We stayed in Bungalow #2
Plenty of room. 2 bedroom. Bedroom 1 has a queen bed, bedroom 2 has a single bed and a double bunk bed, and it is fitting 4 people.
Beds were quite comfortable.
Cabin sleeps 6 easily. The kitchen facilities are great. No oven, but electric frypan, gas cooktop, outdoor bbq, toaster, and kettle. Lacking any sharp knives. Full size fridge with freezer
Camp kitchen has ovens etc if needed.
The outdoor area is nice, although holes in fence area, if you are taking a dog with you, you may need to keep them tied up.
Small outdoor firepit in back area.
Bathroom was large and functional. The shower head was fairly poor. The head may be needing replacement.
Split system in the Cabin, it was quite cold outside and we were toasty and comfortable inside.
Very quiet. Even with quite a few guests staying there at the time.
Friendly staff.
We purchased lamb from their on-site office. This was cryovaced and frozen, would have been lovely to have fresh rather than frozen. Was quite yummy, all the same. Just had it wait for it to defrost.
Lovely walking tracks to explore. No 4wd tracking on the property, but plenty of places to go and pay for this nearby.
A great base camp to head out and explore the southern Flinders.
20 minutes from Port Augusta.
Sealed road for entry, dirt road driveway.
Easily accessible in any car.
Would happily return for a stay :)

The caravan group we belong to had the pleasure of staying at this great caravan park in the hills of the southern Flinders Ranges. Caretakers are extremely friendly, the scenery is exquisite. We were even visited by the local sheep and their lambs. Sitting around the campfire during happy hour was wonderful.
Thank you - we will come again.

Spear Creek Caravan Park is one of those places that you won’t normally find by accident. It is located off the main highway (though not too far) and is conveniently sited for travellers heading through the Port Augusta region. At first sight it may appear to be a little barren and uncompromising when driving along the gravel approach road, but at the last minute the road dips into a little shaded oasis of trees and shade and the occasional seasonal creek.

This cosy site offers a lot in the way of facilities: a small shop with the basics – wood, wine, ice, bread, milk, ice cream and more, an outbuilding with a kitchen, toilets, laundry and a series of individual sites plus two group sites ‘Swindon’ and ‘Danielle’. All are powered in the main area though you wouldn’t want to be running a heavy electrical load as the network may not take it. There are comfy cabins to hire and out past the sheep fence are some bush campsites for those who like it better off-grid and with a degree of privacy.

The site advertises itself as a caravan park and that includes of course motorhomes and campervans and is ideal for that. Plenty came and went during our five-night stay. However, campers (like us) need to take note that the ground is not all suitable for tents – especially in the two named areas. It is rock hard and will bend pegs with ease. Sites in the main RV section may be better, but we struggled – big time.

The ‘Swindon’ site is very pretty but unknown to us is susceptible to katabatic winds that may roar in from the gully and play havoc with your tents. We had to move to ‘Danielle’ which Clive and Louize the managers kindly facilitated for us (thanks!). But again, the ground was unmercifully hard, and we had the same problems getting our tents to stick to the ground with all the necessary guy ropes.

So, a great little site and we would happily return – but not with tents. Bring your caravan, motorhome or campervan and have a great time. We’ll be looking for soft turf for our next trip or we might just hire a motorhome instead.

Here you can immerse yourself in the Southern Flinders Ranges. The park is part of a sheep station and all around you can see sheep grazing contentedly, goats running up the hills, rabbits etc. The gum trees must provide prime real estate for the bird life with wonderful hollows to inhabit. There is a variety of accommodation - lovely spacious areas to park a caravan or a tent; motel rooms with ensuites and limited cooking facilities; a bunkhouse for groups and two bedroom cabins with ensuites plus cooking facilities. We chose a motel room which was older style but very clean and provided everything we required for a couple of days.

Firstly the ground is rock! If you are camping good luck getting your pegs in or out, I got two half way in and gave up, the weather was good, I was not going to get blown away!

Location is good, the sunset trail gives you a lovely view over the gulf, however the other Deep Creek walking trail I would not call walking but scrambling trails! While I love a good challenge, the words walking trail made me expect something more leisurely however I ended up climbing over trees and boulders, slipping, falling and climbing along the trail. It was beautiful however the trail is not clearly marked and is not something I would advise as family friendly or suitable for an older group as I am now covered in bruises, unless fully prepared or well experienced. It would be great if they had a range of trails for different abilities given the size of the property. Lots of wildlife spotted while walking too.

