The carpets are old and smelly. The room has this musty smell due to the carpet being so old. The smell is so strong I could not sleep. I had to rub Vics Vaporub around my nose to dilute the smell. Also, there is only 1 washbasin. One uses the toilet and food preparations but uses the same basin. I strongly disagree that that is a hygienic provision. Walls have chipped paints. Needs a new paint job to freshen up. Also, the airconditioning/heating is too noisy. It's the older type. Even though I turned off the one in my room so I could sleep, I could hear the heating/airconditioning noise from next door. I would go to a newer or renovated accomodation next time. I enjoyed Warnambool but not the accomodation.

We stayed this April on this motel, recently they refurbish the room that we stayed as disable-friendly (my wife has some problems) shower was very wide with handrails and parking was a disabled one right next to the room. We had some people parking there but we had a very friendly attitude from the receptionist/concierge/gardener who was always helpful and with a smile on his face, he lend us a cone to be put in our space. Twice some people park there but they moved right away.

This motel is pet friendly too. We plan go come back here.

Normally I stay at the gateway when I travel for business but this time I had my wife and 3 month old son along for a visit to the grandparents for the long weekend. As per usual the service and facilities is perfect. Brendan and Udae (site manager) organised a bigger room to accommodate all our "baby" things. As normal we had a great stay and can recommend the gateway motor inn Warrnambool for both business and holiday.

Room was small and not well-kept. Everything in it seems so tired.
There wasn’t even a separate sink for washing up, even though there was a kitchenette. Imagine using the same place for brushing teeth & plates.
Definitely not value for money for the price I paid.
Train tracks are also not too far away.
Will not recommend even if you’re on a budget.

Response from manager_gateway, Guest Relations Manager at Gateway Motor Inn
Responded 23 Apr 2019
Thanks for your review EnjOy224, unfortunately due to you hiding behind a fake name we are unable to determine if you actually stayed with us and if so, which suite you stayed in. Most guests find our accommodation great value with reviews stating "best Value for Money" 22/12/2018 "Perfect 4 Night Stay" 24/12/2018 "Excellent" 22/12/2018 "Great" 13/01/2019 and yes few guests may sometimes have an issue. When they advise us of an issue whilst still at the property, we can assist in rectifying the issue they have, but after departing and hiding behind a FAKE name, well we will leave that upto you. All I can suggest in your future travels if you have any concerns with your accommodation, take the time to discuss with the onsite owner or manager, who will be pleased to help.

Travelled with an infant for 5 hours and when we got there they told us rooms had been double booked through no fault of theirs but through booking.com. We weren't ever contacted or informed regarding the mistake. But that was ok these things happen. we could have lived with that. The worst part of it all was the owners attitude. First he said that its not their fault they just worked there and spoke to us like he didnt care and it was our fault for booking through Booking.com and then the lady said that they have only just taken over a month ago. He then told us he found accomodation at another hotel, however when we got there they told us that they told the Gateway motor inn that they only had 1 room available and we needed 2 or 3 rooms or accomodation to suit 5 adults and a baby. We were left running around looking for somewhere to stay with a 6 month old baby. I have never experienced such rudeness.

After booking this motel on line it was fair to say we were disgusted with what was to follow.
$300.00 for a night in this place is just absurd.
First of all the key didn't work properly, apparently my fault as I didn wriggle it enough to make it work.
Once entering the studio apartment we were disgusted with the condition of the room.
The whiteboard on the wall the filling cabinet in the corner.
After making our way to the bathroom it was just about time to leave and just accept the fee was gone.
My wife and child contemplated sleeping in our transporter as it was actually cleaner than this bad excuse for a place to say.
On our return we still couldn't get the key to wriggle enough to open the door.
Apparently once again it was our fault as we just couldn't get the wriggle right.
After staying in many hotels here and abroad this is definitely the worst accomodation we have ever experienced.
Maybe $100.00 for the accomodation we wouldn't be so critical as you get what you pay for.
There should be some sort of recourse as this was so over the top for pricing it should be quiet simply against

We were a family of 4 and required the accessible room for our son, who is physically disabled. The room had two queen beds and was spacious and clean. There was a bar sized fridge, large sink area, good-sized TV and Wifi.

The bathroom was a great size and had rails in the shower and next to the toilet. The manager was kind enough to provide a stool for the shower upon request.

The pool was clean and had BBQ facilities. We found the property fairly quiet despite being on the main road. There is continental breakfast for $10 and you can have cooked for a little extra. If you are looking for a great place for dinner try Bojangles for terrific Italian food.

Stayed for 2 nights, room was spotless, handy position, plenty of tea & coffee, plenty of heating for the very cold nights while we were there, would use again if we were staying in the area, and the wifi was magic, bloody well done people

We were given an upstairs room at the front of the hotel and it is NOT quiet, the noise from the highway was constant and in the still of the night very loud. The hotel is not advertised as being on the Princess Highway but is, so be prepared for a LOT of traffic noise, day and night. We live close to a main road so are used to a reasonable amount of road noise but the trucks thundered past all night and kept us awake. There is obviously no double glazing on the windows in order to keep the noise out.

The battery in the smoke detector starting chirping at 10.45 pm, after reception had closed. There is no after hours contact, just a "leave a message"when you dial reception which the owner cheerfully informed me he "just got" when he "came back in the morning" when I checked out at 8.20 am, from which I presume means nobody sleeps on the site. Certainly there was nobody in the unit next to us that we were told on arrival was the managers unit as we banged on that door trying to get assistance when the alarm first started chirping. And if you are reading this saying "sorry" to a guest who had to listen to a smoke detector chirp every five minutes until 3 am when I got up on a chair and ripped the battery out doesn't cut it. I was supposed to be in the middle of a relaxing three days off. I don't cope without sleeping and the entire journey along the Great Ocean Road was ruined for me because I was overtired. There are obvious OH&S issues here too. How often are the batteries replaced, if at all? Sorry just doesn't cut it in the event of a fire and if nobody other than guests actually sleeps on the site what happens if any sort of emergency happens?

Other issues:

The configuration of the room was such that the bed could be seen from the road from the window and every other unit from the door, so there was no privacy at all. The room would be better set up with the bed on the other wall.

There is a 34 cm step into the shower which has poor water pressure, and as I have bad knees I could not get in or out of the shower without assistance.

The wooden slat blinds did NOT stop the light from the sign lighting up the room like day at night even when fully closed.

The freezer in the fridge didn't work.

The clock radio time on SA time so we left later than planned.

The room is cold at night and the heater kept turning itself off well before the temperature setting was met.

The bed covers, sheets and blanket a bit too short, like doubles on a queen.

Given we paid $20 for the night more than the Melbourne hotel we stayed at the next night I was expecting far more from this hotel. It was very, very disappointing and I would not recommend it to anyone.

The only good thing about the motel was its proximity to the Town and Country Pizza and Pasta shop which is located in the nearby shopping centre. It was one of the best pizzas I have ever had, absolutely delicious and with massive amounts of toppings. My partner's pasta was equally well cooked and a generous serving.

Have travelled for work into Warrnambool several times and this motel never dissapoints!
Owner runs motel himself most of the time and is very helpful and friendly.
Clean spacious rooms and bathrooms with spa.
Flat screen TVs are in all rooms with free wifi too, so if you're travelling for work this is quite handy.
Room rates are extremely well priced for what you get!
Definately staying here again everytime I pop into town! A+++
