The lovely hosts, Debbie and Ted, really made our stay in Kaikoura vey memorable indeed. The quiet location and great room provided the ideal place to get some rest pre- and post our wildlife-packed day of excursions. Debbie helped organise our wildlife trips (dolphin swim, seal colony walk and whale watch) to make sure we fitted in all 3 in...

We stayed at Sails for 3 nights during our visit from the UK. The accommodation was first class, very clean and quiet, in an excellent location and the service was exceptional. We cannot thank Deb and Ted enough for their hospitality - above and beyond what you would expect. Sails Motel is an absolute must for anyone visiting Kaikoura.

Have to agree with previous posts that the rooms are a bit tired. Bed was really uncomfortable and the tv was smaller than our computer screen. Deb is an excellent host, warm and helpful, and the grounds are very attractive. Though tired, the room was spotless.

We stayed 2 nights on our Sth Island road trip. This property is quite lovely. It's down a long driveway and is very private, but still just across the road from the beach. It's a touch out of the main shopping area, but a short walk to the bars and restaurants - but this was good with a family. The...

We stayed here for 3 nights over New Year (11/12) and had a great time. The accommodation is spotless, well appointed, and the motel is in a good location. It is outside of the main area of shops and bars and pubs (which means its quieter) and on the best part of the beach. It's a really easy 2-5 minute...

I have stayed here 3 times and always found it clean and welcoming. Debs is very knowledgeable and keen to share this with her guests. I would recommend this as a good base for anyone exploring the area.

It’s a narrow runway leading from the main road into Sails Motel, but it’s well signposted at not hard to find. Owner Deb was a lovely host, we felt very welcome all from the first e-mail contact to when we left after just a one night stay. Kaikoura is a pretty place well worth visiting and this motel offers good...

This place is tucked behind the main shore front and so is peaceful and quiet for a great night's sleep. In fact, I think we were the only residents on our one night in May. It is not great if you want sea views, but these are only a stone's throw away. And it was tremendous value for money in...

Deb was a joy to deal with the moment we arrived in Kaikoura. We only had 1 night but it was such a fantastic experience that we would def go back again! Deb provided superb recommendations for great food! She was also helpful in providing stationery for postage; more so when we had to return something to Hanmer Springs. The...

We stayed in a studio unit and it was in TIP TOP condition. Extremely well kept and comfy beds. Deb went the extra mile to on the heater in the evening to ensure the room was nice and warm. We brought back crayfish and fresh fish from our fishing trip and she set up the BBQ for us! Love it...
