Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The bed was comfortable. The air con was quiet. The shower is small. WiFi network didn't show up so I messaged the proprietor as there's no staff on-site. He showed up prompty, took my phone outside the unit (no.1) whereupon the network appeared, put in the password and handed me back the phone stating it works then left. Inside the unit it was useless - not good enough.

Sorry to say the beds are so uncomfortable. very outdated rooms the shower didn't drain very well otherwise ok you can her lots of traffic as the motel is on the corner next to petrol station. Ok if your on a budget my experience was very easy they sent you a key code so that way no person to person was needed

I spent two nights at the Elm Motel in June 2023 as part of a business trip to the region. This is a simple motel but one which shows evidence of recent renovations and redesign in the rooms. Everything was clean and functional, including the bathroom. The check in process is entirely automated, using a code sent before arrival via SMS, and with a numerical code instead of a key to enter the rooms. I found the traffic noise a little disturbing as the motel is right on the highway which runs through the centre of Bendigo. I'd suggest requesting a room further away from the road. But for a short stay in town, this motel did its job well.

The Motel room was clean, comfortable and modern, interesting feature- a code is needed to put into the door to get into your room ( No key). Had a cosy feeling but the bathroom was very tiny and the dishes, cups and glasses you had to wash yourself in the bathroom sink no room service as per say as far as that is concerned. There is a certain amount of trust in the previous guest to do the right thing I guess. On the Monday morning a male Room attendant came to rouse you out to make sure you were out by 10 a.m, and also to clean the rooms. This Motel is a good place to lay your head for the night and for a single traveller on their own. The shower needs a lot to be desired as it is tiny and the shower door just opens enough to be able to get inside and you have to step down to get in to the recess and step up to get out. The owners have done a nice job to renovate the rooms, but with no Front Office person on site it is a bit disconcerting.

Service /staff review. I booked and paid for a room late after hours while traveling and the lady quickly organised a room which we so appreciaed. Wonderful service ! within the next hour after booking we had to cancel due to an unexpected sudden family crisis. The lady i spoke to was very understanding and we promptly received a refund .

I loved that this place had a code for the door rather than a key. The code is texted to you so you don’t have to worry about forgetting it (or losing a key!). The rooms were very spacious. Only deducting a star because when trying to find the motel at night it was difficult because the sign was not lit up and it is on a busy road making it difficult to slow down to find the motel. Also, places like this really do need to stop people smoking just outside their rooms. The smell wafts in to all the nearby rooms, even with doors and windows shut. It's not just the disgusting smell, people underestimate the dangers of passive smoking.

The keypad for the door wouldn’t work properly, there were ants on the floor when we walk in. The bed was not comfortable at all. The bathroom was clean but very old and worn. It said it was a non smoking motel but the whole place stank of cigarettes. Definitely not the best value for money at all.

Room is scrupulously clean, thank you. It’s also very cramped. There isn’t space in the bathroom to hang a bath mat, hand towel and two bath towels. There is nowhere but the floor for toiletries in the shower. It’s noisy. The bed was so hard that it was impossible to sleep. And I have never stayed in a motel where there is a notice to clean one’s own crockery. I’m always careful to cause as little mess as possible in a hotel/motel, but I know the charge includes cleaning, so why exclude crockery? Never, ever again!!!!! Two stars only for cleanliness.

The Good: Clean, comfortable beds and very good WiFi. The Bad: Noisy location and the blind does little to stop light streaming in from the servo next door - but these are the sorts of things you forgive because it's cheap. The Ugly: Since COVID, we've seen many responsible service providers commit to higher standards of hygiene and also to maintain these standards after the lockdown to ensure our safety. The sign on the bathroom mirror telling us to wash our hands suggests that The Elm is one of those responsible organisations. Immediately below this sign however, is another telling us to wash our own dishes - and another below the television which threatens extra charges if you do not comply with their instructions. This means that The Elm has no control of the level of hygiene in the crockery and utensils and we have no idea who washed them and how they were washed. The very first item I took from the cupboard was a spoon that looked like a Petrie dish with something nasty growing in it! Although we are theoretically entering a post-COVID period, this and the fact that the artificial floor-boards were quite filthy is far below the standard we expect in 2021. Our stay made me want to go and get tested again.
