A great pub to stop for lunch. Not the original hotel, however. Food service is good and a great place to sit and share a meal on the verandah, overlooking the water, watching the passers by. We caught the ferry across from Paihia then strolled along the water's edge before stopping for lunch.

We really enjoyed our dinner, its such an amazing setting right on Russell waterfront. The food was delicious. We waited in the bar for our table and the barman was a character. Our waiter was friendly. Overall we had a great experience and I would definitely go again when we are next in Russell.

Hotel is a charming building with wonderful views over the Bay. We ate dinner in the hotel and the food was good but the service was a bit chaotic. Breakfast was disappointing - basically only tea, coffee and toast. Some cereals but nothing for gluten free. They offered to toast some gluten free food but in the same toaster used...

We had high hopes for our 2 night stay at the 'Duke' and sadly we were very disappointed. We were met by the receptionist who appeared indifferent to our presence. We asked if we could have Christmas dinner in the restaurant and he told us it was for house guests only. We explained that we wanted to stay longer than...

A job to know where to start really it was that bad but here are the high lights:- Lost booking Waited 20 minutes to take order Wrong drinks arrived Food nearly inedible, in fact the cockles were - simply a bowl of salt (well it tasted that way) Waiter showed no concern that virtually nothing was touched on the plates...

Spending some time in Russell in the glorious Bay of Islands the Duke of Marlborough Hotel (not to be confused with the Tavern) is a spectacular venue for lunch, dinner or even a wedding reception. The food, service, beer and wine list are outstanding. This hotel has it all. Spectacular sunsets overlooking the Bay of Islands, extensive wine and beer...

The Duke was a wonderfully peaceful place to recover from our journey from UK and the three days we spent there set us up for our five weeks in NZ. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent every night. The Duke is the ideal base from which to explore Russell and the surrounding area with the ferries...

We did have a few drinks after our cruise on the R. Tucker Thompson and decided to come back the next day for lunch. We were not disappointed. We were offered a table either inside or on the verandah which is protected by drop down clear blinds. We shared the steamed cockles with saffron and mustard. Excellent. Main course was...
