The place was untidy and on the old run-down side. It was on the hippie side and had a hippie feeling. Found mice running through the BBQ. Hosts were unfriendly; they lacked the hospitable touch. Only good thing was the hot shower, If you want to stay at a hippie place with mice running through, and on the cheap side in MR, this is the place for you in Margaret river!

We stayed a total of 4 nights in Nov 2019. To be honest, the experience was totally different on the first three nights when Lara was not around - it just felt somewhat like a self-catering Airbnb with not much going on farm-wise. I guess it would been ok if I were paying less instead of $300+ a night. The vegetable patch that many travelers spoke about was also rather disappointing. There were however plus points - we did enjoy walking around the farm and the nearby walking trail. We were mostly alone on the farm. It was very peaceful and tranquil. The house, kitchen, toilet were adequate and we also managed to cook our steaks and lamb chops. Lara is also an excellent host who shared with us her experience moving to MR, learning to make wines and the flavors of her produce (capers and avocados are good) and we really enjoyed talking to her. Jamie probably had a bad day and didn’t say hi at all. I think in the end whether you should choose this property for your vacation depends on your personal preferences - service versus privacy.

This place was a haven for peace. Ideally situated for the wineries. Accomodation was extremely clean, very well equipped and very comfortable. The grounds of tge farm and the forestry nearby were wonderful to walk round. The animals and vegetable garden were great. WiFi was not too good, but not a problem. Loved it here.

We only stayed for two nights at Burnside & our only regret was not staying longer. The serenity was incredible, off the beaten track, yet a mere 8min drive to Margaret River township, the facilities here are incredible & the seclusion delightful. We stayed in a self contained bungalow with a spa in the bathroom. We met Lara upon check in, she was lovely & keen to assist any way that she could - she gives great restaurant tips. The Bungalows are well equipped, well maintained & have everything you need. The only thing we found slightly annoying was the fact there were no condiments in the kitchen (oil, balsamic etc) this however was quickly rectified with a trip into town nonetheless it would have been amazing if these had have been in the kitchen already. We took full advantage of the privacy & also the opportunity to cook some local produce while we were there. Burnside was an excellent accommodation choice, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here & if we were to return to the Margaret River Region would most definitely consider staying again.

We loved the modernity of this property whilst at the same time being totally immersed in an authentic working 100% organic farm. It's what us city dwellers imagine luxury on a farm might be. We wanted a place where we could escape as a family and truly appreciate the warm hospitality that Lara and Jamie provided. Needless to say, the kids loved every moment of it and in hindsight we should have stayed a little longer. It's a working farm and we like that we are given our space whilst the activity goes on around us.

This was a peaceful chilled getaway. Baby bunnies running around, heaps of bright beautiful birds...and peace and quiet. Nice organic produce, eco friendly living, lovely hosts and did I mention peace & quiet? 😊 Located central to all the fun yummy stop spots in the region. Cottage was clean, comfy, and well facilitated. Perfect for time out of the rat race...reading and relaxing in the hammock or on the verandah. Great break away.

Our 2nd time at Burnside and this time we came back with family - booking 2 one-bedroom bungalows. The farm has changed slightly since we were last here - their olive grove has gone because of a recurrent problem with parrots from the nearby nature reserve and we didn't spot their troupe of guinea fowl - natural pest control - that used to wander the grounds to our delight. Pigs and geese are still around and the kitchen garden where you can help yourself to herbs and whatever is in season. It was autumn this visit, so what was available was a bit limited - but still enjoyed the tamarillos. Lara and Jamie who run the farm are quite private - so don't expect to be offered any kind of hospitality "service" - people who expect that should maybe look somewhere else. It's self-catering accommodation and prices are higher, but the luxury you pay for is the size of the bungalows and facilities available in them. We love the pot belly fireplace and the kitchen where good meals can be prepared. We were given free organic eggs and there's good literature available with advice on good local hikes and local amenities. Lara and Jamie are around if you need help but do expect to be a bit more independent here. It's fantastic.

We stayed 6 nights at the 2 bedroom chalet and had a great week. Our kids enjoyed the animal feeding every morning together with the owners. The chalets are comfortable and very well maintained. We realy enjoyed the quiet and peacefull evenings. Burnside is close to the town, beach and many wineries the area has to offer.

Two very different ways to look at this stay – objectively, this is perfectly fine place to stay for a few days – the cottages are well-appointed if not very well maintained and the location is excellent, close to all the main attractions around Margaret River (the town). So in terms of accommodation, this is a decent if basic option and one which should satisfy most guests with limited expectations. Nothing to fault there and Jamie and Lara are well-meaning hosts. However, our reason for choosing to stay on a farm was to get our kids to interact with animals and for us to have a more personal experience than what a typical hotel might offer. In this respect this stay was a clear disappointment. We arrived to no one – our key was on the bench outside of the locked office with a note. We had a couple of interactions with the owners and they were polite in that way which people keen to maintain their privacy are – there was a clear sense that we were there because having guests helps pay for the costs of running a farm; not so much because they had woken-up to an unquenched desire to engage with visitors. Overall, it felt entirely transactional in every aspect. Fair enough for sure and I wouldn’t fault this aside for the fact that our very reason to be there was to experience a more personal and involved stay. In this respect this did not meet expectations as for me the premise of a farm stay goes far beyond the ability to provide basic accommodation.

The farm house was beautifully built and was well equipped with nice appliances. Veggie garden was fantastic. This supplies vegetables for owners and visitors are invited to use supplied pair of scissors to pick leaves from dozens of healthy plants in the garden. Our host Lara was very accommodating and a highlight for us was a tour of the property to feed the animals and we were then provided with beautiful free range eggs from the farm's chickens. Great location. 10 min drive to Margaret River. Home sourced wine, capers and honey were beautiful. It was lovely to arrive to fire burning well in the fire place. Would definitely recommend it.
