We booked two nights here as a "spa retreat". It was meant to be a nice studio rm with spa bath, brekky, wine and choccies. When we got there the room was TINY, no view - we were stuck in a seperate section down the bottom, the spa bath was also TINY (about the same size as a normal shower cubicle, one person could barely even fit in there!)and no wine or choccies. When we enquired the managers were rude and didn't care. It ended up being ok but just be careful if you stay here that you actually get what you pay for. For the money I would say go elsewhere.

We stayed here for 3days and on our 2nd nite we found ourselves waking up to a evacuation message coming through the room at 2.30 in the morning most people evacuated out to the front entrance waiting for instructions and waiting there was no staff members to assist and no one to check the head count and to make sure that every one was out of the units the resort manager turned up about 15 minutes later in his car he didn't no what was going on and was running around like a headless chook giving out no information at all and when the alarm was turned off everyone just went back to their unit still not knowing what was going on and then the fire brigade arrived to check out a unit so we presumed it was a fire people were very angry and upset that no communication was Avaliable and no help on hand at all as we are by the beach it may have been a tidal wave as we have been through a couple of disasters similar to this we are very concerned with the slap happy attitude of this resort we approach the girls in the office one thought it was a great joke haha and the other wouldnt have a clue and said she didn't no as she wasn't here at that time but claimed to be the resort manger as well but she also said they didn't have to give out any information at the time of the evacuation and they weren't fire officers and couldn't say if there was a fire or not
We find this a very serious problem because there are a lot of people here and resort staff with no clue what to do in an emergency situation and if a real disaster happens patrons would be in big trouble I don't feel safe here hence never coming back u no a disaster can happen anytime any place we no it's happened to us
Please read this it's scary but true

The place closes at 5 ON THE DOT. Don't bother driving in at 5 or even a minute too. Amber informed me upon entering reception at 5pm that they had closed, she had been working 9 hours and could not help me because she had logged out. SERIOUSLY. I am glad I don't own a unit at this complex under management. When I asked her to call the manager, she refused, when I asked for the managers name, she advised it was confidential. I have never EVER had such disgusting service and poor attitude in any establishment EVER. I did manage to check in at the point up the road, who also close at 5 pm but were happy to check me in at 5.30. So go there.

This was our first trip to Coolum which I must say is a fantastic place. However don't stay at this "beach retreat".

We looked at the photos and decided we were here for one night so let's give this place a try.

To be blunt - the rooms are 2 star at best. They are dirty (when we got to our room there was a dirty cleaning cloth on the bed) they are mouldy and rusting and the tiles need a damn good clean.

I have uploaded some photos for you to look at.

I don't have a lot more to say than this is not a good place to stay. Yes the pool is lovely, it is close to the beach, and the restaurant next door does great cocktails and food - but the "resort" is well below what I would ever recommend to anyone.

There are several other options in Coolum so I would look around and give this place a very, VERY big miss. Check out the photos from our room.

I have stayed at The Beach Retreat numerous times over the last ten or so years and have found the reception staff and management to be welcoming, courteous and respectful.

However under the new management the treatment of guests is appalling.

I agree with the below comments about the officious reception staff.

Taking a $200 bond for a one night prepaid stay is ridiculous. Other places take the credit card number as a guarantee against further charges which a guest may incur. The way this place does it is totally insulting.

That wasn't the worst bit. Upon check-in they demanded photo ID. This is not standard practice in this country and when I questioned it they said I needed to "prove who I was" (absolutely not standard practice at any accommodation house I have stayed in in Australia). I advised I had no photo ID as I book in my married name and all my ID is in my former name for professional purposes. They continued to argue and made it worse by saying I could have "found the confirmation in the street". I wasn't allowed to check in until I produced my husband's driving licence to confirm the name on the booking. The licence was photocopied so in addition to his name and address they now have his date of birth. This contravenes privacy legislation as there is no reason for them to collect his date of birth as part of the transaction in renting a room.

