We had a four night stay in a garden room. We were very disappointed with a very small room with old and average furniture. One chair in the room. We regularly ran out of water in bathroom the toilet could take up to ten minutes to fill the cistern. When you had a shower the

Dear David and Linda, Thank you for your time and feedback. I wish to assist and address your concerns as it was very disheartening to see that so many issues occurred in a short span of time and repeatedly to the same good people. I am so sincerely sorry that a number of significant items contributed to your overall dissatisfaction with your stay. We unfortunately have some short staffing issues with the reservation team. I realise this does not help you, or us for that matter, but we try very hard to make up for it once we have contact directly with you. I trust that the team did look after all of your itineraries and requirements prior to arriving, I believe that we do excel at that, and making the connection in advance is a great introduction to the team and welcomes you before you even arrive. Your issues with the plumbing in your Homestead garden room are very embarrassing for us indeed. We have had a problem occur which has been difficult to rectify completely during the operating season. We have tackled the lack of water issue but as the bigger civil works could not be undertaken until we closed for the season, it has unfortunately caused problems on occasion, but certainly not an every day occurrence. We are literally completing these works as of this week as we have gone into seasonal closure of the resort. I am so sorry that it impacted on your stay, as it would, particularly at pivotal times when you wish to shower after a day out. I am sorry too that a second chair was not provided for your room, whilst it is not something we have spares of, I am sure we may have found another that would have done the trick, I do apologise that this was not followed up on. Generally the Garden Rooms are older and do need a face lift, we do realise that as well, and have been working with architects and the owners and project managers to undertake the upgrades and revive them to a higher standard. We strive to provide an incredible experience in every other way, as the room is a small part of the whole Homestead immersive experience, and whilst the Garden Rooms do not have all of the accouterments of the Retreats, the service and experiences remain the same for all. I do understand that not having a choice menu doesn’t suit about 5% of our guests. Most do really love not having to make choices and enjoy the surprise and delight each day when they hear the menu. We do stress on arrival that we are happy to accommodate any dietary requirements and preferences and always hope that we can gain insight into what you like in order to serve you better. It was a rare occasion that Chef Alan was off property and for that length of time. I am very sad to hear that his stand in did not live up to the high standards that Alan follows as it was such a rare occurrence for anyone else to be in charge, but very unavoidable. I do believe though that the wine pairings are meant to enhance the meal, and again, all the guests certainly have the opportunity to order from an extensive complimentary list. We are always happy to pour any selection for individuals. Those who purchase wine only do so as they really wish to have a special bottle, they are in no way forced to do so, it is just their preference and predilection for more expensive wine. Our complimentary inclusive list is highly regarded and the selections are all of a high quality and carefully selected for the Homestead by leading wine writer Jeremy Oliver. The beauty of our remoteness and location is that we are in fact a wild and rugged environment. Whilst we do maintain our roads, we do not try to enhance our 4WD tracks, as that is why they exist, to offer adventure to those wishing to 4 wheel drive. The main road in is graded continually as we employ 1 person whose sole purpose is to grade the driveway. It does take a beating and needs constant grading, but overall it is in quite good condition. How unfortunate and scary it was when a snake made its way into a guests' room, fortunately it was a harmless tree snake which is what we see most often at The Homestead. It happens occasionally that snakes will get in when a door is open for a moment. We obviously try to prevent this as much as possible but it can happen. I think there may be a misunderstanding, there is always someone on site at Homestead overnight. As managers, if we are offsite, another member of staff stays over. David and Linda, thank you for bringing these details forward. The majority of issues which are fortunately being rectified now and much more in the near future. I was pleased that overall the Homestead staff were helpful and looked after you. We do usually receive such tremendously good feedback and commentary, the Homestead guests adore the experience and our staff. As I said, it is disheartening to have had it all go so very wrong for the two of you. I hope that you will trust that this commentary is sincere as we have long been held in high regard and only strive to ensure that we maintain our standards and position. Whilst there is a bit of work to do on older room, overall the Homestead is still a world class experience much loved by our guests. Warmest wishes, Lori Litwack

We were lucky enough to spend a few days in A Cliffside Villa, which is sensational accommodation set right on the edge of The Chamberlain Gorge. The view of the gorge from the villa is beautiful and private. So private that the batch is set on the deck overlooking the gorge.

Dear Beverley G, Thank you ever so much for your words regarding your recent stay with us. Our three Cliffside villas are indeed private, spectacularly located and expertly crafted from local resources. It appears you made the most of the privacy by utilising the outdoor bath – a feature of the villas that receives plenty of praise! We all aim to provide each of our guests with a truly personal and unique experience dependent on their needs and I am pleased to see that the team looked after you so well. Our rangers thrive in the landscape and their passion and enthusiasm to show our guests this timeless part of Australia is wonderful to see. When the time comes for you to return to your home in the heart of the inspiring East Kimberley, we remain at your service. Warm regards, David Meikle

Dear CharlesA, It was a delight to be able to host in the inspiring heart of the East Kimberley. The Chamberlain suite truly does offer the most amazing views of the escarpments, river and provides plenty of opportunity for bird spotting, relaxing and dining. We enjoyed being able to tailor your stay to meet your needs and it pleases us that you were so well looked after in the wilderness by the marvellous Ranger team, particularly your full day adventure with Hayley. Chef and his team work very hard to ensure that our guests are well catered for and it appears they have once again succeeded. We trust that you enjoyed your onward journey to meet your family and if you find yourself drawn back to The Kimberley, we will be honoured to host you again. All the very best, David Meikle

