Detailed Reviews
Cottage was beautifully decorated and cosy in the winter id imagine. The location was beautiful. We had issues getting the spa to heat up, we rang the caretaker at 8.30 pm and he offered to come out, but by that time it was a bit late so we couldn't use the spa. The main bedroom could do with some cooling as you cant open the windows (a ceiling fan would be a great idea). We messaged the Caretaker to advise him about some cleaning issues and the fact that we still couldn't get the spa to heat up at all but we were disappointed that we didn't even receive a courtesy call back. The flies are a bit of a challenge so i would suggest loading up with some aeroguard (not sure if this is a seasonal summer thing).

Lovely quiet cottage perched near a working lighthouse 15 mins drive from Portland .
We stayed in the Caretakers cottage which is a little more modest than the others I think but still nicely renovated . However there is no fireplaces or a bath , which didn’t bother us at all . The cottage was absolutely clean , well appointed and comfortable with great beds and lots of towels .
Every amenity is here including a laundry and dishwasher- not that we needed it as we ate in town .
The walks from here are just wonderful and there are many other nature walks around the area too.
I would just have 2 tiny suggestions -1. Lots of bacon was left in the fridge for our breakfast but we are vegetarian so that’s a bit wasteful ( maybe ask people ?) and 2. Please clean the window sills . When you open the windows there are loads of dead flies and dirt there which blow in .
Other than that .. all great !

Gorgeously renovated, this place is absolutely fantastic. We rented the Headkeepers cottage and the annex at the back, so effectively had a 3 bedroom house - with 3 bathrooms, 3 indoor living areas, 2 kitchens, a laundry and outdoor area with a spa. We adored it. It was so cosy and relaxing, that we bought food to cook at home and stayed in as much as possible. It was very mild weather so the warm spa was great. We had 3 adults and 2 kids, but it would have been amazing with 3 couples too. The lighthouse is a working lighthouse but it didn’t disturb our sleep at all. We were even treated to a visit by a friendly wallaby in the garden.

We stayed at Cottage 3, I was pleasantly surprised with how fastidiously clean this accomodation is, new and up to date fittings and fixtures and with all its well thought out amenities, recreation (books, games, dvds), bathroom accessories, breakfast commodities - coffee machine, eggs, bacon, jams, butter, milk etc.
You could bring your own food and cook easily.
We would certainly stay here again and have no hesitation in recommending these cottages to family and friends.

The cottages a gorgeous & well set up with a great breakfast selection. I’ve email the owner & had no response but the smoke from the open fire was unbearable- we have an open fire at home & quite used to lighting a fire but the chimney needs a good clean. There was so much smoke I’m surprised the smoke detectors didn’t go off. We had to use the very noisy reverse cycle air con for the rest of our stay. Totally spoilt our weekend away!

Great location of course but pay attention, very remote and therefore 3_4_5G does not work. No phone. Great bed, big bathrooms, big tv, good heating and cooling although the house smelled like burned wood all the time. Spa at the terrace (not sure it works, didn’t try it because of the presence of thousands of mousquito’s outside). Kitchen good and everything is there. Food for breakfast, coffee, cutlery, cooking stuff (not the food). Had to go and get keys in town and then drive 8km to house and back because the wifi code to get in did not work. The house itself is dirty, lots of flies inside and the house and windows could get a good clean. I would have given it a 4-star but, the wifi did not work (and they kwew) and therefore I found myself into a remote house, 20 minutes from the centre, without phone, internet or any other way to contact somebody in case of emergency. That is simply dangereous and unacceptable, especially because the owners knew about it.
Could be a great location, but really needs a good clean and stable internet-connection

This was our second stay in the head light keepers residence. With four days on our hands we had a spa twice a day and soaked our ailments away with the help of a glass or two of champagne each time, we got used to that. The residence is a true hideaway virtually like a movie set. We have stayed in summer and winter and both are great. The beds are more than comfortable as is the furnishings throughout the house. On one night we listened to the howling wind for hours outside and watched the stars. You just have to experience it to understand. If you have never stayed at a lighthouse cottage because there aren't that many around you have missed a true experience and great time, so go to Cape Nelson and stay where we did you will not be sorry. We are going again in 2022 because it is so good.

We were fortunate enough to stay in the Sunrise Cottage for two nights. The cottage is absolutely brilliant. Well maintained, restored to perfection and welcoming. The bedroom's are spacious and comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with provisions. The grounds are spacious and being right next to the lighthouse which is spectacular at night. Overall if you can book this property, it is really worthwhile and will provide a very memorable stay.

There’s a few cottages to choose from and this is a place for peace & quiet . Be extremely careful when you drive as there so many wallabies & Echidnas. The rooms are clean and kitchen well equipped. A very accommodative host.
There are many wind turbines around too. Did not bother us but thought will mention that too
