Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is the first time in a long time since we have stayed here as it was always generally our 'go to' for a night away when attending a nearby show at the Palais. This is also the first time where we were completely underwhelmed with our room. Whilst the room was large, it barely had any furniture in it and looked dismal. Not even a piece of artwork on the walls which isnt the be all and end all, however can go a long way to making a space feel cosy. The room did not look anything like the photos online. Massive amount of noise from the trams in the early morning. They sound like they are actually coming through the room. The bed was ordinary with a particularly flimsy 'doona'. The bathroom was extremely cold and had no provision whatsoever to hold basic items around the vanity. Overall based on that room, we wouldn't bother again.

The staff were very friendly and helpful The room was clean but needs more than one chair in the room! WiFi is terrible! Very slow and was not able to download any data whatsoever. A very good experience overall.

Stayed at this hotel one night and wish that I didn’t! After checking out of the hotel I later realised that I left my Apple charger plugged in next to the bed so called the hotel for them to keep aside and I would collect. The receptionist then proceeded to tell me that nothing was found in the room by the housekeeper. This frustrated me considerably as this now was a matter of, the rooms are not cleaned properly or the housekeeper decided to keep it! After communicating my frustration, I was then told to contact the manager by email to tell them the problem. I was also told that they had several other Apple charges that had been left by other guests that I could come collect. Which was strange as when I asked what the normal procedure was when a guest left an item in the room they told me that they contact them….. So the following day, I drove over an hour to collect an Apple iPhone charger to only be presented with a dirty charger that was not Apple IPhone….. very disappointing and not good enough! The hotel housekeeping staff are either pocketing guest items or are not throughly cleaning the rooms (Yuck!). I would definitely suggest staying elsewhere. I paid $220 for the room, however I have now paid $376 for one night stay in a dingy room and a Sunday wasted by travel and having to purchase a new charger anyway. However, if you don’t mind not knowing if the room you stay in is thoroughly cleaned or if you may have your items stollen. Go for it! On a side note, if the hotel is willing to provide a solution. I’m happy to remove ‘every’ review I post

The location is great, very close to restaurants and the beach. The room is big, with a comfy bed. The room was clean. Only complaint is the bathroom is small with little hanging space. - Would stay again

This is in an excellent location, close to restaurants, bars and the Palais Theatre which are all within walking distance. We had a Clean, comfortable room, and the staff were friendly and obliging. Secure parking a bonus. We would definitely stay here again.

Absolutely perfect location for my overnight trip. Wonderful reception staff, very clean large bedroom and well appointed. They even had the AC warming my room as it was freezing that day. Plenty of eateries and shops within walking distance and tram stop 138 is just up the road. Definitely returning here next visit to Victoria.

I've stayed here plenty of times over the years but the latest booking was a disappointment. It was taken over the phone and no warning was given of the $18 parking fee that has recently been implemented. There's also no signage in reception warning about it either. They also struggle to provide an itemised invoice with an accurate total charge. Mine had to be hand-written, it was confusing.

HI Scott, Thank you for your review. Apologies that the team was not able to provide you that there is parking fee implemented. We can provide you a soft copy of your invoice if you could give us your email address to send it through. It is the proper folio invoice and not hand written. We are sorry that our standard was not on par during this stay. Hoping to welcome you again, Warm Regards, Team Cosmo

I guess with a great location comes city noise. We were on the ground floor, so noise from the trams, traffic and people enjoying St Kilda was inevitable. We were unable to completely close our bathroom window, so it got quite cold. The shower was great, our room needed some paint touch ups but really, that was you get for a good value property. Parking was only $10 per night and there is a great coffee shop across the road. You are only a 5 minute walk away from Luna Park and the tram stop, so very convenient if that’s what you are in St Kilda for.

We stayed here quite a while back when visiting Melbourne and thought we would try it again. We enjoyed the location and the nearby cafes and supermarket but this time we were very disappointed on so many levels. We were charged on our credit card instead of the usual holding deposit. We did not want the charge of the credit card fee and the guy at reception did not advise us that we could avoid this by using EFTPOS. The kitchen bench and cooktop were dirty with white residue when we walked in. We were advised prior to arriving that due to Covid, the room would not be serviced which we understood. However, upon returning to the room after a day out at 6pm, on the 2nd day of our arrival, we noticed our front door was ajar and not closed properly. Apparently, housekeeping came and left clean towels, but the dirty towels not taken. One bed was made and the others not. We were very angry that our room was left open which was a security risk. We complained to numerous people at reception and asked for compensation at this breach. We were refunded our parking for the duration we were there. We were very fortunate that nothing was stolen, Also, when turning on the exhaust fan in the kitchen, all this white stuff fell out all over the food we were preparing on the cooktop. Disgusting! The remote in the bedroom aircon did not work and staff did not try to get another - just said 'sometimes they get mixed up". The button to press to turn on was too high up to reach. The shower was difficult to get a decent temperature of water - either boiling hot or cold! The WiFi was disconnected after 2 days and when we called and asked why, they replied that we were checking out. We advised that we only checked in the previous day!!! It seems they had used a password for a previous customer and not changed or extended it. The parking on site is $10 a day but if you have a car parked opposite you, it's a little tricky to get out. Driving out of the gate, there is a steep dip and it scratches the bottom of the front of the car. I would not recommend this place and next time we visit Melbourne, we will look elsewhere.

Visited the Cosmo as we were seeing a show at the Palais so decided to make a weekend of it. I gave this hotel an average score because it was not brilliant but accommodated us well. The room was clean, the bed was soft (a little too soft for me) we had everything we needed, maybe a larger cake of soap would have been better or 2 of those little ones but all in all was ok. Handy 5 minute walk to the Palais theatre and a hop skip and a jump from Acland St. I would stay here again but only if I couldn't find a brilliant hotel.
