My wife and I recently stayed one night at the Mariner Motel Portland in a standard queen room. The motel is located a fair way from the shopping and restaurant area so you really need to use your car to visit the main areas of town. Check in was quick and easy. All rooms are on a single level with parking outside the units. The room was relatively large and the bed comfortable. The room includes a microwave, plates and cutlery and dishwashing detergent is provided (although the only place to wash utensils is the bathroom sink). The shower has a single dispenser which doubles as soap and shampoo. While Percy Street is the main road into Portland (but not for trucks accessing the port) we were not disturbed by traffic noise. As another review has noted, it is very positive to have two labelled bins in the room so that rubbish and recycling can be sorted.

One issue which somewhat detracted from our stay (and noting that there is probably little that the motel can do to address this) is that the guests from the two adjoining units both left around 6am (on a Saturday morning) and with nose in parking to the units and only a single pane of glass their engine noise woke us up much earlier than we had hoped. Maybe the hotel could request guests to reverse park to minimise disturbance to other guests when leaving?

At $99 per night the Mariner Motel is excellent value and we would be very happy to stay again.

We were thrilled with our stay at the Mariner Hotel in Portland. From the moment we made our reservation, the experience was smooth and welcoming. We received a friendly welcome email, and upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and promptly given our room key. While the exterior of the hotel resembled many standard motels we've visited, we were pleasantly surprised by the interior. The room featured new or recently updated floor coverings, a highly efficient reverse cycle heater, and a very functional bathroom. My wife was particularly impressed by how spotless the room was. We enjoyed a restful night’s sleep and appreciated the convenience of the in-room coffee and tea before heading out early the next morning. Thank you for a delightful stay!

We use Portland as a business hub several times a year so we've back many times. We always choose Mariner. The rooms are spacious, well appointed and the service standards have been consisent through over the years. Rooms are competitively priced the location is useful, being just on the edge of town.

Large, comfortable rooms with an ensuite big bathroom. Great motel and appears to have been freshly rebuilt. The bed is comfy with high-quality bed warmer. The room has been thoroughly cleaned, and has no unpleasant odours. Netflix and the internet are available for free. Good location and easy to find. Beautiful BBQ garden. Low-noise split-system air conditioner. Reasonable price.

😡Downside: they provided simply towels and a bottle of hand wash, without shampoo, body wash, or other items. Fortunately, we had our own toiletries. There is no ventilation in the bathroom. As a result, the unpleasant odour persists. The management, perhaps the owner, was grumpy. Even when we returned the room key, he took it from my fingers like a hawk and said nothing kind, not even a thank you.

Mariner is a small, quiet venue, very professionally run. The rooms are spacious, well appointed , clean and comfortable. The car parks are large (good for SUVs and tradies vans) and it is just out from the busy part of town. It is excllent value for money and the owner is always accommodating.

We had a lovely two night stay an older style motel but a pleasant surprise upon entering our fully renovated room with a beautiful large bathroom and walk in shower, the room had plenty of space and two very comfy tub chairs with footstools, crockery, cutlery, toaster, microwave and a beautiful garden area to sit and relax while cooking a bbq. Very clean and close to shops and cafes and 1 block back from beach. Highly recommend.

The manager was friendly and room was spotless. Air con worked perfectly and the shower pressure amazing! One feature I appreciated was the car parking out front of every room was double width. Great not having to worry about someone banging a door into one of your panels!

Well located and great value for money. Another unexpected bonus was that the tv has Netflix and Stan etc already installed.

I wasn’t surprised when the manager told me they were fully booked out even though it was a mid week night.

Thoroughly recommend the Mariner Motel.

This was one of the most comfortable and SPOTLESS places we stayed in a 38 day Tour of Australia. Never stayed in a Motel but we were impressed. Spacious room ( 12 ) and lovely barbecue area, one of our fellow guests had boughta steak to cook ( never thought of that ) Reception was friendly, helpful and nothing too much trouble. On top of that ths was one of the best showers of the whole journey. A real credit to the owners, so much so we will look at Motels before Hotels for the excellence of the accomodation and VALUE for money.

Maybe a lamp for the rooms, but this is a personal ( and I like to read ) and very minor thing - does not reflect how pleased we were.

Started with Reception. Friendly and courteous. The room had everything we wanted. It was clean and well maintained. Location was perfect too. Not in the busy end of town but close enough for a short stroll to the shops. Car spaces were nice and wide so no risk of other car doors hitting our car. If I have the chance to go to Portland again, this will be my Motel of choice.

This is a very basic motel, which is exactly what we were looking for at a very decent rate.
It was close to the things we wanted to see and we did have a car . I didn’t take a photo of the motel, but it was clean, and very near the places we wanted to visit. This was the first day of a six day trip to the great ocean Road.
We went to a nearby park for a very impromptu feast of seafood, and the view was stunning .
I don’t believe there was an option for coffee that was OK for us and we had brought our own coffee machine on our road trip . we also had a refrigerator plugged into our SUV, which made our road trip snacks and impromptu meals very easy.
The room was clean and fine
