Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I'll begin this review by pointing out that IF the weather had been suitable, the review would have been headed by a 5 instead of a 4. Safety is always important and when the Murray is running high and fast, the safest thing to do is to leave the boat in the hands of the most experienced person, in this case, the very friendly and helpful Ken Montgomery. The Britannia, one of the smaller boats, in spite of the relative scale and facilities of the bigger boats, lacked nothing in terms of comfort and convenience. Their website truthfully indicates exactly what you will get once onboard. Very comfortable beds along with high quality towels (good tea towels in the kitchen no less!) meant that we were never short on being dry and warm; the split system gave us cosy temperatures when it was anything but outside. The peace and quiet of the river, broken only by the sound of paddle steamers was great to experience and we will return with enthusiasm to do it again. Our hosts Ken and Julie Montgomery were diligent in providing everything we needed to make our weekend a memorable and highly enjoyable experience. If you are planning a houseboat experience, this business is who to call!

Thankyou Bruce for your very kind feedback and review. Mother nature has not been kind in the last couple of years however we will always do our very best to help make a memorable holiday for our guests. The Murray is beautiful in high water but a little more challenging. Hope to see you another time on the Mighty Murray and all of the best. Julie and Ken and the Murray River Houseboats team

We've just completed the most wonderful family holiday on the MV Indulgence with Murray River Houseboats. The boat was immaculate, the staff friendly and helpful, and the owners were totally professional. We strongly recommend MRH for a pleasant, peaceful yet fun experience. Well done Ken & Julie Montgomery.

Just a quick thank you to Graham, Leanne, Jody & gang, for a great 4 on Osprey. The whole team are about welcoming you to their houseboats, Yvonne & I went down a day early and were shown the houseboat by one of the ladies that look after the boats. On day one we were greeted by Jody and given a quick tour of Osprey’s features and operation. Once everybody was finally aboard Jody watched me to see if I managed to hit anything on the way out of the marina, yea!! We missed everything, a quick trip down stream, a U turn and docked with the bank, Jody pronounced me an ‘ Honorary Captain’ and off we went to explore upstream from Renmark. The boat had everything you could possibly want in a vessel like this, H&C Shower, 2 toilets, 3 bedrooms and kitchen, dining lounge, plus two outside undercover decks. Great sized fridge freezer, ice box for the ales, new gas range and a remote controlled petrol powered generator, if the need arises. TV, video and stereo finished off the equip. We were lucky to have won one of the River Revival giveaway vouchers for $750. That was half price for the houseboat hire straight away. I contacted Leanne and she did everything she could to help with the booking, thanks Leanne. All in all the team were outstanding in their service and helpfulness towards us, they were great and this is what stands companies apart. Thanks to you all for making the trip memorable, we would recommend you to all and sundry. Special mention to Jody and his antics with a very small paddle. 🤣 Sorry mate, could not let that one go by 😁😁

A unique adventure with luxury all the way. Before we even set foot on board the special treatment started with Ken and Julie's focus to ensure we had the best experience. As we didn’t have a vehicle they went that extra distance by picking up our bags from a local hotel and dropping them onto the boat for us. We were then free to shop for groceries at a local supermarket before they again returned to pick us up with our supplies. The houseboat we had booked was “A touch of Opulence” a beautifully appointed boat with all the mod cons you could need including a Spa, BBQ, spacious dining areas on both top and bottom decks, Air-conditioning, well-appointed kitchen, TV and Wi-Fi just to name a few. Prior to leaving dock we were given a rundown from the very friendly and capable support crew on how to skipper the houseboat. This included how start and stop the engine, pull up and moor against the bank and operate all the other features. For our safety they assisted with leaving the dock then travelled on-board a few hundred metres up the river before bidding us farewell to continue the adventure on our own. We originally planned for 3 couples to be on board but unfortunately the others were unable to make it due to unforeseen circumstances so it ended up being just the 2 of us. Driving the boat was easier than I thought once you had gotten use to the size and how it responded to your commands. The instructions from the crew seemed to be easy, Keep Right, drive slowly, give yourself plenty of time and room to manoeuvre, relax and enjoy yourself. We generally only travelled for about 3 to 4 hours along the river before mooring up for the day against the riverbank. We then concluded the evening with a glass of wine while sitting in the luxurious spa on the upper deck. Over the whole week this allowed us to travel a distance of about 50 Km’s down river, this even included a 2 night stop at a secluded part of the river. We travelled in the week that straddled May and June and although the nights were cool we surprised by how nice the days were with very mild weather. We also had the bonus of the river being a lot quieter as compared to the summer and holiday periods. During our week long journey we only had an occasional boat pass by. The top deck which had the 360 degrees panoramic view and spa became a bit of a focal point during the evening. I was quite surprised how quickly the spa would warm up. The way it was setup you could heat the water from a tepid 24 degrees to a steamy 39 degrees in less than half an hour. Electrical Power was supplied with a mixture solar batteries and a generator. Starting the generator was a manual process but easy to do, flick the switch push the button that’s it. The generator only needed to run for a few hours a day mainly to supply energy for some of the more power thirsty appliances such as the air conditioner and coffee machine. This allowed for plenty of quiet time especially when sleeping. We would highly recommend Murray River Houseboats with their well-appointed, easy to operate Houseboats and their commitment to a high standard of customer service, for you next holiday experience along one of Australia Iconic Rivers.

My husband and I had a wonderful relaxing holiday on the Murray River on The Mayflower. It was peaceful, relaxing and a really lovely way to unwind and get back in touch with nature. The boat was wonderful with everything we needed and the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. We highly recommend this business and experience if you are interested in a houseboat holiday on the water

The huge bowl of fresh fruit and a seemingly endless supply of fluffy white towels were just the beginning of an amazing holiday with our adult children, to celebrate Mother’s Day this year. A Touch of Opulence was tastefully decorated and well equipped. The four bedrooms and two bathrooms were perfect for us, along with the large spa and spacious living areas. The friendly staff were experienced, skilled and patient as we learned to navigate the river and were only a phone call away at all times, if needed. With the weather on our side we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back.

We were a group of 3 couples who chose Murray River Houseboats for a 5 nights stay because the boats looked so well maintained and on our boat (the Indulgence) we all had our own ensuites. Right from our first contact with owners Ken and Julie we were impressed - great communication and very informative. We arrived by train to the beautiful town of Echuca and Ken and Josh happily drove us around to gather our provisions. They were very welcoming and helpful. The boat was impressive - fantastic kitchen with everything you could wish for including a full sized fridge. All equipment and cutlery felt new and fresh. Bed linen was also great quality and beds were comfortable. There were ample towels supplied. Showers were hot with good water pressure. The lounge area was roomy and comfortable. It was scrupulously clean. The boys were happy with the BBQ as well. A HUGE bowl of fresh fruit and quality bottle of wine are provided.. the fruit bowl had a great selection of fruit and included several avocados, bananas, apples, grapes, oranges - very generous. Spa was in great condition with fresh water and is heated. We could not have been happier. The river itself was easy to navigate and peaceful. Its a great relaxing holiday and we would be keen to do it all again - we would not hestiate to book again in future with Ken and Julie and their happy staff. Top class! Be aware with houseboat holidays you do have to pay for the fuel used and cost of the generator but we did a fair bit of cruising around and the cost was very reasonable.

We had a family holiday with our adult kids and their partners on the boat Decadence and we had an absolute ball. It was like a great way to have a family treat and touch base with everyone. From the booking with Julie through to the excellent service by the team on the water led by Josh and Brock, the week was excellent. I cant recommend this highly enough.
