Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

My wife and I stayed here one night on the way down to Melbourne. The place is getting a bit long in the tooth, but it was very cheap ($100) and the lady checking in was casual as they come, which suited us. The motel has all the basics for a traveler needing to rest and it is clean. Head in to Bendigo if you need food, shops or a restaurant.

A lovely country motel with pleasant hosts! The bed was extremely comfortable and the room clean with biscuits, coffee, milk, etc. I would definitely stay again but one little thing would have made it nicer.... a stronger reading lamp beside the bed.

Great room and very close to the new basketball stadium being built over the road. Plenty of parking and not far CBD and local attractions. Owners were very nice and helpful in making sure my stay was the best.

CAUTION CAUTION: STAY AWAY FROM THIS MOTEL. The most terrible experience of my life. AirCon or heater not working. Carpet disinfected with a terrible chemical whose strong, pungent and suffocating smell stays there for days to come. I could not sleep whole of the night due to (1) this strong pungent and suffocating smell of chemical in the room (2) Heater not working, the room was very cold (3) They wash blankets with the same chemical and same suffocating pungent smell was there in both the blankets. It was a shivering cold with snow on Victorian hills and I was without any heater or blanket with a hostile host. Rest you can imagine, what experience I have had with this motel. My accomodation was booked by my employer and I made a complaint about this motel at all levels of my organisation. I REMAINED SICK FOR MORE THAN 7 DAYS.

Response from Mark H, Manager at Golden Hills Motel
Responded 16 Sept 2017
The split system heater air conditioner works very well thank you. I set the heater for you , is it my fault that you played with the controls and stuffed up the settings? Our carpets are professionally cleaned, we have never had a complaint in the thirteen years we have been at this motel. I noticed that you did not complain about smells coming from the towels, bath mats, hand towels or face washers but they are washed with the same laundry detergent as the blankets. I am not a hostile host, I am a lovely old bloke.

We just spent another great night at the Golden Hills Motel. Taking our daughter and Grandchildren with us this time we booked 2 rooms with interconnecting door between. Lovely and warm with good heating and electric blankets. Comfy bed with spare pillows, blankets etc. it has everything we need and is really well priced. Fresh milk on check in and breakfast available if needed (we didn't but our friends did) We were there for the entertainment there in the evening in the function room and the meals at dinner were well priced. It's our 3rd visit and we will continue to return as it's very handy to everything we need.

Our NFP charity needed a function room to deliver a 2 day training course for 20ppl with food. The room was big and comfortable, and morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea were delicious and plentiful. I have already booked another training session there. Staff friendly and helpful with every request. I didn't stay there, but one of our participants did, and she said it was clean, comfortable and quiet. All this, as well as ample parking, made it a winner for us !
