We stayed at the whalers rest motel in portland for one night as we were visiting family in portland.
We had a room for two adults and one child.A single bed and a double bed, must say these are the best and most comfortable beds and pillows we have even had in a motel, also they have electric blankets.
Very clean room and clean bathroom.
TV,microwave, kettle,toaster.
BBQ area...check in was fast and easily.
Very nice place to stay and its the very first motel on left driving in to portland from Melbourne.
5min drive to beach and shopping centre...
Sorry but I forgot to take a photo

We only spent one night here but I was just perfect for that. Right off the Main Street into Portland, very easy to find with clear signage. Lots of parking. The room and bathroom was very clean and spacious. Even though we were close to the main road we didn’t hear a thing, no passing traffic noise. Hosts were very friendly. Recommended for a short stay.

The location was quiet despite being just off the main highway. The room was very spacious, clean & well equipped. The beds were comfortable, good quality linen & toiletries provided. Definitely value for money. The hosts were friendly & helpful. Will stay again anytime.

Stayed for 2 nights on vacation 18-20Jan. Very disappointed with the accom in many aspects.
Pros : Bedsheets are clean. Shower is clean. Towels are clean.
WiFi works well.
Price is reasonable
Cons : Sofa chair is dirty / dusty and you can see a thick layer of dust at the edge near the backrest. Arm rest is dirty
Windows need a new coat of paint for sure
Fridge in the room is TINY .. smaller than a bar fridge
Common kitchen / BBQ area has NOTHING there other than a microwave and an old BBQ set. There are NO taps or basins for you to do any washing up. Chairs and table is in need of replacement and dirty.
Aircon was old and noisy .. the ‘window-unit’ old fashion type.
For a visitor who enjoys a bit of fishing - there is NO place for you to wash your gear or to clean your fish, if you caught any. I did not bother with fishing after finding out this lack of facility
You would think that the owners would use the slack period during the Covid lockdown to do some of these basic upgrading / renovations, or, even some thorough cleaning. But none of that happened, unfortunately.

There are three barking dogs that are next to the property. Ridiculous noisy!
The hard bed.
The curtains are broken, we had to modify them, so the property next door couldn't see in our room.

The lack of communication when I left a message for the property. No reply at all.

On the good side!
It was actually very clean and the owner are nice in person.

Nice big clean tidy room. Sadly manageress not available for check in, turned up 90 mins after supposedly check in time. Friendly enough when she did arrive to collect payment but had to dash off to see to her daughter so no available til later. Not the best customer service. Garden view as praised by previous reviewers was neglected & untidy so disappointing. Suited us for an overnight stop but I wouldn’t rush back.

A pretty good and well priced overnight stop- definitely nothing fancy. We stayed in the 'family suite'- 5 adults and an infant ..rooms were spacious and clean and the shower was big and worked well which was a plus! however a few negatives- it's pretty noisy ( close to the highway and also 2+ dogs behind the property who bark A LOT during the night and only 1 socket worked in the whole room ?!? ..plus the carpark is a little tight with only 1 space allotted per room and people's boats parked up etc ..it may have just been the position of our room and the fact we had 2 utes ...overall would definitely stay there again / recommend for a short stay if your not too fussy and a heavy sleeper !

We stayed here for one night as we travelling through. While not a 'scenic' location, the grounds were well-maintained. Clean and quiet, family-run accommodation. Linens were fresh and wifi coverage was good. We really couldn't ask for more for the price. Highly recommended if you're driving through.
