Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

WiFi is limited to 500 Mo per day, and yes, it's 2020. Beds are disgusting, reeking and my matress was stained with blood. No noise insulation so you are in the middle of a constant party with loud - very loud - music from 7 am to 11pm. And that been said, it's written everywhere that you are not suppose to party after 10pm and not to drink on the premises, but the staff doesn't enforce it. "Private" rooms don't lock (105 for example) so we had constantly people barging in, one in the middle of the night at 3am and one being A STAFF MEMBER with no apologies). We didn't get the room we booked and asked for a few solutions, the staff didn't accommodate us and didn't communicate about the fact that we needed an other room. When asked for a refund because obviously they couldn't accommodate us, the receptionist went in a tantrum, literally yelling at me and started crying that "this is not the way she wants to start her day" and "I ruined it for her", that "I can call booking.com, I am not getting a refund - that's the end of it!"...yeah, true story...NEVER SEEN THAT IN MY LIFE! Didn't even know what to do with her with her tears and yells. I basically told her to stop her drama because I can't talk with a drama queen AND THEN, when I FINALLY got the chance to explain the problem to her, she immediately apologised and gave us the room we actually booked. Bipolarity to it's Apex! Unbelievable. I think she needs either a shrink or at least a good month nerve rest...I am still digesting and honestly even felt guilty even trying to get what I basically paid for.

The best, most chill hostel in St Kilda. Small hostel located right on Fitzroy with a great family atmosphere. Facilities are in excellent shape and prices are lower than most other hostels in St Kilda. Special thank you to Stacey and the rest of the team for making this place so amazing! You guys are the best

This hostel is perfect for a stay in St.Kilda. Not the cleanest but good enough. Good place for a long term stay. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Especially Stacey, she is an excellent manager with a lovely personality. Would recommend.

My friends and I booked 4 rooms together during Feb 2020...we arrived and they could not give us rooms together. Within the first 4 hours here, we saw ants in our beds and a MOUSE run across the floor. We didn't feel comfortable sleeping there, told the front desk, so we left at around midnight to get a nearby hotel room. Tried to get our money back for our 3 night stay which they could not refund at all. We probably stopped by the hostel a total of 4 times and called countless times/contacts. Every customer service rep redirected us to a different number without any real help. Very hard to contact anyone who was able to mend the situation. When we FINALLY got the area manager on the phone (5 days after the initial problem), he told us there was absolutely nothing he could do and we could not get our money back. Incredibly rude and useless. Horrible customer service and gross conditions -- don't waste your money or time on this establishment.

We’ve been travelling for months, and stayed in many hostels (including in Asia) but this is by far the WORST place we have stayed. Everywhere is dark, dirty, smelly and loud. The French mafia have taken over the place and all seem to live there drinking and smoking weed all night. ‘Free’ WiFi isn’t free. You get something like 200mb then have to pay. The kitchen is a disgrace. The toilets are disgusting. Our room wasn’t clean at all, hairs and dust everywhere, leaking fridge in the room, mould on the window and blind. The bedding looks like it’s from the 70s. They refused to give us a refund which is a joke until I went to our booking agency and eventually did get a refund. AVOID.

This has to be one of the worst hostels I have ever stayed in! All I can say is, filthy, filthy & even more filthy! It’s absolutely disgusting & I wouldn’t recommend anyone to waste their money staying here. It seems that the french rule the roost here, sleep all day & party, smoke & vomit all night. The corridors were full of vomit in the mornings, bathroom sinks full of vomit & toilets constantly empty of toilet roll! The room was filthy, and had the worst smell about it. Fridge in room was leaking and the bed was horrendous. Corridors were lined with dirty work boots & fag butts everywhere. The kitchen is literally so small that if your not there at the crack of dawn, you won’t get any plates or crockery & the fridges are disgusting. Staff don’t seem to care either, and with such bad reviews I’m surprised this place hasn’t been shut down yet! AVOID, AVIOD peeps!

Stayed at the Ritz with friends for around a week and loved every minute of it, great vibes with friendly staff. I found it easy to make friends here and the facilities were well cleaned. Looking forward to my return early next year.

This place should be avoided at all costs. We booked 4 nights here off the back of good reviews (bizarre how this has any good reviews) and requested a refund after being here for about 4 hours. It was late so we had to stay the first night but only out of necessity. The place is dark and dingy from the moment you walk in. The communal areas are filthy, clearly most people live in the hostel as there are muddy boots outside most of the doors and mud all over the carpets. The kitchen is disgusting. The floor was sticky and the windows are covered in a greasy film where they’ve never been cleaned. One of the windows was broken and propped open with a chopping board. They were offering a free bbq that night but after seeing the greasy state of the bbq in the kitchen we quickly decided against it. Our room had not been cleaned. We found long hairs on the floor and thick dust on the skirting boards along with water leaking from the fridge - which was also dirty. The communal area is constantly occupied by rude gangs of French people who openly smoke weed and leave cans and bottles lying around. After we expressed our severe discontent with the place the receptionist didn’t seem overly concerned and wasn’t going to give us a refund for the remaining 3 nights. They did eventually. The location isn’t great either - it’s a 10-min walk from the tram stop which takes about 25 mins in the first place. Do yourself a favour and book somewhere else.

if you want to feel like you're back in your university dorm again, this hostel is the place to be. With squeaky bunk beds, a job that doesn't work and a shared bathroom, it doesn't get much closer. Of course there's no classes to take, so you can sleep in without feeling guilty.
