If you’re looking for a clean and comfortable motel room, which is conveniently located, I’d highly recommend Sovereign Park Motor Inn. I stayed there for a week long trip and was very impressed with everything.

In terms of furniture, it has the usual amenities one would expect in a motel. The chairs, couch and Queen size bed were all extremely comfortable. Bathrooms were very clean and modern with a great shower and plentiful hot water.

The staff were the other thing that I liked most about the motel: everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Whether it was assistance in working the TV, setting the air conditioner or requesting extra provisions, the staff were prompt to provide assistance and nothing was too much trouble. Julie was particularly diligent about asking if I needed anything else. Louisa also displayed excellent local knowledge and recommended a couple of wonderful local eateries, including Kambei.

With regard to the staff, I’d also like to compliment them on something else: the housekeeping staff went out of their way to make rooms up according to personal preferences. Case in point: I removed the doona and most of the covers on the bed due to tendency to get hot easily. I use a cooling blanket (self supplied because I can’t sleep without it) which I forgot to put away. Whoever serviced my room made up the bed with my cooling blanket (leaving the motel covers in the corner where I put them) and used the pillow I brought from home. I really appreciated this personal touch.

Other items that made me happy with the motel:

- On site pub, which does breakfast, lunch and dinner

- Option of room service and breakfast packs available for purchase

- Indoor play area for children - this was far enough away from motel rooms that I wasn’t disturbed by screaming kids but also on site. Having play areas also meant that there weren’t kids running around in the parking lot and potentially causing accidents.

Having changed my booking to this motel from a nearby alternative, I was struck by all the reviews outlining how friendly and helpful the front of house staff were. Maybe I caught them on a bad day as my experience was anything but friendly and bordering rude.

The facilities, room, location etc, is all great, can't fault them, particularly for an 'out of town' stay. Having seen reviews I expected to experience exceptional front of house service, but unfortunately, more than once it fell short:

1. Having asked for some additional pool towels on the morning after arrival (the old ones having been used the night before and still wet hung in bathroom), I was told 'we don't have many pool towels so you are supposed to dry your original ones in the guest laundry and use them again'. Fabulous advice, if only they had told me this when giving me the towels then I would have willingly and gladly obliged. As I wasn't told, was I supposed to guess this is the policy? I was spoken to like I was an idiot for not knowing this.

2. After getting said new towels, I went and grabbed the old towels and put them in the guest laundry (in case we needed them again). We didn't need them again but remembering a couple of hours later that they were still in the dryer at the guest laundry, I went to retrieve them to leave them in the room for housekeeping. When I got to the guest laundry Housekeeping were there and asked if I needed new towels. I replied that I was checking out soon and was just retrieving the towels I had put in the dryer. Housekeeping politely told me I could just leave them where they were and they will put with all other laundry. Great.

I then went to check out and advised front desk (same person) that the 'other' pool towels were in the guest laundry after being advised to leave them there. Again, I was met with a response of thinking I am an idiot advising 'you can't leave them in the dryer as we have to wash them for the next guests'. To which I responded 'yes I am well aware of this, hence why I asked your Housekeeping if they wanted me to take them back to the room and they told me no'. I then asked front desk if they would like me to go back to the laundry, take them out and put them back in the room and was told no.

A couple of lessons here for feedback:

1. Don't treat every guest like an idiot. You may get some idiots staying with you, I'm not one of them and resent being spoken to like one.

2. If you have specific policies or asks of guests, make them clear at check-in or on the booking. Set expectations, it's far easier for all.

It's a shame one individual can sour a stay. I would recommend the rooms and the facilities, just a shame I didn't get the service to match. Here's hoping it was a one off!

Thank you for your feedback. It's pleasing to read that you can't fault our facilities, rooms and location. On the other hand, it's unfortunate to hear that your conversation with a staff member seems to have been misinterpreted. We're very proud of offering complimentary swimming pool towels to every guest as well as complimentary guest laundries including washing powder. We hope that this misunderstanding doesn't deter you from staying with us again in future.

Clean and comfortable with excellent amenities. The family love the pool and sauna, games room is spacious, well kept and has something for everyone. The staff are all lovely and always willing to help. The red lion restaurant that's attached is great value for money with a great menu, and location is perfect you're only 5 minutes from sovereign hill and the city centre.

Loved the pool/spa/sauna area. It is an excellent facility and one of the best I've ever seen in a hotel. The pool has a section long enough to do decent laps, plus a shallow area for small children, and 2 seperate spa sections. Water temperature and room was warm and comfortable. There is also a large volleyball court, pool tables, and a very well appointed gym. I chose this hotel myself based on reviews of it's indoor pool and I made a good choice for other reasons as well.
The room is stylish and contemporary in design and is a large room with a sofa, desk and a small table and chairs. Outside the door is an outdoor setting with a privacy screen. Our room had a large spa bath, though we never had time to use it.
The hotel is attached to The Red Lion Ballarat, a pub and dining venue which is very popular with the locals, and you can't go past just walking through the back door into there for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The size of the meals are huge. And my husband was very happy to discover the Carlton Draught Tank Beer on tap, as he hadn't seen such a set up before and was happy it was a nice beer.
Whether you stay here as it is close to the Sovereign Hill tourist park, or happy to drive the less than 5 minutes into Ballarat Central, you couldn't find much better than here.

