There’s a few cottages to choose from and this is a place for peace & quiet . Be extremely careful when you drive as there so many wallabies & Echidnas. The rooms are clean and kitchen well equipped. A very accommodative host. There are many wind turbines around too. Did not bother us but thought will mention that too

Great location of course but pay attention, very remote and therefore 3_4_5G does not work. No phone. Great bed, big bathrooms, big tv, good heating and cooling although the house smelled like burned wood all the time. Spa at the terrace (not sure it works, didn’t try it because of the presence of thousands of mousquito’s outside). Kitchen good and everything is there. Food for breakfast, coffee, cutlery, cooking stuff (not the food). Had to go and get keys in town and then drive 8km to house and back because the wifi code to get in did not work. The house itself is dirty, lots of flies inside and the house and windows could get a good clean. I would have given it a 4-star but, the wifi did not work (and they kwew) and therefore I found myself into a remote house, 20 minutes from the centre, without phone, internet or any other way to contact somebody in case of emergency. That is simply dangereous and unacceptable, especially because the owners knew about it. Could be a great location, but really needs a good clean and stable internet-connection…

Walk 60 metres south of this very neat and cosy accommodation and you’d topple over the cliff into the boiling seas of Bass Strait, though the Cape Nelson lighthouse does stand in your way. Close to Portland and literally on the Great South West Walk, this is the place for lovers of coastal scenery and nature; In fact, for lovers in general.

Lovely quiet cottage perched near a working lighthouse 15 mins drive from Portland . We stayed in the Caretakers cottage which is a little more modest than the others I think but still nicely renovated . However there is no fireplaces or a bath , which didn’t bother us at all . The cottage was absolutely clean , well appointed and comfortable with great beds and lots of towels . Every amenity is here including a laundry and dishwasher- not that we needed it as we ate in town . The walks from here are just wonderful and there are many other nature walks around the area too. I would just have 2 tiny suggestions -1. Lots of bacon was left in the fridge for our breakfast but we are vegetarian so that’s a bit wasteful ( maybe ask people ?) and 2. Please clean the window sills . When you open the windows there are loads of dead flies and dirt there which blow in . Other than that .. all great !…

We were fortunate enough to stay in the Sunrise Cottage for two nights. The cottage is absolutely brilliant. Well maintained, restored to perfection and welcoming. The bedroom's are spacious and comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with provisions. The grounds are spacious and being right next to the lighthouse which is spectacular at night. Overall if you can book this property, it is really worthwhile and will provide a very memorable stay.

The Sunset Cottage is worth 10 stars if there was such a rating. The inside is immaculate with all new fixtures meshed into the original lighthouse keeper’s cottage. Just perfect and combined with a short walk to the walking lighthouse for some memorable photos. The breakfast provided is ample and fresh and was thoroughly enjoyed. Perfect for two couples or a small family. Washing facilities are all new and tucked away out of sight. Did not have to use the original fireplace but it was ready to go. Be back for sure.

Do your self a favour come to Portland and stay at Cape Nelson Lighthouse Cottages This review is for Head keepers Cottage 4. A 2bd 2 bath outdoor white stone cottage with a covered in sunroom and above ground spa. A lovely space light and airy with everything you need. There is a choice of accommodation in 5 cottages at the foot of a working Lighthouse in the Cape Nelson State Forest. It’s so peaceful with the sound of the crashing waves on the rocks below, spotting kangaroos, bird life and walking tracks to suit most adventures. Throw in a lighthouse tour from a local guide (book separately $15pp) and you will have yourself a wonderful experience. Cottage 4 was very comfortable with an open fire set up for those cold evenings or just a bit of romance. The decor is simple coastal and comfortable with modern touches like aircon and flat screen TVs dishwasher and laundry. We were okay with WiFi but because of the remoteness it can be tricky. It’s great for a midweek or weekend break all seasons. We were here in December and the days were perfect. Between July-November Cape Nelson is well known for Whale watchers we will be definitely back for that. Only 10mins from Portland central it was a beautiful experience going home relaxed and happy.…

This was our second stay in the head light keepers residence. With four days on our hands we had a spa twice a day and soaked our ailments away with the help of a glass or two of champagne each time, we got used to that. The residence is a true hideaway virtually like a movie set. We have stayed in summer and winter and both are great. The beds are more than comfortable as is the furnishings throughout the house. On one night we listened to the howling wind for hours outside and watched the stars. You just have to experience it to understand. If you have never stayed at a lighthouse cottage because there aren't that many around you have missed a true experience and great time, so go to Cape Nelson and stay where we did you will not be sorry. We are going again in 2022 because it is so good.…

The cottages a gorgeous & well set up with a great breakfast selection. I’ve email the owner & had no response but the smoke from the open fire was unbearable- we have an open fire at home & quite used to lighting a fire but the chimney needs a good clean. There was so much smoke I’m surprised the smoke detectors didn’t go off. We had to use the very noisy reverse cycle air con for the rest of our stay. Totally spoilt our weekend away!

Great bed, big bathroom with unlimited hot water and walk in shower, big tv, good heating and cooling, kitchen good, access to many walks and views, lighthouse close by and cafe open most weekends but limited times Had to get keys in town and lady at reception was not onsite when arrived and when she was forgot to hand over keys with our paperwork as we only realised when 8km out and had to return [ part my fault ? ] Gravel road into back of cottages to ours was VERY rough, no insect screens [ lucky there was bug spray ] , no butter, no sauces, very little shampoo, inside windows could do with a clean
