My partner and I actually stayed in this hostel during the 2016 earthquake which hit Kaikoura pretty badly. We couldn't have been in a better place during this time. The hostel held up incredibly well and the owner Helen did the most wonderful job of holding everything together. She organised everything for us, kept everyone calm and offered everyone to...

Clean rooms, well equipped kitchen, nice staff, great location close to town, wonderful patio and garden (and hammock) for the guests and just a wonderful place to stay. I would stay here for longer next time - just hope that everything is okay after the terrible earthquakes

Helen is such a lovely owner, helpful and welcoming to all her guests. The hostel is cosy and clean, and there is a large deck which overlooks snowcapped mountains and the sea - great view to wake up to! Great location which is minutes from the town centre and to the beach. Free WiFi! Don't look any further than here!

Possibly the best hostel I have stayed at. Very quiet, beautiful garden, great facilities, very clean, seemingly new and very comfy matresses, friendly and welcoming owner. Very short walk to the main highstreet where the iSite is. Would absolutely stay there again.

This is a nice, clean hostel with a friendly owner. Has a large kitchen for cooking and the hot tub in the back is a plus. The rooms are very clean, and the hostel is in a great location. Would recommend.

Following a friend's recommendation (she had seen it but not stayed here) we tried this place for one night. We were late arrivals, and the atmosphere just didn't feel right. We were greeted and our room was shown to us- separate twin room, no bunks but outside the actual house. Small shared (female and male) bathroom with little privacy for...

I stayed at the Dolphin Lodge for three nights, in a 6 bed dorm. The room was spacious and there were mostly single beds - only one bunk - which is always a plus! The views from the room were pretty good but my oh my, go onto the deck from the living room and really enjoy the most beautiful...

If only there was more to do in Kaikoura! I checked in for two nights to go whale watching. The hostel is intentionally small and homely. Helen was lovely and helpful. She made us all pumpkin soup with as much fresh bread as we could eat and chocolate sponge squares the first night I was there! The common area is...

My family stayed at the Dolphin Lodge for 4 nights and we loved it. The hostel is about 5 minutes walk from the main street away, has an outdoor hot tub, a wood fire in the lounge and a very well equipped kitchen. And if you are a nature lover - the view of the sunrise you are having from...

We only stayed for one night. The place was clean, but our 4-bed room was limited to only 1 outlet with a 30 minute timer.. so charging all our cameras/phones was difficult. The wifi was also down for our entire stay. Amazing view of the sunrise over the water though!

Thank Emily W
