There were sliding doors with access to an outdoor table.
It was very comfortable, quiet and suitably dark and light when required. The shower was good, the TV worked and the light-switches were easy to use with minimal fumbling.
Next time I'm there I'll take my bathers as the pool area looked pretty good for an after work dip.
You're out of town, probably 2-3 kms so you need to travel for meals and supplies. Don't expect anything decent from the pub next door - it is woeful - and the resort front desk goes to great lengths explaining they have nothing to do with the management of the pub. The resort service was friendly and welcoming.
I have been travelling to Geraldton for work on and off since 1997; this is by far and away the best accommodation I've come across in this town in all that time.
Well, we went all the way to Geraldton, driving five hours alongside the ocean on the magnificent Indian Ocean Road (well recommended for ease of driving, and great little towns to stop in. don't miss The Cray Shack in Cervantes. Packed, popular, well cooked food, not cheap but worth it. Japanese chef.
We tried to get accommodation at the Mantra, which is well located, on the water, associated with a great restaurant called Skeetas, but it was full for sailing races.
Anyway, upon arrival at Broadwater, we discovered that our one bedroom unit had a window that looked out on a wall that was shoulder height, and a side road. The entrance was in the parking lot -- hardly salubrious either. There's only a single one-storey building in front of the resort -- a Pub called L'Attitude 38 -- yet none of the units that are for rent, actually have an ocean view! How silly, and no warning! Not Happy, Jan! I was told only the three-bedroom residential units have a view, and they're not for rent. What a waste. so you have to be happy with a pool at the eastern end of the resort. now what you'd expect being across the street from the ocean. very disappointing.
That being said, the rooms are large enough, clean, well maintained, comfortable. I was not impressed with the housekeeping rules: your room gets cleaned every three days unless the third day is a Sunday, so we had the same sheets over four days, and frankly, I change my owns sheets at home more often than that. It really took the edge off the whole trip, being in a box in a dark hole.
Check in was quick however the guy that checked us in was not welcoming and came across as a smart alec.
You receive 2 room swipe cards on a key ring with a remote control to open and close the gate to drive your car through to your apartment. Car parking is allocated directly outside your door and is under cover which is very convenient.
The entrance into the studio rooms is a poor design and caused so much unwelcomed noise. Firstly you go through a glass door that is not locked and you stand inside this little entrance area. This entrance area has doors to 4 apartments in it. You then have to enter your keycard to get into your room. I have no idea why you have to enter through 2 doors to get into your room. All this has done, is made it very noisy when people come and go. This ruined our much needed rest and we asked up front, for a room in a quiet location. So what do they do – they put us between 2 rooms that have mining shift workers in them. As these miners left their rooms, one at 5.10am and the other at 5.45 am all the doors in that little stupid foyer area slammed, not just once or twice it seemed to go on and woke us up. Then next door, we have someone packing their kayaks from their room onto the roof of their car, it sounded like the cleaners were in the room it was so noisy. They then washed their dishes with their bedroom door open and we could here everything from inside our unit. At this point we decided to get out of bed and check out of this horrible place ASAP.
There are many many work vehicles in this complex, so they obviously cater to the big mining and engineering companies and don’t cater for the holiday maker. When we checked out we expressed our concerns over the noise and them placing us between shift workers when we asked for a quite location and she said “next time we will bear this in mind” we said don’t worry there wont be a next time! There are plenty of other nice places to stay in Geraldton as we saw from driving around town.
Some good things about the resort:
The pool is a great size, clean and there are a couple of BBQ’s next to the pool area.
The room was very well appointed and they catered for a lot of furniture and kitchen accessories.
The resort is across the road from the beach.
Good travel magazines in the room, that tells you about things to do in the area.
Undercover parking outside your door.
Downfalls:
As you can see from my photo’s we were put in a disabled room – not sure why there was no required from us and it wasn’t like the resort was full.
Rooms are only serviced every 3 or 4 days – some literature in the room says 3 days and others say 4
All the studio rooms appear to be around the pool. We had a back sliding door that went out to the pool but you couldn’t access the pool via here as there was no way to lock the room after you left. So you have to go out the front door and walk all the way around.
Bedroom has heavy curtains which is good in the morning, however there is no netting under them so if you want to open the curtains during the day everyone can see in and the heat belts in the window.
Not so much as a soap holder in the shower. Know where to put your shampoo, soap etc…
They do not provide a pen or piece of paper in the room – very odd for a resort.
We have never stayed in a resort before, where you can turn to channel 1 on our room TV and watch the live CCTV footage from around the resort – you have to worry about privacy issues here.
Walls are very thin; we could hear our neighbors showering
You are far from the main town centre, a car is needed
The mini bar is not stocked. There is a price list in the room that says if you want anything from the list, ring reception and they will deliver to you within 30 minutes. You could drive into town and back quicker than that. Have never seen this before in a resort either.
If you are going to use the swimming pool ask reception for more towels as there are not enough in the room.
Where do I start? It's like you are entering a gated community, or a retirement village when you arrive. The art on the walls has to be seen to be believed, it is really THAT BAD. There was a fuse box IN THE BEDROOM that buzzed all night. The couch was harder than a board. The entry is a double door and the front door has a cover over the card slot, making it basically impossible to gain access using one hand, which is just awesome when you have a heap of luggage in the other hand. There is only one pillow size = HUGE. Bad luck if you like a smaller pillow, I tried to go without but the bed was so hard it hurt my back and then when I tried sleeping with the pillow, I got neck cramps. I realise some people might like a high pillow, but surely there would be some options in the top of the wardrobe.... no, two more skyscraper pillows.
The best bit? When we told reception we had a terrible stay, they said "oh, sorry 'bout that" and let us be on our way without so much as a discount or any concessions that might salvage them from receiving this nasty review.
If this is the best place to stay in Geraldton, then I think Geraldton tourism is in dire strife.
The room was very comfortable with a king size bed. Outside the pool looked very inviting for a visit at a warmer time. The resort is located a few kms from the centre of Geraldton but not far enough to be a problem.
