Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We loved our stay over the weekend. I took my partner away for his birthday because his favourite place to fish is in Portland, we travelled from Ballarat and the lady at the front reception was super nice, fantastic customer service! The hotel cleaners were great to chat to, we didn’t eat at the hotel as the menu was mainly seafood but the lady at the reception was super helpful and recommended us to go to the thistle bar and bistro next door, their food was amazing! Really enjoyed our stay, we stayed in one of the top spa rooms, very nice view and super clean rooms! The pool was very clean and super refreshing in the morning. We had a very relaxing stay, definitely will be returning when we come back to portand! Highly recommend! :)

Checkin was quick and friendly reception staff very helpful. The better rooms with the view area up an outdoor staircase from open free.car park. Our room was a standard queen pretty tired needs updating but very clean. Bed was comfortable. View was great beautiful sunrises over the harbour. The shower ran hot and cold. Room was a bit overpriced compared with similar accommodation weekday rates. We have been staying at Port Fairy just up the road more often now as the accommodation choices and prices are better. Pool was shut on a rare warm day

Spent one night here. Ate in the hotel bar. Very good meal, huge portions. Breakfast was adequate. Room was comfortable but we were bitten by mosquitos either in the bar or room. Basic toiletries were provided. Right on the seafront overlooking the harbour. They did have a price of $3 on the bottle of water in the room which I felt was a bit steep

In the centre of town and restaurants nearby so thought this would be good. Booking and check in was easy. The room was average in size and decor. Free wifi however not secured so didn’t use it. The room was freezing. We tried to change the air con to warm however it would not work, only cold air blowing. Called reception and the lady said she would try to come up. An hour later we had the air con working by turning the temp on cool up to 30. Reception lady arrived with a small heater and said oh it feels warm in here. I explained how we got it working, showing her the remote. She snatched the remote from me and said no that won’t work, even though it was obviously working. She proceeded to turn it back down and said well it’s not working great but it’s still warmer than outside and now you have a heater. Then she left. I was gobsmacked.
We also went to the bistro for dinner only to be told there was a wait of 1.5 hours. And it wasn’t even full!
Upon check out they tried to charge me $20 more than I was quoted for the accommodation and when I told them the rate I was told they said oh you were quoted the wrong price. They honoured the price but it left me feeling like nobody really knew their job.
Pretty town but probably wouldn’t visit again.

I have been coming to this hotel for a 1 night stay for over 13 years, a recent stay last week was very disappointing. Rooms are dated, half the down lights didn't work or flickered enough to give you a head ache. Toilet seat had poo stains under the seat, reception said that a trainee had cleaned it, you would think that it will still be looked over by another cleaner. Jesse @ reception went above & beyond to come and clean it. When checked out I was told that there would be notes in the system so it can be addressed. Just spoke to reception, they had no idea what I was talking about, no notes in the system what so ever!! I do have a photo that I could post but I'll save management the embarrassment.

The location is second to none. I walked in (wearing a mask), and stood at the counter for at least 3 minutes whilst the staff members were a meter away chatting. Feeling invisible, I spoke up and said “Is someone able to take my order please?
The penny dropped and we were shown to our seats.
My wife ordered the cauliflower soul and I the battered fish.
We waited longer than normal, although the view made up for the lull.

We received our lunch ant to our dismay the soup was tasteless and the fish VERY overcooked and dry. Such a disappointment. I gave 2 out of 5, as the salad was fresh and tasty…
Will not venture in there again.

I booked in for an overnight stay in a suite that had a king sized bed and a spa bath and shower in the bathroom. The room was on the 3rd floor which had a view of the port and bay area. From the spa /bathroom they have a big glass window so you can relax in the spa and enjoy the views towards the bay/marina. I paid $210 for the night, but it was well worth it for the views from the relaxing atmosphere of the spa. Definitely worth a visit when in Portland.

Spent two nights here. Great staff, friendly, polite, courteous, great food. The lady in charge of breakfast, my last morning (NYE), was training new staff member, and was so patient with the new one.

Nice big clean room for overnight stay. Great view of the harbour and privacy allowing us to open sliding doors in the room. Lovely dinner at the restaurant, enhanced by a fabulous Ethiopian-Australian staff member. Her gracious manner combined with loads of good humor made our evening. And well done chef. Thx.

A short walk into town from our caravan park and we found a well presented dining area.
The meal choices were very good and the prices very reasonable.
The quality of the food was excellent and the staff of great assistance throughout the meal.
Drinks prices were also quite good and a wide choice of wines available.
