Arcadia Lodge is an historic (c 1902) house with magnificent views of one of the most beautiful bays in New Zealand's Bay of Islands. The style of the lodge is simple and uncluttered, the atmosphere relaxed, the breakfasts healthy and made fresh using local ingredients. Five rooms, four en-suite, one with private, non-sharing bathroom. The large front deck looks out onto the bay, perfect for breakfast or a wine at the end of the day.

Acacia Lodge in Russell was the starting point for our "gap month" in New Zealand - and what a place to start. Greg and Peter certainly set the bar high! The setting overlooking a tranquil bay and picturesque gardens makes this a very special place, with generous hospitality and

Wow "The Best Breakfast in NZ Award". Thanks for rating Arcadia so well and we are just pleased you had a great time with us. We think Arcadia is much more than your average B&B stay that serve warmed croissants and the fact we live in a separate house Arcadia feels more like a Historic Small Hotel type lodging. Thanks for the great review and sharing your views with other travellers.

Hi Lindley and Don, just spotted your booking for next summer - welcome back to Russell. Off the top of my head I know the time line back 3 owners ago which is only to the 80s but if you let me know your grandparents' name I can find out more. Going back from us the owners names were Carlsson, before them Heays & Bosanquet, before them Shatwell (his name but not sure if his wife had the same name) but they ran it as a very successful back packers. Lots of people in town would be able to give me the info if I can give the name. Otherwise I need to dig out the title deeds. Cheers, David
