Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Again, great food. I don’t understand any of the negative reviews. Staff are great. Menu is extensive, with weekly specials. Servings are quite large - man sized, I’d say but luckily take away containers are available, free of charge, so you can enjoy the rest of the meal at home. I am a regular patron of this place, so close to home too.

What a dump. It can not be called hotel by any stretch of imagination! It is actually just watering hole for local drinkers and gambling house for local gambling adicts. Reception was closed so you are checking in with gambling machines cashier but you can not just rock up and expect the service there. No... You have to wait for the cashier to finish serving "at the bar"... Anything from 5 to 15 min and hopefully someone will come and check you in and take your money... Shocking service for $160 per night, that is all I can say about checking in process. Place is far away from city centre and usual restaurants. You think you can have some food at The Sphinx Hotel?? After all, they do have a "bistro" with about 10 tables there. Sorry you can not dine there if you haven't prebooked... Does not matter that you are guest of "hotel" and you just checked in... You are welcome to starve or drive 10 minutes to the nearest restaurant. My advice is save yourself disappointment and stay in normal hotel/motel. I know I will avoid "The Sphinx" in the future.

Food was delicious, table of 10 and all meals were lovely. Pumpkin paella, kiev, steak, burgers, parmi and vegetarian meals. Great size. Terrific desert's for everyone too. Kids and adults. Will be back again for sure.

Interesting decor. Called in for the pokies (and dinner). Reasonably fast service. I had the pork belly and my wife had the pork roast. Food OK but the meat was tough. Beware of the pokies - they weren't paying out

Simple, old-fashioned motel type accommodation at the back of a quirky poker machine gambling joint. On-site pub style dinner was good, but no breakfast so you need to drive down to Pakington Street cafes. Big carpark. Decent sleep. Little of interest nearby.

Needing quick feed on winter day but wanting something home style. Recalled Sphinx sports bar has a quick serve lunch buffet plate for $10. Friendly waitress served up a cracking plate of beef casserole, veg & chips. Buttered roll on the side. Spacious dining area and watched the greyhounds on telly. Great value meal plate, deliciously cooked and fresh.

After finding out the rooms at the Sphinx are cheaper and in better condition, we decided to make the switch and stay here when we work in the area. Great atmosphere in the bar and gaming area. Friendly staff who are very helpful when we are arriving late to check in. Yet to have a meal here but definitely looking forward to it and many more stays in the future. If you’re looking to upgrade your electric hot water service to a heat pump to save money on power bills, get in touch with chromagen and you won’t be disappointed.

We were quite satisfied with our room however the shower head was damaged and we had water shooting everywhere. our biggest concern was with other occupants who were enjoying an all night party. outside our room. After reporting this problem to the cleaner the following morning, followed up with an email to the Hotel Manager on my return home. I have had no response from Management. I find their lack of care very unsatisfactory. we had no way of contacting anyone overnight, My companion & myself had to work the next day after a night with no sleep. very disappointed with their lack of response.

We called in for dinner and the found the food great and the staff friendly. The Egyptian inspired decor made for a unique dining experience. There was something for everyone on the menu and the meals were a good size and well priced.
