Detailed Reviews
On what has now become our yearly summer getaway, we always choose to stay here because we love the amenities, the location, the great service and of course those views!! As a group of friends we stay in a 2 bedroom apartment and it's great value for money. The daily housekeeping is fantastic and there's always fresh bottled water in the fridge. The open plan living and dining is super roomy and the kitchen has everything we need. Beds are wonderfully comfortable too.
The balcony views are glorious - really such a lovely spot. Staff are super helpful and polite.
Each time we organise our annual trip we look around at other accommodation options but nothing beats McCracken Country Club!

An enjoyable stay in a spacious room (Superior Suite) provided comfort and the kitchenette provided capacity to cater for ourselves when we choose to eat in. Bistro offers 2 for 1 Tuesday menu which is a generous offering for families Pool and golf facilities on site means you don't have to leave the property for activities. Close access to VH and Port Elliot make this an ideal spot for a short or longer break.

Beautiful views, quiet area and the resort offered loads of convenience with the bistro, bottle-o, ammenities and location. Rooms are slightly outdated, could use some TLC, but we really enjoyed our stay. Mostly the staff were great, restaurant food average and cleanliness slightly lacking due to convid-19 I assume, which also means booking time slots for the pool area which was not always followed by some but there didn’t seem to be much supervision on this. The pool itself was warm and we spent loads of time there. I imagine without restrictions and full staffing back this would be an amazing place to stay. I do wish the restaurant offered take away to rooms on plates used for room service rather than styrofoam containers but we are all learning. Big thanks to the young fella at reception and the lovely house keeping lady who was a huge help to us on a couple of occasions during our stay.

Location is lovely and staff are friendly. Pool clean and warm. Clean And air con room.
Lots of details slipped from our last visit. Like.. No room service but no mention of this until on site. Dinner was awful store bought gnocchi without any pesto, swamped with peas. Shoestring fries cold and miserable. Tiny tiny brownie overheated that it melted container therefore contaminating it. No plates or silverware, just containers and wooden cutlery.
Bar fridge used to stock local milk, now has tiny tetra pack.
Bath faucet broken away from tiles. Blinds falling off (ruining block out effect). King bed, two king singles together, not nice to cuddle with your partner.
Room booking stated balcony spa room on either level 2 or 3, but we were put on ground floor, no balcony and shared outdoor space with 2 other rooms (zero privacy).
Charged $60 for 2 adults and under 1 year old for breakfast (but she clearly can't eat solids!). Online booking stated buffet breakfast, only when I received confirmation email was I told it would be a al carte. No vegan option. Prices well under what we paid, had to ask not to be charged for our drinks as a result.
We just wanted a lovely night of swimming, room service and a buffet breakfast in a room with a balcony and view. Which is what is what was described online, I booked and paid for and then we got none of it.....
Not impressed

I stayed at the McCracken Country Club on the 21.3.20 for one night when attending a wedding in the area. When departing I unfortunately (my mistake) left a valuable item behind.
It was reported to the hotel as soon as I noticed it was missing. The hotel got back to me advising they’d investigate. I then had to follow them up again because I received no further correspondence. It turned out nothing had been done. The hotel General Manager has since come back and is claiming my item (GHD Hair straightener, retailing at $285) was not found by their staff (well not logged anyway) and there’s nothing more he can do.
I responded thanking him for his trouble and politely asked him to please conduct a more thorough check of the room and with the staff who cleaned it after our stay. As i had triple checked our bags, my car, etc. and definitely did not bring it home. Something like that doesn’t just vanish into thin air?!
First the GM responded to my request, advising that if the item was found the cleaning staff may have “thought it was hotel property and placed it in the vanity” and accused guests staying after us of taking it, but it has since come to light that they closed their doors to guests (due to COVID-19) the Monday following my stay and therefore that is impossible, as no one stayed after us.
Now they are suggesting that I’m falsely blaming them and that It is likely that I never brought the item to the hotel in the first place or otherwise the friends who shared the room with us (two bedroom suite) of taking it 😡
Now I know it was my stupid mistake, leaving it behind, I’m aware of that. I’m clearly not going to get the item back as it’s “disappeared”. I have the serial number so I’ll be keeping an eye out on gumtree and Facebook Marketplace.
I am appalled by the service I’ve received, there was no offer to replace the item, and really disappointed with the lack of concern this venue have for their customers and their belongings. Them playing the blame game, accusing everyone other than their staff has REALLY pissed me off too! I will not be staying at this venue again nor will I recommend it to anyone.
If you leave something of value behind at this venue, I hope it’s insured because you won’t be getting it back!

