We stayed at this hotel whilst travelling the Great ocean Road. It is an older hotel but the room we were given was absolutely lovely. The room was large and comfortable as was the bathroom. We also ate in the hotel in the evening. The meals we had were delicious, my steak was tender and succulent. A continental breakfast was included in the price of the room - fruit, cereals, yoghurt, toast and drinks. Plenty to keep us going for the rest of the day. I can't recommend this hotel too highly

Several excellent features: first all staff were extremely friendly and made us both feel very welcome. Second the room was both very comfortable and very tastefully appointed. It was large and spacious and the king-size bed was most comfortable. Menu for evening meals was broad-ranging and very generous portions when meals arrived. My scotch fillet steak was most tasty and melted in my mouth. Overnight costs included free drinks and free continental breakfast, making it extremely good value indeed.

Mac's Hotel/Hotel Bentinck is a beautiful historic pub, located near the waterfront and a very short walk to the main street. The rooms were spacious and full of character, furnished to suit the feel of the hotel. The bed was very comfortable, shower was fine and the room was large enough to feel comfortable to spend a night in if you have had a long day. There is no lift, so it is a bit of a pain if you have a lot of luggage. The restaurant downstairs in the hotel had an extensive menu and was very well patronized however was a little on the expensive side with both food and drink. There are several other options for dining or a drink nearby.

My wife and I were recently in Portland, Victoria Australia. The Quality Hotel is three floors and does not have an elevator. My wife has a very hard time with steps and they had put us on the third floor. I asked for a first floor room and they said they did not have one left. A manager near the front desk told the desk clerk the Presidential Suite was available. That sounded great, but it was twice the rate. She said give it to him at the standard rate. That was Great! She did not have to do that, it was around 7:00 PM so it probably would not have rented but to give it to us at the standard rate was a really nice gesture and one that was really appreciated. The room lived up to the name. The woodwork was beautiful, the furnishings exquisite, the bathroom had a wonderful huge tub. I would highly recommend this place just for this jester alone.

We chose the Bentinck in that it reeked history going back to the 1850's ? as Macs Hotel with website photos depicting the modernisation that one comes to expect. We chose an executive king suite (room 27) with its view of the harbour and were really taken by the integration of old with new. Chesterfield lounge, writing desk, reading table, all added to the atmosphere. No lift but stair case is wide with landings, and luggage assist was offered. Hotel restaurant Admella very good range and hotel is within walking distance of other Bentinck restaurants. Even with Covid guidelines the staff presented a very comprehensive included breakfast

THE BAD No microwave. I get it. You want people to use your restaurant or room service. But someone who uses a microwave will generally not use your restaurant
THE UGLY Lost property & service
I forgot an item and called 2 days later. Was told it had been handed in, person could however, not locate it. And from there it just became a revolving door with me calling and the same person giving me excuses. Eventually after 4 phone calls from me the item misteriously appeared and free postage was offered to me. However, 2 weeks later it still had not arrived.
Called for the 5th time and was assured it had been sent the day after we spoke previously. When I asked the person to check the following day with housekeeping the excuses started again. I was told she was not working the next couple of days and when I called the following day, who answered the phone? You guessed it.
At no time was an effort made to get back to me and after the first call I got this feeling the item would never return!!
What was my expectation? Room attendant handed the item in on Thursday morning. Pick up the phone and call the guest. I had checked out but was working in Portland till 4pm. I could have picked it up.
Poor service. First time my business used this hotel and will be the last

Blue room is clean and provides amazing view to the pier. Lots of characters in this historic hotel and easy to park. No elevator so unfortunately it is not accessible. Spa filter and hair dryer in the room are not functioning well, also you can hear the shower running from adjacent room in the morning but that did not take away the joy of staying because you do expect a little hiccups in an older building. Lovely& attentive people running the hotel made up for everything.

We were lucky to be entertained for a late lunch at Quality hotel at Bentinck Street, Portland. Seeing the interior I could imagine the early Victorian lifestyle in Portland where the city would have been an important centre of Victorian migration. Pub was very impressive and reflected the old colonial era. “Rib Eye fillet steak” we ordered was extremely tender, tasty and done to perfection. We were extremely happy with our dining experience.

Our glorious room was a joy with a magnificent bathroom. Staff all great. Food downstairs was 100% fantastic. Locals call it the MAC as that was the original name. Service at all times was utterly perfect. Restaurant downstairs is so popular with locals that we came to realize that it was better to book a table in advance

Wow... arrived at the Quality Hotel in Portland and was immediately impressed by the position of this gorgeous old bluestone hotel , right on the corner overlooking the harbour. We had three rooms for myself and some mates. Rooms are spotless, old world charm and staff where very helpful on check in. Will definitely be back.
