Mantra Hervey Bay, situated near marinas and restaurants, has been praised for its prime location, although some guests mention it's a bit of a walk or bus ride to town. The hotel's atmosphere and rooms often receive feedback for being outdated, with numerous travelers suggesting the need for renovations to modernize the amenities and decor. Cleanliness is generally good, but additional attention to detail could enhance the experience. Guests have called out the staff for being friendly and helpful, yet service can be hit or miss when issues arise. Despite its potential, reviewers warn that the hotel falls short in providing expected value for money.

The late check in was not a problem. We stayed in a marina facing hotel room which had a queen bed, small fridge, water boiler, and a bathroom toilet with a jaguzzi. The room was in the fifth floor. The billows and the bed was good and we did not hear any noise from the other rooms, outside or corridor. The room was clean but the carpet was old and had some stains as were the furniture.

We stayed at the Mantra Hervey Bay in October for 2 nights as part of our East Coast Tour. We arrived after a long drive from Noosa at 8.30pm to find that all the restaurants close at 8pm, this was quite a surprise. The receptionist was very welcoming and provided all information for easy check-in. We booked a standard room through Bookings.com and we were disappointed to see how basic and tired the room was with shower over bath.
The best thing about the room was the views over the Marina.

There are restaurants & bars on your door step and the cruises go from the dock which is a 5 minute walk and a big plus if you want to go whale watching. The location of main town is an hour walk away and buses run every 30 minutes.
On the whole the hotel was OK for what we needed but it requires renovation in our opinion.

After rebooking with our credit from a postponed booking due to COVID border restrictions in 2021, it was disappointing to initially be informed a further $185 from the original price of $552 for 5 nights would be required. So we chose to take 4 nights instead which still incurred a further $36 for one night less. Whilst we understand there are costs to be recovered due the losses suffered by the Mantra group, a credit is a credit and should be honoured in good faith for the original booking. In light of the current climate of COVID and policies requiring stringent sanitising and cleanliness, our apartment was not up to the standard we expected! There were tiny insects in all rooms from the kitchen through to the bathroom and bedroom. The air conditioner (which we used the once for a short period) had leaked, dripping onto the carpet below in the living area. This caused an unpleasant musty damp odour throughout the apartment. The sliding screen door to the balcony was in need of repair as it was difficult to slide to open and close. The chairs on the balcony outdoor setting have frayed edges and will possibly cause someone to fall through the seat in due course. We also believe the entry doors leading to the entry door of the apartment are far too heavy to open and hold especially if the guest is elderly. Perhaps the Mantra Group could benefit from the extra charges being incurred by guests, to ensure cleaners were afforded a longer period to perform their required duties and complete the tasks to the standard guests expect!! Overall, we were disappointed with the poor standard of our apartment.

This appears to be a very old property, who really knows but guests should not have to care about such things, the apartments are individually owned which is always a recipe for disaster. If you have any kind of personal standards at all, in other words you value cleanliness real cleanliness look elsewhere for accomodation, housekeeping staff are clearly not given enough time to properly clean the kitchen and cutlery etc. We checked in and used disinfectant wipes to clean every surface and everything we planned on using. This property we booked on the way to home up in north QLD we did not realise that the name hervey bay actually refers to the bay of water off the coast there is no town that is called hervey bay??? The balcony looking over the marina was ok but dirty, the marina has some unclean looking cafes etc unappealing watching the boats and sunrise is nice. The furniture is old the lounge , coffee table and tv unit all need replacing, the units need painting and the kitchens are basic and grubby. In the bathroom there is no exhaust fan so the onus of responsibility is on the guest with endless warnings about not setting off the fire alarms from shower steam and warm air, totally crazy is this even legal or does this meet council regulations. Everything is from another age, 3 star max not luxury but not value priced either. The car parking is really tight but there are lots of choices so all ok for all sizes of vehicles. The TV in the lounge and bedroom need to be thrown out immediately , they are almost unusable, the tv channels do not match the remote/or on the screen. We would not return to this hotel but honestly this area does not have much to offer a tourist or visitor.

Good, efficient and friendly staff, nice view from front of the marina. That’s it.

Room choice is important because we were placed next to the bins, laundry store, lift and stairs

Without a curtain on the tinted bedroom window (by law) It was constantly day, room location was definitely sub optimal, carpet tacks that meant you had to remember not to step on the joins, no towel hanging except over the small poking out edge of stored airer in the bathroom! If you had opened the airer it would have filled the postage stamp bathroom. It would be so inexpensive to add a couple of towel hooks! There was a shower that had no lip - yes it had a grate - but overflowed to the floor. Bathroom had one cupboard door that didn’t close.