Responded 24 May 2020
Dear Jess, In terms of playing the blame game I had simply asked if you had checked with you room mate that they hadn't picked it up, and i'd only done so after twice having you accuse my team of theft. I informed you also that we did not close our doors at any stage and that the room in which you stayed was occupied twice in the following week after you departed. I said it was a possibility that the item was left in the room by the cleaners and the next guest may have taken it, as I have also seen this situation happen before and the room had already been occupied by the time you reported it missing to us. I did not suggest you were falsely blaming us nor that you didn't bring the straighteners, I simply told you of an instance where our staff were accused of theft of items which a guests later remembered that they hadn't brought with them. I was sharing my experience that many are quick to jump and accuse hotel staff erroneously. My comments were not meant to upset you, and I really am sorry that you have lost your straighteners. My comments to you were more so to assist in the investigation of missing the item, however we cannot simply offer to replace every item which we are told was left behind. Best wishes for your future travels, Stuart

We had chosen the McCracken Country Club due to its nice location and great reputation. From arrival we felt extremely welcome. The receptionist explained everything they were doing regarding cleaning for COVID safety, made us aware that we would need to make a booking for the restaurant, and then gave good directions to our room, as it was our first time stayingat the hotel.
When we got into the room we were greeted with a beautiful view of the golf course. The room was spotlessly clean and had the heaters on waiting for us, which was nice considering it was a cold day.
We had a quiet and comfortable sleep (enough so we missed breakfast) but called reception and they were happy to extend check out an extra hour for us.
Definitely a great 5 star stay and have already discussed doing it again in a few months.

Realise things are still weird after covid, but disappointed our booking was lost on the system, and that we then weren’t informed that housekeeping was on request only (I only found this out on check out - it should have apparently been advised in a welcome letter we did not see). Given how disappointed I was with this situation, I filled out the feedback form in the room and mentioned this as I was leaving. I was told that someone should be in touch, but have so far heard nothing (a week after checking out).
The property was in a good location to use as a base for venturing out and checking all the spots in the Victor/Goolwa area. We thoroughly enjoyed the spa in the room, which is part of the reason we stayed here.
The room had a balcony which overlooked a duck pond, which was a pretty nice view. However, this meant that we were kept awake at night by the frogs and crickets that lived there. We were also woken in the morning by noisy kids in the neighbouring room.
Part of our package was a voucher to be used at either the bottle shop which did not stay open its advertised hours or the restaurant which served up food we would describe as average at best.
It is a little frustrating, we understand that mistakes are made, it is just extremely disappointing that a simple mistake with our booking ended up having such a large impact on our experience, and the fact that no effort seems to have been made to make things right also furthers the disappointment.

Dear Kizzdawg, Thanks for the feedback, my apologies that you received no reply to your comment form, it was not received. I would note that we send a pre arrival email to all guests including COVID changes we've made which does include information about the reduced housekeeping service. Our reception team should also be communicating this upon arrival, and if this was missed i apologise for that error. I do hope that this does not deter you from staying with us again should your travels bring you back to the Fleurieu Peninsula. Best Regards, Stuart Riddell - General Manager

We stayed a friday night in September 2020 and due to COVID plus off season we got a very low rate, normally in high season it would have been $200 per night for the Resort spa room with King bed.
The room was spacious, very clean and we liked the large bathroom and shower.
Located close to a coles it was really handy, good carpark. Our room overlooked the carpark but it was quite so didn't bother us. We liked that the room had both ceiling fan and airconditioner.
The king size bed was two beds pushed together, which was fine but we both found the mattress very hard and the pillows too high so neither of us slept well. That's our personal problem but for the full price, we might have been less happy. The rooms are dated but did what we needed them to do. The staff were friendly and helpful. We'd stay again potentially depending on price due to location and space but the bed gives us pause.

Service was fantastic. Room was great value for money however windows were difficult to see through as they obviously hadn’t cleaned it in a while, very dirty and full of old dusty spider webs on the inside. We also had very damp toilet paper soon to realise the sink was leaking a lot underneath making everything wet. We let staff know and they said they would fix it but it was not and kept leaking out the vanity and onto the floor making it very slippery. After someone came to do the room it was left opened for anybody to come in and possibly take personal belongings. Main restaurant was closed and bistro food was great however they ran out of steak the first night. Very limited options of meals and unable to make any changes to certian items like pasta as it is already pre-made all together and not made as it’s ordered. I would have thought given the main restaurant was closed there would have been a better focus on bistro and providing more options for customers.
Beautiful area to stay.

We are not golfers but chose the McCracken Country Club as it represented great value and was located in the area we wanted to stay. Our room was large and comfortable with a king size bed, dining table and chairs and a desk. Our room was located at the front of the complex and was on the same floor as reception, so no steps. The complex is older style but our room was very clean and the bathroom was updated. We had dinner at the on site bistro (pub style food and order and pay at the counter) and also took advantage of the breakfast buffet deal (available from reception at check in). Great place fir an overnight stay.

Dear neece1,
Thanks for your question on this forum and it was great to see some positive responses from fellow travellers. As General Manager I have been on the resort for almost 18 months and I am confident you will have seen some marked improvements since your last stay, and If you require any assistance with your reservations, please do reach out to me directly at the resort.
Best Regards,
Stuart Riddell - General Manager
There is an electric kettle and sachets of both decaf and normal coffee granules and tea bags, 3 varieties, with fresh milk in the fridge. There are no toasters in the rooms in the resort, however if you stay in the apartment block, the studios and two bedroom apartments there have a toaster and microwave in the rooms. There are some rooms in the resort that have a small kitchenette, with electric fry-pans as well. I hope you enjoy your stay.
I really don't know as we had no need for a cot or small bed.
However the staff were very obliging and I am confident they would provide a cot if requested well in advance.
