Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

As others have said, the property is dated - about 1970s, I’d think. But it was clean.

On entry, the room was very musty but it didn’t take long to air out with the aircon on and the door open.

The bed was a bit soft and the mattress was old and uncomfortable.

The amenities were as advertised, including 8 Foxtel channels.

It’s simply a place to simply hang your hat while you go see the town and surrounding area.

This motel had everything we wanted. We particularly enjoyed the firm, warm beds, the coffee mugs, crockery and cutlery, a table and kitchen chairs, spacious room, and fresh milk! Not to mention, spotlessly clean, free wifi, great location, reasonable tariff and friendly proprietors. A very comfortable stay. .

We loved our stay at this motel. We stayed in a standard room which was honestly bigger than our flat back in Melbourne! Friendly staff, easy parking, no dramas at all. The bed was very comfortable and the showers were great.

Tired 1970’s decor & over-priced when compared to motels in Apollo Bay and Hahndorf that were cheaper and modern.
Owner was very defensive when I asked to change rooms because of water damaged wall next to the bed. Get over yourself and spend money on modernising the place including tv’s that are big enough to see when sitting in bed.

We stayed one night at this property. Our room was large with a queen and single bed and fridge and microwave. Beds were comfortable and staff was friendly. WiFi was adequate for our purposes. It was beginning of winter and took a while for the room to warm up but otherwise a very good stay.

We were looking for a clean and reasonably priced motel in Portland, and this suited our needs. The hosts are very friendly and welcoming. The accommodation is spacious and clean, you can't ask for more than that at this price...oh, and there was free wifi for each guest (I could hardly believe it, having seen other motels charge for it!) There is no view to speak of, but the locality is good, close to a lot of eateries and shops, plus the foreshore. I would definitely stay here again when visiting Portland.

Hi Darren, thank you for your review, it is always great to hear from our guests. The FREE WiFi is always appreciated by our guests and we always like to advise that if you go over your limit, just come and see us and we will increase the Mb's for you at no charge. It is always pleasing when our guests are happy and satisfied, as that is what we aim for. We enjoy looking after our guests and hope that they in turn enjoy their stay with us and in Portland. We certainly do have a great location with a full range of eating houses within a 2 minute walk of our Motel including up to 5-Star Cuisine, most located directly opposite the foreshore - you can enjoy a view whilst you dine out. Thanks for staying with us, we hope to see you again someday.

We have always had a great experience here on previous visits, but this time was different. No smiling welcome from the new owners. I felt like they were just going through the motions. Room was clean but the overpowering smell of disinfectant left us choking and leaving doors and windows open. The carton of milk given to us was stale and full of lumps. It was still within its use by date, but was off. We didn't discover this until we left. Room was as always clean and comfortable and quiet, but everything around the ground looked tired and neglected - weeds, dead plants, especially the exit driveway. Pot holes, tall weeds, it was embarrassing - a poor parting impression on leaving. Enough to make us stay elsewhere next time.

We stayed overnight on our way to Robe South Australia.
We were both very tired and pleased to find a comfortable bed and plenty of space with a small kitchenette and microwave.
Owner very friendly. The place is fairly old but clean.

Today a friend came up to me and said "I owe you a big thank you!" on querying this they then went on to explain, that I had recommended the Melaleuca Motel. They then went to say how absolutely delighted they were as they went and stayed there! and how totally thrilled they were with everything about the Management, the cleanliness, the position etc with the place. Then they said again "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" On hearing our conversation another lady piped up and said, "Oh yes, we stayed there, that is a lovely place"......I rest my case.

Hi Leanne, thanks for your enquiry. We certainly do take groups. We have 16 units that are a combination of queen, twin or triple and they are all ground floor. We do breakfast for groups, either a cooked or continental breakfast that we set up in our breakfast room. We do not have a restaurant as we have hotels, restaurants, cafes etc all within 100-200 metres from the motel. We can organise a package for you with Bed and breakfast and a group meal at the Gordon Hotel. If you let me know your email address I can send you through some prices. Regards, Kathi