We stayed here for 2 nights while on our road trip through Victoria and booked this accommodation by phone and got a good tariff for the deluxe twin room.

The room was very clean and comfortable. There was good quality crockery, cutlery, and tea coffee supplies for breakfast.

The motel was fully booked with helicopter pilots and firies staying there at the time of bush fire emergency west of Ballarat.

Reception staff were well informed of the fire situation and briefed us on the road to take for our onward journey to the Great Ocean Road. A truly memorable stay. Recommend highly.

I stayed here with my 8yo daughter while competing at an athletics meet nearby (very handy 5 min walk). The facilities are brilliant. We spent hours in the amazing pool and spas, followed by the games room and pickle ball. The restaurant onsite (with kids playground) served tasty and generous meals, and staff there went above and beyond to deliver a great dining experience. The hotel staff were equally wonderful and genuinely cared about our experience. We returned again in Winter (this time with more families) and will be back again later this year. Do yourself a favour and check this place out :)

I’m thrilled with this motel!
Super clean ✅
Pool 😍 ✅ (it’s better than some of the fancy hotels we’ve stayed at! And only 1metre deep so it’s very safe for kids)
Facilities ✅ ( games room, cafe, restaurant/bar… and it was packed with great vibes)
Staff ✅ Super friendly, efficient & helpful (Particularly Tim, thank you for your help)
Room has microwave, toaster, kettle, plates, cups, cutlery)
Room was left beautifully tidied and cleaned when we returned from a swim…
I honestly cannot fault this place. We will certainly be returning! Sooner rather than later!
Book direct instead of through a third party… they will beat any quote.
Thanks a million 😊

Organised a last minute stay with the family over the public holiday. Lovely little apartment with excellent facilities. Wonderful pool and sauna, great half court tennis court, pool table, foosball table, table tennis table and gym. We used it all! An added bonus there's a shower near the pool if you want to stay and play in the pool after check out time and the pressure of the shower is phenomenal! Staff were very friendly. Short drive to shops, the lake, kryal castle, the wildlife park etc. Definitely recommend

Firstly the pluses - it's lovely for families to stay at. The pool area is wonderful for kids and adults alike. There were also other activities - think I saw a pool table and table tennis table but daughter and I had a two and a half year old with us so we just kept to the pool area. The units were fantastic for families with a nice shower, toiletries etc and very comfortable. The Red Lion was next door for meals. Staff there were friendly and helpful as we had a toddler with us and the play area for kids was great!. Tiny grand daughter loved it. We did try eating at one other hotel that had tastier meals but the service was terrible so we had the rest of our meals at the Red Lion who treated us well.

The only negative for me was as an older person, it was hard to differentiate the edge of the ledge that separated the bricks on the path from the bricks on the car parking area as they looked the same . I had noted the ledge was there and remembered telling myself I had to watch out for that but yes, you guessed it - I had a bad fall as I forgot about it. The staff were fantastic and got me up as I couldn't get up myself . I was very grateful to them. Not the Motor Inn's fault, my fault, but I would suggest marking the edge perhaps with non slip paint and tape or something and a few signs around to warn people especially older people with bad eyesight like me as I would hate anyone else to have a similar fall. We spent four hours at the Urgent Care Clinic in Ballarat and then over 8 hours in the ED at Ballarat Hospital which was crowded with many people quite ill. To top it all off, due to having to take me to hospital, daughter caught a nasty gastro bug from the ED as a woman sitting next to her kept vomiting , daughter was dehydrated and off work for three days.

I'm still having ongoing treatment for the fall back home here in NZ. One of the staff told me she had taken a fall too on the ledge so it wasn't just me. Hopefully the motor inn will do some remedial work on this.

Apart from the fall - it was lovely. Hope this helps anyone planning a trip to Ballarat.

The room was great. Large room with separate bathroom and toilet. Looked newly renovated. The cleanliness was one of the best I've come across. The kitchenette was very useful. The microwave, fridge, sink, toaster, kettle, cups and plates and cutlery were all very clean and of good quality.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The heated swimming pool, spa, sauna and activities centre was great for our family.

They also have a very nice bar and restaurant on premises 'Red Lion'.

Overall couldn't ask for more. Great stay!

Absolutely. Free off street parking is available right in front of your room. If you are bringing more than one car just call them in advance and they will arrange a second car park for you.