In addition the place is tired and on checking in I noticed there was only one wine glass provided. This only added to my stress in wondering if they would attempt to take the cost of the missing glass from my $200 bond as stated on the warnings handed out with the keys.

I would recommend never staying at this establishment until the new management learn the basics of how to treat a guest.

This resort bears little or no resemblance to the internet site.
It is the only resort we have stayed at where if you run out of toilet paper you have to pay for more.

Kitchens are a joke and the crockery and utensils old and chipped, The management are extremley unhepful. verging on rude.

There are warnings in the rooms stating if you don't do the dishes when you leave you will be charged extra. Not exactly a relaxing place to stay

Not a great experience at all here. Firstly there was no parking at all even though it was included in the cost. We had to park in the street down the road and walk up. Secondly our room 37a was directly above a public venue with a party and live (very bad band) playing so loud it was unbearable. Upon ringingg the after hours number to try and get a different room we were told by the woman who answered the phone that she couldn’t help us at all and the hotel had nothing to do with the facilities underneath us. When we told her we couldn’t sleep and wanted a refund to find somewhere else to stay she told us the manager said there would be no refund. Very surprised with the rudeness, lack of interest or consideration and the ‘I don’t care attitude’. she was not the slightest bit interested in coming up with any solution at all. The view was good but it stopped there. The room left a lot to be desired. Do yourself a favor, avoid this hotel and do not stay here, there are plenty of much nicer places with better service, people who care about their customers and cleaner locations to stay than this on the Sunshine Coast. The room was grubby, old, tired and smelt musty as well, with mound on the curtains and blinds. Very disappointed.

What was wrong with the room everything,
Showe/spa difficult to get into scum around taps mould around window,
Aircon shutters broken off, room had a stale dirty odour, 1/8 inch dust& fluff on every skirting board, ceiling fan wires exposed
The studio room 31B was tiny the glass sliding door onto balcony was difficult to lock & did not have a screen door.
Overall an outdated dirty motel and overpriced false advertising on the website
Complained to receptionist who did not understand the point of my complaint & said that she was sorry i felt like that. All i felt was disapppinted because the room was, what it was, A DUMP!!!!

I stayed here with my husband and young baby in early Feb 2010. We stayed in a one bedroom ocean front room for $175/night.

The room was dirty with ants all over the kitchen bench, something which were particularly sensitive to given that we have a very young baby which we didn't want to disease with ants! The paint was peeling off the ducted airconditioning vents, falling on to the carpet and the bed, and then my baby was eating it off the floor. The spa was built in with the shower and you practically needed a ladder to get in and out of it. It was a negligence action waiting to happen because the bath mat provided was simply a towel and slippery when exiting the shower. The coffee table had a big burn mark on it. The water jug provided was all stained with something yellow, and there was no way I would have drunk water out of it. The bathroom (and the whole unit) wasn't very clean, and there was mould and rust in the bathroom. The towels provided were wafer thin and there were only 2 provided, no toiletries, and a tiny sachet of dishwashing liquid.

I also didn't believe that the bed was actually a queen size bed, it was more of a double size. We got very little sleep and even my husband woke up and said 'let's go home, I don't want to stay here another night'.

The final straw was when we discovered blood stains on the curtains ... how revolting is that.

I went and complained to management and they offered me another room. It also didn't seem very clean to me (particularly with a baby crawling around all over the floor) although the bed was bigger. The whole complex seemed to be under-maintained and needed a good pest spray, there were ants and bugs everyone on the exterior.

On the positive side (not that there were many), the pool is quite nice and the location is good across the road from the beach (over the road).

We were given a refund for our second night and came home. It ruined my husband's birthday weekend. The management were a little indifferent and said that this was the first time they had a complaint, and didn't seem interested in coming up to the room so that I could show them the blood stain (wouldn't this be something that horrified you as a hotel manager?), the ants or the paint peeling off the roof into my baby's mouth or my mouth as I was sleeping.

I would never stay here again, particularly for the price which is about the same as a 4.5 star hotel.

We looked at a room at Elements at Coolum and for about the same price, it was much much much nicer and we would choose to stay here on returning to Coolum.
