We stopped, by chance, in Oamaru just at the start of the Victorian heritage festival. Everyone was dressed up in the old part of town, people on penny farthing bikes were whizzing around and the town had a great atmosphere. We went to the information centre and ashes about accommodation for the night. Most were booked out due to the...

Our breakfast stop was fantastic as was our server, Isabella. Food was prompt, warm and yummy. Although we didn't stay overnight, we did take a tour of the upstairs and, yes, they were remodeling many of the rooms. The hotel has a lot of character and charming atmosphere.

We stayed one night at Brydone Hotel and I guess altogether it was pretty bad luck. We checked in and got a room at the back of the hotel, not really in the main building. The room was rather spacious but also had a very worn look. The bathroom was not really clean with hair from the previous guest still...

I'd say this hotel is more of a 4.5 stars, but I couldn't really find anything significantly wrong with it. The shower head was at nose height (I'm 5 feet 10 inches tall). This seems to be common in NZ. The walls were a bit thin, but the hotel is very old and has black and white pictures on the...

When we stayed Oct 2016 - it was being refurbished, not sure how much of the hotel was being done, we stayed in the superior room - positives: great central location for towns and shopping - friendly reception staff, very helpful - there is a cafe below but we did not go there to dine -there are a couple of...

Called in here for lunch. Good selection on menu with options for small and large meals. We chose to have the small roast. A wonderful variety of vegetables both roasted and steamed. The flavour was great.

Lovely rooms and well appointed facilities. restored historic building. Nice breakfast and helpful staff. Ask for suite. Some rooms are very small but well priced. A suite offers a little more room to stretch out. Really liked the building and it was all close to everything. We walked to historic sites and a quick drive to penguin reserve.

This is a quaint little spot in the middle of the steampunk capital of the world. The service was absolutely of the highest quality, but the building and the amenities left a bit to be desired. Slowest internet I've seen in a while. But Ros, Katrina, Peter, and ALL the restaurant staff were AMAZING. It's worth it for the head-and-shoulders-above...

My wife and I had dinner one evening. We found the staff to be helpful and friendly. The menu had good choices and the food was well cooked and presented. It was mid week so things were fairly quiet so service was prompt.

We stayed one night and had a really mixed experience. It's a lovely old building with fairly new and tidy facilities, in a very central location. There is a newer extension, with bedrooms over a bar, but we weren't in that. The rooms we saw were warm and clean. The carpark is a long way from the rooms and the...
