Detailed Reviews
We stayed for 2 nights at a 3 bedroom cottage with spa at the tail end of winter (early Sep), so the weather was still extremely chilly after sundown. There were 6 of us - 2 adults, 2 kids and our 2 elderly mothers. I personally found the country life a refreshing experience but being city dwellers from a tropical country, I certainly wished we were better prepared for the chilly & windy weather in margaret river. The cottage is heated by a log fire located at the living room and it certainly took a long time to get our 3 bedrooms warmed up. In fact I think the rooms were still a tad too chilly for our liking. It was a little better on the second night, but it would certainly have helped if there were portable heaters/radiators for the individual rooms. There were portable standing fans available, I guess, for hot summer nights. Our kids were so cold they actually slept on the sofa around the fireplace. We only realised on the 2nd night that we should stuff as many logs as we could into the furnace (before going to bed) and let it burn through the night. Our host told us this when he visited us to check up on our very smoky fireplace. On the first night, one of us kept adding one log at a time throughout the night to get the fire and warmth going, so we didn't get much sleep. This fireplace experience was very interesting for us and the kids. But our elderly mothers were less impressed though, and found the cold quite unbearable.
The kitchen was very well equipped and had everything we needed to prepare meals, but we did wish there was butter or oil because we forgot to buy these, and had to borrow some from our hosts. Salt and pepper and a bottle of fresh milk was provided though. The kids enjoyed feeding the farm animals (sheep, alpacas and kangaroos), esp the horses, and also the chickens. The hosts' friendly pet dog was also a hit with the kids. The visit to the dairy farm was more of an eye-opening experience. It was a real working farm, and because of the showers, the place was somewhat muddy and dirty. I didn't dare to milk the cows at all in fear of being kicked by their muddy hind hooves! I'm sure we would have enjoyed our stay even more if the weather was slightly less chilly/windy & wet.
We went grocery shopping at Coles in Margaret River. The farm is centrally located, so not too far off from the surrounding wineries, caves or lighthouse at Augusta.

Perfect little farmstay in the Margaret River area of SW Australia. Cottages were great for our family of five, with all of the modern appliances. Kids enjoyed feeding the animals and just a five minute drive to the beautiful Redgate Beach. Highly recommend for families with younger kids.
