I had booked to stay at Hotel Ernest as I had done numerous times for work trips to Bendigo, however this time around my client in Bendigo asked to reschedule my trip. As soon as I found out I contacted Hotel Ernest and Booking.com to cancel my booking 4 days before my arrival date. I was told it was non-refundable however I asked whether it was possible to get a credit instead to use for the next time I was in Bendigo. Booking.com told me to contact Hotel Ernest which I did numerous times, however no one would ever get back to me and just ignored me. I finally asked to speak with the owner and when he called me he was rude, treated me with contempt and was not willing to be flexible at all. I lost $300 for nothing and I can’t claim as a work expense so I’m out of pocket. I will never stay there again and I DO NOT recommend anyone to stay here.

We loved our stay. From the very warm welcome by Ella who gave us a history lesson of the building which was very informative to our very spacious room. We stayed in suite 6, which had a cute balcony, great kitchenette and a large bathroom. Double glazed windows resulted in the best sleep, no noise, comfortable bed and lovely linen. The Wine Bank is across the road, Bendigo gallery is a two minute walk, perfect location and great parking behind the hotel. Can’t wait to see the restaurant completed.

As seniors we decided to take advantage of our free train travel to Bendigo. We had a wonderful 24 hours and this hotel was one of the reasons why. It was very easy to access from the station and early check in started the day on a happy note. Suite 5 is advertised as one of their smaller offerings but it was perfect for us with a nice little balcony, huge bathroom with a free standing shower and a spa bath and a king size bed. The room was quiet and dark at night so we had a wonderful sleep. Some lovely touches - a coffee machine, cold water in the fridge, lovely artwork, thick towels and first class linen. The staff we came into contact with were lovely - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The hotel is very well positioned in View Street - close to the gallery and the excellent Ms Batterhams. Highly recommend.

From the moment I parked and walked into this beautiful hotel, I was warmly greeted and taken to our room, which was unbelievably lovely and grand. Beautifully decorated with huge windows that overlooked the lovely trees outside. I hear they are opening up a restaurant downstairs in January, so I’m excited for that to open. This is the nicest place I’ve stayed while in Bendigo.

The Ernest hotel has been restored with great taste, it has a hip vibe to all its rooms and foyer while still respecting the building’s past history. Oldest bank in Bendigo, with a restaurant to come. We will be back! Love love all the little details in the rooms and the eco approach with boutique toiletries. Very special stay

First the one (minor) downside - we’d booked breakfast, but due to various delays with permits and licensing they weren’t able to provide breakfast. Fortunately there are plenty of excellent places nearby. They are hoping to have everything set up in the very near future. The building is an old bank, and as a heritage building no major changes to the building are allowed, so there is no lift. There is still the vault, set up as a reading room, and a bullet hole in a window where a policeman took a pot shot at a bank robber in the 1880s. Each of the rooms/suites is very different, with each featuring the art of a particular artist. We had the top floor corner room, which looked out over the main street and park. The slightly unusual feature of the room was that it features a spa bath in the corner of the very large bedroom. The bed was extremely comfortable, there is ample parking space for cars (not that we had one), and the toiletries in the bathroom are very good. The hotel is nicely placed in the centre of town, close to some excellent restaurants. They also leave unoccupied rooms open so that guests can go in and look at the different at works.

The Bendigo Ernest Hotel is small, but it is very comfortable. The hotel has been created from the Bendigo branch of the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney, a heritage building some 5 minutes walk from the center of this provincial city. The deluxe accommodation is complemented by the luxurious foyer. Dining facilities and a bar will come on-stream in October 2023. The Ernest Hotel is an esteemed addition to Bendigo's accommodation offering.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel as part of a family celebration. The hotel is centrally situated in Bendigo and close to the Art Gallery which we were keen to explore . The gallery is very well appointed and current exhibitions did not disappoint. Our suite (#9 of ten suites) was very comfortable in all respects, decorated with interesting works of art. While on the main street, double glazed windows maintained a quiet environment. We enjoyed off street parking, quite useful in a busy place like Bendigo. Unfortunately, the hotel has no kitchen functioning at present however there are plenty of breakfast and dining options nearby. We understand a kitchen installation is on the drawing board. The owner and staff were extremely helpful and we were thoroughly satisfied with our stay.

Ernest Hotel is situated right in the centre of Bendigo so it's a great location and there's free car parking available for guests which is good. The welcome we received was excellent and the quality of the rooms is very high. However, it's not really an hotel. There's no bar, no restaurant and if you want breakfast you have to order it 24 hours in advance which they don't warn you about in the welcome emails. I got the impression they don't actually want to provide breakfast. Given its location it's easy to find somewhere for dinner and breakfast nearby (Alium across the road was a very good dinner venue) but Ernest is really only somewhere to sleep. A very good place to sleep but not an hotel.

This hotel is seriously stunning. There is not much more you could ask for in a room when travelling as a couple. The bed is big, comfy and made with beautiful linen bedding. There was plenty of space to put our bags and items of clothing. The entire building smells incredible as soon as you walk in. The staff upon check in and check out were so lovely, we had a tour of the old bank vault and it didn’t feel like a transaction, more of a “welcome, we’re so glad you’re here”. The chilled water in the fridge was especially nice after getting back from a wedding. This will be the first place I look for availability if I need to stay in the area again.
