Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I stayed here one night on the way down to Melbourne. The place is getting a bit long in the tooth, but it was very cheap ($100) and the lady checking in was casual as they come, which suited us. The motel has all the basics for a traveler needing to rest and it is clean. Head in to Bendigo if you need food, shops or a restaurant.

Our NFP charity needed a function room to deliver a 2 day training course for 20ppl with food. The room was big and comfortable, and morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea were delicious and plentiful. I have already booked another training session there.
Staff friendly and helpful with every request. I didn't stay there, but one of our participants did, and she said it was clean, comfortable and quiet.
All this, as well as ample parking, made it a winner for us !

I stayed at the Golden Hills Motel for a week at the end of April 2016 for work purposes. The bathroom had just been renovated the week before (renovations were really modern and aesthetically pleasing) was a MAJOR improvement on the old bathrooms (I was shown one of the older bathrooms still to be renovated)
Location is quite good, 100m from a service station, 40m from a bus stop, and 300m from a restaurant/pub/TAB.
I found the management were really friendly, and willing to help with any problem i had from bus timetables to calling cab services. Management, after a few short chats, showed me a lot pf knowledge about bendigo, and the certain attractions that I could go see in my spare time. I found this really impressive.

Rooms kept tidy each day by housekeeping. Although was not vaccuumed. As part of my work i tend to tread in a lot of assorted things on the bottom of my shoes. And as a mid 20s male that isnt entirely housebroken, quite the messy eater.

2.5km from bendigo town central. It is walkable, but youll probably be walking for a near an hour.
Luckily bus is across the road, and cab ride is only 10ish dollars.

All in all, a really enjoyable stay.
Really helpful and knowledgable management. Fair pricing. And fairly easily accessible spot.

Would stay here again

The words that should be said about the old male manager are to rude to type. He is one horrible rude nasty man,To simplify this review...he has a master key to yr room, don't stay at this run down 100.00 a night grotville. He has intentionally closed the pool so certain customers can't use it,so every customer misses out.Nothing good here, keep looking.

Response from Mark H, Manager at Golden Hills Motel
Responded 16 Sept 2017
You illegally stayed with us when your homeless friend was placed at this property by a welfare agency. Your friend was given a room just for her then you stayed in the room with her. When I had your friend removed by the police you said you would get me and this review is your way of getting me back. Of course I have a master key, how do you think I get into the rooms to clean them? The swimming pool is closed during the colder months and only open during the warm months, but is only open to motel guests not their friends.

Zero value here. Stayed with husband and newborn (brought my own travelcot). Were not told prices at time of booking nor at check in. Motel located on outskits of bendigo, not near anything. Very tired rooms, stank of cigarettes and mould. Pillows were totally flat and only one each provided. Blanket on bed was filthy with various substances spilt on it.
Positives- larger room, contained a queen and single bed, plus room for cot and small table and chairs. Also had a microwave, small fridge and aircon.

$100 a night was just not worth it and glad we were staying only overnight. The room was small even for a motel, sufficient highway noise to be distracting, prickly staff, the bathroom door did not work, toilet paper was damp and the toilet itself had not been cleaned.

Only redeeming quality was that it is relatively close to the Gold Mines Hotel.

A lovely country motel with pleasant hosts! The bed was extremely comfortable and the room clean with biscuits, coffee, milk, etc. I would definitely stay again but one little thing would have made it nicer.... a stronger reading lamp beside the bed.