Facilities are ok, lots of grey nomads around. Would be nice to see a new toilet block, of the 3 toilets in my block 2 of them the doors did not properly shut. An upgrade of these would really improve the park.

Along with the wildlife there is a fair bit of wire from old fences etc. around the park, which would worry me with small children if left to free roam.

Clearly the owners do care about the place, they were friendly and always keeping the facilities clean. Hopefully a few upgrades would make this a more enjoyable experience.

Response from Tom Herde, Owner at Spear Creek Holiday Park

Hi Em-Lee-Ade, We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Spear Creek. As you might not be aware, we are currently under new ownership and have made a large amount of improvements to the park in a very short space of time. We frequently post updates on our socials so that our guests can follow our journey on our working sheep station. We have multiple amenities blocks around our park for use by guests, with flushing toilets in our bush camping. Not sure if you are familiar with the cost of building a new toilet block in 2023, let alone doing this in rural South Australia. We sure do, that's why we've worked this into our budget for 2024. We can't wait! In regards to the use of our walking trails, it was explained on check in that the the Deep Creek trail is very challenging indeed! We recommend the Spear Creek trail for less experienced walkers or those with mobility issues. A huge amount of wildlife can be seen on both of these walks, and we feel very lucky to be in such a pristine location in the Southern Flinders, and be only 20mins from Port Augusta. We hope that you return in the future and see for yourself the changes and the effort our small team has been putting into the park.

We had a wonderful time at the campground. Beautiful place to watch the sunset.
The BBQ area was very cozy, and the amenities were basic, but it worked.
We bought fresh steaks and sausages at the reception and it were so delicious. They had a very good selection.
There is also a coffee cart where we got great coffee in the morning.
Very friendly staff.

Gracious hosts and fantastic hospitality at this farm stay caravan park… barista coffee, showers, toilets, pets and campfires. Lots of fun had by all with walking trails on site… sunsets overlooking ranges and Spencer Gulf. Close to lots of Southern Flinders Rangers attractions so great for a base to the Flinders or just to relax and do nothing… We stayed over Easter weekend and there was a buzz on Saturday night with homemade pizzas and a band! Get a group of friends together for a weekend away or just the family you won’t be disappointed. Thanks for having us Jai, Tom and team we will back!

Pretty spot. VERY limited power on powered sites. Power trips out often, even when you use low power items.
Not a good place for the middle of winter or summer when you need power for heating and cooling.

Hi A2462WBiang, Thank you for your review. Just to clarify, you were allocated into one of our premium powered bush camp sites. These are extremely spacious and have spectacular views. These sites are limited for power and this was explained to you on check in. Our standard powered sites have no issue with power draw and we are more than happy to allocate/move you into one if these sites if requested. Unfortunately, we are not alerted as to when the power trips. Although, we are contactable 24hrs a day via our office phone and are happy to assist guests after hours if need be. Thanks, Tom

Wow!! Honestly such an amazing place that I will recommend to everyone. I’ve been here a few times now but this was my first time being a bit older and independent, visiting with just my boyfriend. We instantly both commented on how nice the staff were. Sam specifically looked after us for the three nights we were there. We were so insanely grateful for her service and the ways she offered to help us out with our stay. Honestly the best person I’ve ever dealt with at any campground/park. The facilities are all amazing, even more than you need while camping. All kept so well maintained. We stayed in the shearer’s quarters which was lovely. A bit more luxurious than our previous tent. Very clean and set out well, in a lovely spot too. The camp spots all look like they’re in beautiful spots. So much wildlife to see on the walks too which was great. Overall could not have asked for a better stay honestly! Will be coming back as soon as we can with our families. Thank you so much, especially to Sam!!

We visited Spear Creek Caravan Park for the night and arrived late. Thankfully the staff were still there to book us a spot.

We arrived just in time to see the sun go down at their sunset viewing spot.

The next day we had a great walk seeing the local birds, goats and lizards along the trial.

If you are looking to get away for the weekend or longer I would highly recommend this quiet spot.
