Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Arrived here for dinner. Staff were friendly. The place had a great atmosphere, was busy, being a Saturday night. The menu had a great variety of food and had some vegan options. We ordered our food and drinks together. The starters come out, calamari was fresh and delicious, and the garlic bread was full of flavour. For mains we both had the parmi, buffalo and the Mexican. Both were nice but lacking flavour. I expected the buffalo to be hot, but was very mild, had heaps of blue cheese but not enough hot sauce. The Mexican parmi which my partner had a lot of toppings but was a little dry. We had to remind the staff we ordered drinks and they brought them out half way through our main meal. They were apologetic. Been an Irish pub it had a great selection of beers. Based on the experience yeah maybe we would visit the restaurant again.

Great place to enjoy lunch inside a cosy Hotel which has great views to the north of Geelong. You just go upstairs and spot a table with a view to the beach and beyond. Very warm inside with fantastic heaters to keep the chill out on a cold afternoon.

A typical pub parma big and juicy chicken & plenty of topping. A lot of variety on the Tuesday Parma night , everyone cleared their plate in our party of 15. Service was a little slow the Affagoto and desserts were not really worth the bother. Overall it was just an average pub meal but you wont go away hungry. Staff were pleasant.

This was a really nice place for dinner, with a decent priced menu, good service and a massive drinks list. The food came quickly and was delicious. There was a cool vibe although there are a few blank walls that would look great with a bit of artwork or something on them. Overall it was very enjoyable, plus there was lots of parking.

This was actually the first time I stayed in a hotel/hostel inside a pub (Though I guess it is very common in Australia...since so many bars here called "Hotel XX"?). It is indeed an interesting experience. You have to go to the pub counter to "check-in." However, I think the pub and the hostel have separate management, so the bartenders tend not to know a lot about the hotel/hostel upstairs (The bartender who helped me checking in could not even find the key to my room, at first). I had my own private room and it is very basic inside. Aside from my bed and a chair, there is no other furniture. There is no air-con in my room (but an electric fan). However, the sleep quality is generally fine since it was breezy in the evening. The bathrooms are shared and they are quite small. The living room is homey and a good place to socialize. I stayed there only on weekdays, so I am not sure if the pub get very popular and influence the sleeping quality of the guests who stay upstairs. However, there was a small concert one night with a band coming all the way from Ireland. I was glad that, as a guest upstairs, I was allowed to get in for the concert without paying the AU$10 entry fees. One issue is that Irish Murphy is actually quite far away from the beach and center of Geelong. I think it is about 30 minutes' walk to the waterfront. However, it is walkable.

The hostel doesn't actually have staff on site (pub worker showed me to my room but didn't really know the answers to any of my questions). Room did not lock at all!!! Not very secure for a developed country and the cost of a lock and sets of keys can't be that much, considering every other hostel I've ever been to can afford it. Bathroom was ok but only 2 toilets and showers for all the rooms luckily it wasn't busy as it's off season. Electricity for the multiple plug socket kept failing - not all sockets in the room worked. No soap in the bathroom to wash your hands. Kitchen is small but useable. Pub is very noisy on a weekend - people banging on tables, loud music etc till it closes. Staff for hostel are contactable by mobile but don't seem to offer many solutions to the problems of unlockable door (said it was fully booked) and multiple plug socket (try resetting it). It's passable but not good value for money at all I've paid less in Australia for better value and I think a bit of money needs to be spent to spruce it up - tv smashed, locks on all rooms etc.

I opted for the dorm room for 6 people for $80 for 2 nights (half the price of a private room). The dorm consisted of 2x double beds and 2x single beds. I had the dorm entirely to myself for my stay and so had a private double bed room for half the cost of usual so very happy! Mattress was very comfortable. Room itself was very warm (but then it is Australia) but there was a fan in the room. Towel was ripped, but didn't actually affect my stay at all. The guy I met to check me in was extremely friendly, made me feel totally at home, offered to help with my bags. He showed me around and made me feel welcome. Free laundry available, nicely supplied kitchen, massive tv in the lounge. Good showers, clean and with necessities available to borrow.

Good service and a reasonably good meal. We chose the fish and chips and the Irish stew. Batter on the fish was a bit soggy but the stew was very tasty and the meat well cooked. Would probably go back!
