited during the Ord Valley Muster, a highlight of the Kununurra district year which has an impact on available accommodation. As a result, we needed to look further afield for somewhere to stay. In hindsight, had we known about Bougainvillea Lodge, I suspect that we would have stayed there as our first choice!

Comments about hotel facilities below are not relevant to this B&B.

Thank you very much for your very kind review. It was a pleasure having you both to stay and I hope you enjoyed your visit to Kununurra enough to include it in one of your future holiday itineraries. I also hope you enjoyed the Kimberley Moon Experience concert. Thank you once again. Cheers Judy

I have stayed at Bougainvillea Lodge B&B many times over the last 3 years for both business and pleasure. This piece of paradise offers views of the ranges and sits on the lower Ord River surrounded by palms, mango trees and a variety of bird life. The accommodation is faultless with everything you will need to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Judy is an amazing host and I highly recommend it as the best and only place to stay in Kununurra.

This has to be the nicest, best equipped B and B we have stayed at for some time and Judy the host is very welcoming. We arrived in the dark and woke up to wonderful surroundings and great breakfast provisions. Could easily use it as a base for a few days in Kununurra.

I spent two nights in Bougainvillea B&B in Kununurra, and felt absolutely spoilt. This 'granny flat' is completely self-contained, with washing-machine, oven and all the other things normally needed for living in a home. Plus swimming pool to use, and a delightful garden to share. The quietude except for the sounds of nature offers an amazing experience, as does the Lower Ord river next to the property with crocodiles and all.
The fridge held a small bottle of champers and a bottle of beer for me, plus chocolates for me to feel extra welcome.
I appreciated Judy's down to earth, welcoming and caring attitude.
The only thing that - in time- could be improved is offering guests the option of having a fresh breakfast and/or room service each day if they stay for more than 1 night (e.g. fresh milk, fruit and yoghurt). Also checking in with guests to see if they are happy and all is okay. That said, Judy has a lot happening for her at the moment so guests can accommodate for that... ;-)
