Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Old and run down, couldn't/wouldn't even supply a toaster. Was quiet though, because no-one else used it. Even the driveways etc were not paved, just gravel. It did have free Wi-Fi though, so all was not lost. The light outside the door was on all night. It was like daylight inside with the lights in the unit off.

We had a great time staying at this motel. Rooms are a little on the oldish side but clean and comfortable for a great price. Lovely free continental breakfast included with price with nice and friendly staff. Will definitely stay again when back in the area

Stayed 2 nights over Christmas period, so my experience may be a bit different to the usual due to that. While the front desk was closed the day I visited, and I had to call staff on a mobile number to collect the key, it was pretty quick and easy.

Some points I noted:
- Clean and comfortable room.
- Friendly and helpful staff.
- Room a bit dated but generally in good condition.
- The window and door was rattling every time the next rooms' door or windows were closed, which was a bit of a disturbance.
- Basic breakfast buffet
- Very good location close to restaurants and port.
- Good, fast, simple to use WI-FI internet.

Having booked this motel as a last minute trip & at the budget end of the scale, I was surprised that the motel was actually very good. Yes, the rooms are older, however are clean and comfortable. The location is opposite the waterfront and a short 5 minute stroll gets you into the middle of the city centre.

The arrival was after standard check-in, however I was met by the duty manager who was friendly, and informative.

This is a place that I would book again without any hesitation and is actually better than some of the "upmarket" locations in the town!

Manager provided misinformation and was rude. Breakfast poor, room old, Not maintained, dIrty, a group of dog boxes with old tins for ashtrays at each front door, room stunk of smoke . Disgusting, we refused to stay after seeing the room.
Has to be The worst motel in Portland. They had the gawl to request a credit card to cover the mini bar, there was only 2 $3.50 bottles of water in the fridge

Response from Macs H, Manager at Econo Lodge Portland

We remember you well. We bent over backwards to help you, You wanted to upgrade from a 3 star motel to a 4.5 Hotel room so there was an extra cost which your employer, who was paying the account, had not authorised. We did not have the authority to charge more to your travel agency. Remember that it was employer who booked you into a 3 star motel room. No one provided you misinformation. No one was rude to you. You tried to bully the front desk staff but when it did not work you wrote this angry review. I was amazed that a public servant could be so rude to staff and I thought that my staff handled your aggression really well. You have suggested that we star rate our own rooms which is not the case. Our 3 star Econolodge rooms were rated by the Victoria Tourism Industry Council in July of 2019 so we are not self rated but rated by the industry regulator. Of course we requested your credit card. What hotel in the world does not. We have in house dining and water in the room and if you leave without settling the bill we are out of pocket as we nearly were in your case. If using this review as a reference please ignore this angry man as we have. FYI here is the next review we received today. Please tell us about anything you particularly liked about your stay at this hotel. Good room, great price excellent service Please tell us about anything you particularly did not like about your stay at this hotel. Nothing

This is a dump. Simply don't waste your time or money. it is a very old and basic motel that hasn't seen any maintenance for many many years. Dirty and well worn. Not much in our room was clean or in good working order. we had noisy party/drinkers next door. we tried to ring reception about the noise at midnight. the room had a guest service directory with a reception number. funny thing is there was no phone in the room to use. brilliant!! we used our mobile phone. half an hour later the party was still going.
this is my home town and i knew the place wasn't a four star place. sure wasn't.

After reading reviews of others experiences at Econo lodge, we stayed.
We had room 12... Besides being quite on first opening of the door, the towels smelled of fish and it was quite noisy on the Saturday night- Beer garden at front pub being adjoining to motels car park. Which made it only a few metres away.

My partner and I recently enjoyed a two night mid week break at the Econo Lodge in Portland. We stayed in a second floor room in the gracious historic hotel with views over Portland Harbour and with restaurants and other amenities on our doorstep. Our room was large and very comfortable and included coffee and tea making facilities and a huge bathroom. We ate at the restaurant downstairs on the first night and, judging from the large mid-week crowd, it’s also a very popular local haunt. The food was great (especially Dora’s scrumptious desserts), there are local wines by the glass and the atmosphere is warm, cosy and convivial, complementing the Portland vibe beautifully. Everyone at EconoLodge from restaurant to reception staff was extremely helpful and accommodating and what a beautiful old world charming building! We didn’t see any whales which was the purpose of our visit but we had such a lovely time in Portland we didn’t feel as if we’d missed out too much.

Have stayed here a number of times and keep returning for its location & friendliness of the staff in all the choices of Accommodation in choice Hotels ...
From check in where from there one can walk in any direction after a long drive there .
The Dining options are also very good as one can dine in the restaurant or eat in the sports bar .
There is plenty of off street parking & complementary wifi too .
Most of all are the friendly staff in the reception bar & Restaurant .
