Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed a night in a Deluxe Room in Hermitage House. The room was huge, as was the bathroom, and had expansive views out over the vineyards, as well as some of the glamping tents in among the eucalypts and passing kangaroos at dusk. Our stay included a free wine tasting at the cellar door, covering most of Balgownie's extensive range. We also dined in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast - both of which were very good. A relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Lovely setting but the 54.00 platter was really poor value. More like 30.00. Let’s hope when inflation comes down yr not charging same Would be nice to see that happen but I doubt it. Post Covid for business is tough but dont rip off the punters

Quiet and blissful location overlooking the winery being 15-20mins away from the city centre. We liked the balance and mix of homestead and glamping without feeling over commercialised. Great to have the community kitchen which was clean and well equipped. Seeing the family of kangaroos, bird wildlife, winery with the solar panels farm and wind mills on the side was a nice touch. We stayed at the Homestead Queen which was nice, spacious and warm. We may try glamping next time!

Absolutely fantastic service from extraordinary staff. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and all the dishes were scrumptious and beautifully presented. Wine tasting was intimate, good fun and provided great detail on the wines we were interested in. The cottage we stayed in was spotless ,comfortable, modern and well presented. Enjoyed the walking track around the winery and shobrt drive to Bendigo the next day to have a look around. We loved our little get away.

We dropped in to taste and buy some wine. The server at teh tasting was very friendly and knowledgeable. A great range of wines to be tasted. We bought quite a few, very good wines. We had a light lunch on the deck, over looking the fields, very pleasant very enjoyable.

Just had one of the best lunches ever at this lovely winery. Having visited dozens of wineries through the world- this rates as one of my favourites. Why - it’s totally unpretentious. Excellent food, excellent wine and the staff, without exception we’re totally professional, courteous and caring. A real treat to be at Belgownie on our final day of our break in Australia. Thank you all for a wonderful experience.

We highly recommend the restaurant offerings and reasonably priced at 85$ pp for 3 courses. The tents were clean and comfortable. The AC unit was a welcome addition during our hot trip. The 2.5km walk around the winery was a nice way to finish off the evening. Unfortunately the let down was close proximity of tents and noisey neighbours. We politely spoke with them to no avail and the reception staff member neither acknowledged, validated or dealing with the issue.

We received a glamping weekend as a wedding gift and we were blown away at how comfortable the glamping tent was. Unfortunately we had to walk about 100m to the toilet/shower but it was spectacular if you had to visit at sunrise because you not only got to see the sun but you encountered the kangaroos grazing. The restaurant was excellent

Attended this venue for a well needed girls' day out. It's a very beautiful setting and delicious wines, it's just a shame the service was very poor. It was very apparent that the venue was short staffed. Waiting longer than usual for service in these circumstances can be expected and understood. However, on this occasion, the minimal serviced received was very rude, and we were treated more as an inconvenience rather than paying guests. It's such a shame, as the setting is beautiful and a great location.

I arranged for a large group of us to visit on Monday 19th December and as soon as I had to deal with the events team prior to our visit our customer experience went down the drain. The communications I had with Lucy, hadn’t been passed on to Sheena. Lucy had mysteriously vanished and I had repeatedly contacted her only to have Sheena eventually respond demanding a deposit for dinner, she repeatedly called me, even on my wedding day asking for payment. I had let everyone know our timings, reason for travel and when I would and wouldn’t be available. At the start of the week before my wedding I had sent a note to Lucy explaining I needed clarity on a couple of things by certain dates as it was a busy time for me. We had planned for a group from our wedding party and guests to visit after the wedding. Lucy had originally asked for upfront payment which seemed odd, I asked if I could split into groups several times only to be ignored and then contacted by Sheena who requested 20%. This is all fine, but if I’d had upfront communications from the begging that would have been much better. I had also arranged with Lucy and Sheena for a group wine tasting, this was over the phone and on email. When we arrived we were rudely greeted by Alan who had no recollection of any booking. He didn’t seem impressed at all that he had to serve a group, despite there being no other guests and no other bookings. I had to go and get Sheena from reception to speak with him and explain we had agreed this over the phone and on email. She turned up with an awkward grin on her face, only for them to have some odd exchange and both of them rolling their eyes at each other, like we were the inconvenience. During the wine tasting, Alan rushed around pouring the wine and did not once mention anything about it and kept missing people out. Despite this we bought several bottles after and then without any warning he closed up and locked the doors on us. Thank goodness our experience at dinner was better, Liam and the other waiting staff are amazing. The food was also incredible and rivals some of the top restaurants I’ve visited. Well done to the kitchen team and Liam, if it wasn’t for you and those kangaroos, we’d have little positive things to say. In the morning there was once again confusion about breakfast, Tamara the waitress sent my sister in law away saying there wasn’t a booking. She was also rude to a friend of mine who was staying with us, because we hadn’t booked. There wasn’t a booking as this had never been explained or upsold to anyone upon booking nor when we checked in. We all stayed the night and had hoped for breakfast, my husband called the restaurant from the tent to book a table for us as it was easier than asking for a table in person. Finally, when I checked in the holding deposit was actually debited from my account t instead of held. It was a mistake, but on top of everything else it was just another thing that added to the shambolic service. I received a phone call whilst driving home, I was hoping to never have to speak to a anyone from there again, but had Amber asking me for my bank details because of her error. This could have been resolved when I was checking in or out, in person. All in, our group would have bought a decent amount of business to Balgownie on what would have been a very quite day/ evening for them. We would have spent circa $5k and it’s incredibly disappointing to receive such bad service. If this business didn’t have the fabulous surroundings, wildlife, fabulous kitchen staff and Liam, they would fail. Your events team need to learn to communicate better with the wine tasting and reception and ask your customers if they’re staying the night, do they want breakfast. We had previously stayed back in February and I remember the wine tasting being average but everything else was fine, plus our booking included breakfast. It’s fair to say, we won’t bother again in the future and neither will anyone else that was part of our group.