Dear Deepa B, Thank you for taking the time to pen a few words of your recent visit with us – and such fine words indeed! It was a pleasure being able to host you on your quick visit to the East Kimberley and it appears that our rangers certainly let you experience the magic in your own way. Our chef and his team work very hard indeed to ensure that each and every dish is a delight showcasing the best of local and Western Australia products and our front of house team truly are gifted in their ability to pamper and entertain. May I speak on behalf the entire team and say the next time you make the trip to Australia, we look forward to welcoming you again and showcasing even more of this most inspiring of locations. Best regards, David Meikle

My wife and I stayed at El Questro Homestead in a Clifftop suite for 3 nights in May and had a great time. The room was magnificent only surpassed by the view and the amenities fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here but if I had two criticisms it would be the fixed menu

Dear paulcardio, Thank you for taking the time to offer your review of El Questro Homestead via TripAdvisor. It is pleasing to see that you thoroughly enjoyed your experience with us however we are naturally disappointed that a few issues have marred your otherwise amazing time in the heart of the East Kimberley region. We do encourage The Homestead to be your home whilst you are with us. We emphasise and reiterate this throughout the stay and are regularly checking in with our guests to ensure that what they are receiving in terms of food, service and adventure, is what they expect. It is disappointing that you did not feel comfortable raising your concerns whilst you were with us so that we were better able to look after your needs. Normally, no question or suggestion is dismissed, so we would have been more than willing to provide what was desired. The majority of feedback offered via this forum (and indeed others) shows that we take immense pride in being able to tailor each guest’s stay to their wants and desires. It appears we have missed the mark for you on this occasion which is naturally disappointing for us both and for this I do apologise. We have a number of spectacular dining locations located on the edge of the Chamberlain River that offer some stunning night time views and a real sense of privacy and intimacy. We enquire during the day whether you would like to enjoy your dinner at one of these or with the communal table on the main veranda – the choice is indeed yours. Again, it is disappointing to read that you felt like we were offering you this for our convenience as for many it is one of the highlights of their stay. When you were with us during May, the evening temperatures were slightly cooler than average however we have braziers & blankets to aid those who are feeling chilled. It is indeed a shame that your dining experience was marred by our set menus with limited choice, as Chef and his team work tirelessly to ensure that each meal is a culinary delight showcasing the best local and seasonal produce. We must agree with you, paulcardio, that fixed menu dining is not to everyone’s liking however our lunch time offerings are varied, fresh and light and, as you will see from our reviews over the years, is welcomed with gusto from the majority of our guests. As already mentioned, if this was an issue for you and was raised whilst you were with us, we could have worked together to find a solution that was to your liking. We feel honoured to be able to showcase the very best of what this incredible landscape offers and our location is indeed spectacular. Rest assured that we take very seriously the role that we have in ensuring that your time here with us is a time you will remember fondly for years to come. We believe that our inclusive room rate which includes all dining, selected beverages, guided experiences and adventures in the wilderness, and the pampering of our gifted team represents true value for money. It appears that your time with us was not as you expected and for that we must apologise, we hope however that it does not influence your overall impression of the magnificent East Kimberley region as there are many ways to experience the variety on offer in this outstanding area. All the very best in your future travels. Warm Regards, David Meikle Homestead Operations Manager

Dear Brian, It is pleasing to see that you wish to visit this most amazing part of Australia. End of April is probably one of the most beautiful times. It may have a tiny chance of rain, but usually after Anzac day, the wet season is mostly over. It is the greenest, lushest time and the benefits of the wet season are the flowing waterfalls. El Questro itself needs several days as there is so much to do, gorge walks, thermal springs, boat cruise, air tours to waterfalls and Bungle Bungles, fishing tours and 4 wheel driving tracks. I would allow 4 to 5 days. In Kununurra there is almost as much to do there too. The Ord River Cruise and Lake Argyle cruise are highlights as is the natural attractions like Mirima Park, Parry's Lagoon and Margu Billabong and the Grotto. Please contact our team through our website, they would be more than happy to help with an itinerary for your stay. I hope we get to welcome you to El Questro.

Dear Julie, The Homestead is definitely worth a visit and we hope to see you here on day. Unfortunately we do not conduct art tours at this time whilst we are in negotiations with the Traditional Owners of the land. We hope to see this come to fruition in the next year or so and that may open up access to cultural sites on El Questro. I hope that this doesn't deter you from visiting. Warm regards, Lori Litwack

Hello, I am the General Manager of El Questro and certainly know of Chris and Nalia. Unfortunately they only did the one year with El Questro and I have lost track of where they are now. We do have a fantastic team at the Homestead, Chef Alan Groom has been there for 12 seasons now and our Homestead Manager Kate is also a favourite of Homestead guests. Both of them, along with a brilliant team, are more than adept at providing you with the pampering and personalised service that you crave. Since you last visited, the rooms overhanging the gorge have been upgraded with fabulous bath tubs and showers on the verandah. We also have added the Cliff Side Retreats which are incredibly beautiful and situated looking into the heart of the Chamberlain Gorge. We hope that you will consider a visit this year. Warm regards, Lori Litwack
