Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
Great brand new toilet & shower block. Plenty of room with fire pits for campers and caravans. Multiple sightings of a massive saltie hovering around the boat ramp and possibly coming up the bank to investigate the fish-cleaning station. Be careful launching and keep your kids well clear of the water!

Fantastic Campgrounds - an oasis in the bush. There is plenty of space to camp. Great spot, clean facilities and the other campers very friendly.
Good little boat ramp near camp. The boys had a great time fishing in Roper River- catching Blue Claw and Barra.

Munbililla Campground is better known as Tomato Island. It sits beside the Roper River and useful facilities include boat ramp and fish cleaning. Within half a day’s drive of Katherine, this is an excellent destination within Limmen National Park. Originally popular with Vietnam vets as a dry season base, this campground was substantially upgraded in 2013. It now offers 50+ non-powered grassed sites suitable for caravans and tent camping, with the added bonus of free gas BBQs, hot showers, laundry and rubbish collection. I found it to be well tended and friendly, with the unexpected bonus of mobile phone coverage.

This is such a brilliant camp site with a great guy running it called Lewie. We had hoped to stay at Ropers Bar but pulled in there to find it desolate and deserted. We set off down the road hoping to stay at Tomato Island which according to our map was a little camp site with loos only. What a lovely surprise as we turned around a corner to see Munbililla. We drove in around and were met by Lewie, what a warm welcome and a lovely chap! This camp site has only been open since April, so we had lovely showers and loos and camp kitchen. Lewie had instigated an early evening get together where everyone takes a drink and chair and has a catch up on the days events. This is a brilliant place to stop on the Savannah Way, we had come from Katherine that day.

After staying at Butterfly Springs Campground (Limmen NP) for 4 days with the only luxury of drop toilets, Munbililla Campground (Tomato Island) was a wonderful surprise. At $6.60 per person per night, the campground offers great facilities. The amenities block is spacious, modern and spotlessly clean. The hot showers were hot with great water pressure! Lots of bins are supplied for rubbish and recycling, which was great as there is nowhere in the NP to dispose of rubbish other than here. A boat ramp to the Roper River is conveniently located, as is a fish cleaning station with running water and its own dedicated rubbish bin. The biggest surprise was the Telstra mobile phone coverage - full 4G coverage was great. We were spoilt for choice of campsites as it wasn't very busy, however from what I've heard from others, it can be very busy due to being the only campground in Limmen NP with showers and facilities. Would certainly recommend to others.

Wow, what a surprise. This is a very modern campsite that has been provided by the parks board. There is plenty of room for caravans and tents too. The ablution block is fantastic... and there is plenty of hot water for showers.

Wonderful camp ground. Trees, the Roper river, birds, sunset and the best ablution block ever. So clean, spacious and plenty of showers and toilets. Best water pressure we had all trip Rubbish bins aplenty. This place is about 250 from Mataranka and as Roper Bar no longer operates, it is seriously in the middle of nowhere. We had a great night there even though a walk to the river to shine the torch looking for crocs proved fruitless that night, the Roper has plenty. Great Barra from here too. If you are a fisherman, I can think of no better place to camp. And, if you are not a fisherman it is still one of the cleanest and prettiest camp sites I have been to.
