Had the most delicious BLT. This road stop had a small menu and cabinet food. As well as friendly staff and clean toilets.
Not only did they sell food and petrol but had very reasonably priced accommodation on offer.

A nice stay. As travelling through we decided to give it a shot. We had heard about some of the places in the area being a little sketchy in terms of the cleanliness of the rooms however we found ours to be okay.
Wouldn’t rush back however for a motel it was nice and price was fair. Thanks,
Laura

We are at the tail end of a 7 week holiday, and pulled into the Billabong Homestead (the Shell roadhouse- not the one next door!) to get fuel and ended up staying the night after talking to the owner-a guy called Andrew. he took over on Oct 2 this year.
The changes he has made, and the changes he intends to make, has made this roadhouse a fantastic place to break up the trip.
The food and service was fantastic, the drinks icy cold and our room very clean. We look forward to seeing Andrew's vision for the future unfold.
Apart from Donger Style Accomodation, they have powered and unpowered sites. A children's playground is planned to let the little ones unwind after a long drive. They even have a charging station for EV vehicles!
So do yourself a favour and call in for fuel, food, accommodation or all of the above! You won't regret it.

We stayed one night on our way up north in their caravan park. We were one of only 3 vans and we parked right down the back so avoided the road noise to a large extent. Had dinner in the roadhouse - excellent fish and chips and good coffee - also the lady serving was delightful. Definitely stay another time - only complaint would be the ablutions are not so good, but are usable.

go to the original roadhouse next door. The shell thinks that a great business practice is to block competitors signs with excavators and trucks. The staff are beyond rude, as are the management. Shell corporate should just deregister and close this site. Prices are comparatively more expensive then next door. Close this place at once. Might also need a health inspector in there, and work cover. Dodgy b@$t@rd$.

Great for a quick stopover as we did. Unfortunately the beds were very uncomfortable. If you take up the "continental breakfast" make sure children are supervised. Our children (teenagers) ran ahead for breakfast whilst we were tidying/packing and they got into trouble for not being supervidsed.

Stayed once again in the caravan park. Only half a doz vans here. Good overnighter at $25 night for power, nice hot showers and proper loos.
Tavern has happy hour 4.30 to 5.30, and good home cooked meals. Nice spot to chill on the verandah area, after a long days drive.

Very rude staff at Shell Billabong on Thursday 25 / 10 / 2018.
We wanted air for tyres, and we were prepared to buy something in the Shell service stn shop, but he told us, and I quote, to 'f--k off' because we didn't buy his fuel, which was much cheaper next door at roadhouse (but has no air compressor).
I hope we just caught the guy on a bad day, and he's not normally abusive to customers.

This place had a certain reputation but is under new management and the manager, Ian and his wife, were very friendly and helpful. They've done a lot to improve the place already.
I had a motel room, which was very clean and generally comfortable with new furniture and a clean bathroom. The only downside was it's the only place I've come across with no kettle or fridge etc in the room, so not great if you want to make your own tea or breakfast etc. There was only a stool to sit on too, and no actual chairs, so it wasn't particularly comfortable for spending time in the room.
The rates were good - I've certainly had poorer accommodation at higher costs in these remote areas.
It was worth staying here just to see the wonderful swarm of birds around the billabong first thing in the morning.

Do not stop at this Un-Australian Business. Absolutely terrible business practice and the fuel is far more expensive than the Roadhouse next door! The tactic of placing obstructions in front of your cheaper competitors signage deserves nothing less than the great Aussie one finger salute 🖕