Bed was saggy and very uncomfortable.

Be aware, No restaurant or cafe, though others close by, so complementary drink was either soft drink or wine…no coffee.

The linen trolley, which of course was needed to take the linen to the rooms, clattered over the tiles outside as it stopped to replenish the linen for rooms. It was all summed up really while trying to use the tongs in the kitchen but they were so out of shape they didn’t actually close and were functionally inadequate in serving their purpose. Truly disappointing…

Thank you for your candid feedback. I’m truly sorry to hear that your stay was disappointing and that the room allocation did not meet your expectations. I understand how important comfort and functionality are, and I apologize for the issues you encountered with the room’s location, bathroom, and amenities. Your comments about the lack of towel hooks, the shower overflow, and the bed comfort will be addressed with our maintenance team to ensure improvements are made. I also appreciate your feedback regarding the kitchen utensils and the noise from the linen trolley. While I’m glad you found our staff friendly and enjoyed the views, I regret that these positives did not outweigh your overall experience. We were very disappointed in the room that we were allocated. The attached web photo for the room we booked shows a bright room with a double glass door, a great view and bright room. The room that we received (photos attached) was dark and dingy, had a tiny balcony and a good view of the back of the airconditioner on the balcony. There was no breeze to the room, which was very stuffy.
The room is very tired and outdated and the fittings cheap and some broken. The only towel rail in the bathroom was coming off the wall and the vent to the airconditioner was broken. There was no space to put your luggage or a rack to put your luggage on. Other than the drawers in the bedside table (one each side), there were no other drawers to put clothes into. The back of the airconditioner blew hot air at you when you were on the balcony.
There was one lift to 6 floors of units and it was very slow.
We found out on check in that the hotel was fully booked, so could not ask for another room.
We stayed 3 nights (at $216 per night) and the room was not serviced - not even rubbish removal.
On the plus side the hotel is in a good location if you want to be close to the marina to go on a whale watching tour. There are also some good restaurants nearby.

here is my review that i left for this disgusting place on google: That they removed!
Clearly run by a franchisee of Mantra or people that have management rights, but no cash to ensure the upkeep and cleanliness of the place: Ironically, as a demonstration of their customer service, they have removed my review from sight on google, but not bothered to respond to my written complaint.

$270 per night at this place. $270! Per night! After walking into our room I was thrown back to a 1976 time warp, with wood panelled bedhead, veneer wardrobe, a desk that looks like it was put together by uncle Terry who's never built a thing in his life and a bathroom that has a window feature, allowing you to sit and watch your partner bursting a blood vessel, whilst pushing out last night's dinner. Its so old, i was half expecting to see my dad who died 43 years ago! Having just arrived from the Coral Sea Resort in Airlie Beach, at $400 per night, we were met with a great restaurant, bar, modern pool area, modern, CLEAN rooms and beach area and such a vast difference in room for almost the same price, outrageous.

Seems to me mantra Hervey Bay relies heavily on the influx of tourists so in love with the whales, they are completely blind to the value for money content they receive when they come to stay. This is no better than a side of the road motel, which should be costing $120 per night.

During the night we had bilge pumps going from one of the boats, jazz music playing from one of the fellow guests and our, what sounded like, 70 + year old neighbour telling her husband to fk off at 7 am.

Would definitely not recommend Mantra at Hervey Bay, whilst the staff are pleasant enough, the rooms are old, dirty and clearly run by franchisees who don't have the funds to upkeep or upgrade the rooms.

Frankly, I think the best thing about Mantra, Hervey Bay is watching the 1976 time warp disappear in the rear view mirror as you are leaving. Can fully understand why the whales are attracted to the cold wet waters of Hervey Bay, and have to say after my experience in the dry, dirty room of the Mantra, I was tempted to join them!

I have since disputed the payment through amex on account that when we relooked at the advert for the room, it depicts, a spacious, airy modern room and white walls, when the reality is far from that, with sticky furniture, dirty dirty cabinetry, decor that is from another world, grubby balcony furniture and of course the benefit of carpet, that sticks to your feet its so dirty, would hate to think what you'd discover if you did a bacteria test on the place. In this day and age, when the advert differs so greatly from the reality it is misleading and that, is taking funds by deception. Absolutely disgusting, we checked out a day early.

left my review 5 days ago, wrote into herveybayre@mantra.com.au and have not heard a word from anyone since.

