We three couples have just had a wonderful weekend staying at Orongo Lodge. Chris and Michael were the perfect hosts feeding us with locally sourced food and beverages in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere- beautiful gardens with classical music playing in the background. Croquet and Pinot Gris make a great combination! Highly recommended.

We stayed here for three nights and couldn't fault anything. We had a ground floor room with two decks. The room was immaculate, Michael and Chris were the perfect hosts and the garden and wildlife within fascinating. Breakfast was a delight. Thank you so much.

Thank you Judith and Harry. it was a pleasure to look after you; I was pleased you enjoyed the Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc! Thank you so much also for the kind comments in the guest book.Have a lovely spring - we are just getting the big fireplace ready for winter and picking the last of the summer fruit for our weekend guest breakfasts. Best wishes from Michael & Chris.

The Orongo Homestead is an elegant but comfortable slice of paradise close to the historic community and tourist amenities of Russell. We stayed in the upstairs suite and enjoyed looking out over the trees and pond. The suite is spacious and light with a small table & chairs at which we enjoyed our beautifully made and presented breakfast each morning, serenaded by birdsong and refreshed by light breezes. The Homestead also has a huge lawn and a living room area in the main house available for guests’ use. Be sure to read Michael’s entertaining description of the duck pond in the guest book!

Thank you Katharine, we are delighted that you and Tom enjoyed the peace, and that our little town was also a hit! Late summer is lovely here but the last figs have fallen (into my apron!) and today's descent to 10 degrees has us piling up firewood for the long weekend fireside lunches that winter guests love. Parasailing, surfing, yachting and hiking may be on hold, but the sea and earth are still beautifully warm so the snorkels and swim fins are not quite stowed yet. You were charming guests.

We booked this B&B on the last leg of our two week New Zealand trip. It was a bit pricey but booked it based on TripAdvisor reviews. We were disappointed from the minute we drove up to the place to the minute we left after a two night stay. The grounds are badly in need of TLC; the guest lounge is dated; and the breakfast left a lot to be desired. On a positive note, the bedding was quite comfortable and the hosts were gracious. Overall the place just gave me the creeps the entire time we were there. I would not recommend staying here.

Dear Lissa, We are genuinely sorry you were disappointed and did not feel the same as other Trip Advisor guests at our historic Homestead. Your visit was at the end of winter and, with our organic focus, there is only so much of nature that we can keep under control at that time of year in a sub-tropical climate. Since then we have added The Wine Room and a new conversation corner in the formal lounge which you might have enjoyed. The guests immediately following your visit wrote "beautiful property with excellent services". We are pleased you reached your Texas home safely.

Michael & Chris are perfect hosts & go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. The beds & pillows are so comfortable with sheets that are a blend of cotton & wool & surprising in winter, no need for an electric blanket! Underfloor heating of the floor tiles, insulated ceilings & walls made the room so cosy. The breakfast basket of goodies that Michael brought to out room was gorgeous with warm homemade bread, jam, honey, peanut butter, muesli & croissants. Bang went any diet! If you get the opportunity to dine with your hosts of an evening, do so. A minimum of 4 guests - so travel with friends! We intend to return..