My recent stay at this establishment left much to be desired. Instead of the sleek and inviting spaces depicted online, I found myself in dingy rooms lacking in both cleanliness and modern amenities.

The initial room I was given was a grim affair. Tucked away in a corner of the building, it offered a view of nothing but walls and grass. The lack of cleanliness was striking, with mysterious stains adorning the carpet and curtains, paint and woodwork marred with scratches and chips, ants making themselves at home along the walls, and a few unfortunate souls perished in the bathtub. The mold above the AC unit added to the unsavory ambiance, while clumps of hair littered the bathroom floor.

Upon voicing my concerns to the reception, I was relocated to what was purported to be a "VIP room" with a promise of a better experience. While the view of the marina was indeed fantastic, the room still fell short. Its dated decor and the makeshift double bed, composed of two singles uncomfortably pushed together, were disappointing.

The presence of a dead cockroach in the bathroom further dampened any hopes of a pleasant stay. Despite requesting a clean-up, the sight of the persistent cockroach greeted me upon my return.

Furthermore, the "gym" advertised on the website was a dismal excuse for fitness facilities. Instead of a well-equipped exercise area, guests are greeted with a claustrophobic glass box adjacent to the reception, housing a treadmill, a bench, and a cycling machine. The absence of free weights is particularly disappointing, especially considering the price point of this establishment. As someone who values fitness and chose this hotel partly for its advertised gym, this was a major letdown.

For the price charged, one would also expect at least a smart TV, allowing guests to access streaming services like Netflix. It's a minor point compared to the broader issues with cleanliness and facilities, but it speaks to the overall lack of attention to guest comfort and satisfaction.

The nearby restaurant options are good and if you have a view of the marina it is pretty, but I would strongly discourage staying here until it has had a serious revamp. Highly disappointed in the Mantra and Accor brands.

Our first room was on the first floor. The patio opened to the pool, such that a swim ladder enabled a guest to exit the pool into the patio and straight into the room. Apparently many guests have entered the unit soaking wet, because the unit was permeated with the moldy smell. The furniture was dirty and bedraggled. I didn’t want to sit in it. There was a common area next to the room with a loud drinking group. When we asked for a new room, we were told there were none available. About 10 minutes later a different staff person contacted us and they moved us to a unit that did not have pool access. It was a bit musty selling, but much better. The walls were a dingy yellow, the ceiling was asbestos popcorn, one of the hinges in a kitchen cabinet was broken so the door hung down precariously when opened. The jetted tub/shower had such a high side to step over to get in and out, that despite the grab bar, it would have been difficult for some seniors and persons with disabilities to access the shower. The nit slept 4, but there were two patio chairs and two dining chairs. The parking lot filled up in the evening. On the good side, the towels were plush, there was good water pressure and plenty of hot water, the kitchen amenities were good, bed was comfortable with ok linens, the proximity to the whale excursion boats was great, the free parking was appreciated.

Thank you for sharing your comprehensive feedback regarding your stay. I’m genuinely sorry to hear about the issues you encountered with your initial room, including the musty smell and noise from nearby guests. It’s important to us that our guests feel comfortable and at home, and I regret that we fell short in this instance. I’m glad to hear that the second room was an improvement, but I understand there were still concerns, particularly with the bathroom accessibility and overall condition. Your comments regarding the furniture and room maintenance will be addressed with our team as we strive for continuous improvement. I appreciate your positive notes about the towels, water pressure, and proximity to whale watching excursions. An amazing location which was ruined by the ungrateful staff
We checked in after hours, which was prearranged and went smoothly. The next morning, we went shopping for groceries, returned to the hotel, carried the shopping up to our room, only to find that we were locked out.
Apparently we had to sign a piece of paper to complete our check in from the night before. Pity that nobody hold told us. A simple phone call would have been courteous, but they choose to lock guests out of their room instead. Very ignorant policy that needs to be changed.
No room service to provide clean towels etc
They need to learn to respect their customers

My wife and I always ask for Room 625 or 627 or any room immediately below those two. They’re one bedroom with a full kitchen and a nice balcony overlooking the marina out toward Woody and Fraser Islands. That’s just our choice but I think all rooms overlook the marina. As for Whale watching, we’ve been on all the tours and they’re pretty much all the same.
