Unfortunately, the accessible room has inappropriate bathroom modifications. There is no grub rail in the shower, the toilet is low and the grub rail is at shoulder height when sitting. There is no accessible mirror in the unit. The shower taps are not great

Upon arrival we were greeted by staff whom appeared to be tired. Check-in was easy enough with the foyer neat and presented well. Upon going to the room found that it hadn't been cleaned to previous standards that we had experienced before with vacuuming not to standard along with hair left in the bathroom. The bed itself was comfortable but found the noise from outside loud on this occasion. Previous stays had been reasonably quite. I do think that the bathrooms need to be updated with the step in bath/shower awkward for people with injuries and the water pressure limited. We had breakfast and the staff were great and the breakfast was nice, though do miss the buffet, but understand with covid playing it's part. Location is reasonable though due to the noisy room and outdated bathroom may look elsewhere for more suitable room.

I recently stayed at this hotel to break up the drive between Mount Gambier in South Australia and Mornington in Victoria. I was travelling on my own with a young child at night.
I arrived at 8:15pm on a dark, very wet evening. Upon check in I explained we would be staying for 1 night only although I had booked for two nights. At the time of booking I wasn’t able to book anything less than 2 nights as I was advised that Ballarat was busy due to a long weekend. (I had called every hotel in the area several weeks before and this was literally the only hotel room in the area that didn’t require me to book for 3 nights so I took it) I asked if we could get something to eat in the restaurant (I had checked when I booked the room that there was a restaurant knowing we would be arriving late, tired and hungry). The lady on reception said no, they were really quiet so the kitchen had already closed (although the restaurant is supposed to be open until 9pm and the hotel was very busy). She suggested I get back in my car and drive to KFC in town ! I asked if the kitchen could make anything at all for us to eat but she said no ! She did however say we could purchase breakfast for the next morning at $18 each which we did ! She said, you are lucky you only have to pay for 2 nights because our policy this weekend is 3 night bookings. I thought at that point she was going to ask me to pay for 3 nights ! She also said, I can see you’ve struggled with your luggage but you need to put it all back in your car as all our rooms are some distance away from reception. She provided us with a map to find our room. The car park is very badly lit and signposted (especially in the rain) so it took us several attempts to actually find our block with our room. The room itself was small but adequate. Comfortable bed and pillows and a great bathroom and shower. Next morning at 7 am we packed our car up and drove to breakfast as we needed to get on the road early so I wanted to check out quickly. The lady checking you in for breakfast said I wasn’t on the breakfast list as having paid so said I needed to pay $28 for breakfast. I explained that I had already paid. She said I hadn’t so said “go over there, (waiving her arm at reception) and sort it out”. There was a very helpful guy on reception who confirmed I had paid and could have breakfast. He explained where we could sit and that it was self service. Breakfast itself was great. Lots of choices of both hot and cold food with fruit and pastries. All served buffet style. Great as we hadn’t eaten since lunch time the previous day. Upon checkout I asked what time the Azzuri Restaurant closed in the evening and I was told 9pm ish (which is what is advertised) . I explained what had happened the previous evening and the guy on reception apologised and said that was rather early to have closed. Check out was easy. Very helpful staff on reception that morning.

This is the worst accommodation experience we have had so far in travelling.
We booked a lodge room with one king bed for a stopover, and upon check-in, we were given room 78, which turned out to be a small "dungeon" room with tall walls on all sides except for a row of small low windows at the ceiling line along one wall, with absolutely NO view of the outside unless one is over 2m tall, at the end of a damp smelling corridor, and without the chairs and coffee table depicted in the photos of the lodge room.
We went back to the reception and demanded for the lodge room with one king bed matching the photos of the lodge room on their website and on our reservation, which we eventually were given room 90, but without any explanations and apology for the earlier "dungeon" room. Nevertheless, room 90 has a large wheelie bin for general waste outside one of its windows beside its door but at least is matching the photos of the lodge room on their website. BUT why would anyone place a large garbage wheelie bin outside a guest room beside the guest room window!!!
Upon checkout, I was told the "dungeon" room 78 was meant to be my room upgrade benefit to a Superior Room since I am a gold member of Accor Live Limitless, which is even more shocking. How would anyone classify such a "dungeon" room with less fittings a Superior Room! If such is the standard of a Superior Room at this place, one should really think twice before booking a Superior Room at this place.
Absolutely unbelievable treatment for a gold member of Accor Live Limitless, if this is really what they call VIP treatment of Accor Loyalty Member at this motel.

See my photos and check other reviews both recent and much older. It indicates that these issues are acknowledged by management with apologies etc but the same issues continue. We did not have any problems with staff. Interesting though, on checkout no feedback was asked for. My wife and I don’t recommend this expensive venue. We stayed n an adjoined apartment with a covered carport. The car space was still minimal and could easily be struck by a car door from the other carport. All outside car parks showed minimal space between cars. Our entrance door mat had tooth floss on it and leaves and dirt imbedded that had not been cleaned in a very long time if ever. The inside entrance was all a hard floor with a small lip to trip over going into the bathroom area immediately to your right. The decor was in need of an upgrade as it looked and felt like it was out of the 70’s. The main room light was the same design as a house I owned in that era. The two hardwood ornate carved chairs would have looked and felt more comfortable if they had been reupholstered. There was very little cushion within the leather covering due to its age. The small stone/marble coffee table had cup stains that obviously had not been wiped clean. The king size bed was very springy with the weight of only 75kg. The small fridge had ice built up in the small freezer area and had one complimentary small uht milk carton. The main area that concerned us both was the bathroom. Fortunately, the toilet itself was clean and dual flush. The outside windows luckily had fly screens which had a great number of spider webs built up. The look was not comfortable. Much of the tile grout (floor, walls, shower recess) needed a very good clean especially in areas that would get more moisture build up. The corroded old metal shower recess plug hole had a broken sharp section. Not good if you dropped your wedding ring or it caught your toe. There were spider webs under the basin area and the door stop which should have been white was filthy. Glad we stayed only the one night for such an exclusive and expensive Mercure. I also had a cursory look at the buffet breakfast on offer at high cost. The range of selection that we’ve experienced at other similar venues are much more generous. Overall not impressed. Obviously, a lot of money needs to be spent on upgrading the venue and apart from what my wife and I experienced there are many reviews that indicate upgrades are not happening. How 4.5 star ratings apply to this venue is very surprising.

I booked accommodation over the phone with Sharon and asked for a minimum of at least double bed size, she said only the apartments had this so reluctantly booked that. On arrival we were given a room with a King bed and in the other room 2 single beds. We had to phone to have this changed and that was done. The TV was from the dark ages and no Foxtel except Fox news. We were told they are in the process of changing them but don't charge a premium rate for a dated apartment.Covid was used as the excuse for no tourist information or aircon instructions. Filthy Airconditioners in all rooms.Badly stained coffee table and a faulty chair in the room. So many things I could say but sadly not enough room here. We paid an additional $36 per person for breakfast for 2 mornings and the breakfast on the first day was cold, supposed to be a hot buffet but nothing was hot. I told a waitress and she told me it was because I made a cup of tea, seriously?? We were assisted by a waiter and told the next day's breakfast would be credited. On checkout I queried and was told it had been done which was impossible as they didn't have our credit cards. A 'refund' was supposedly processed and I was given paperwork and when I got home I noticed it said $30 which is incorrect and it hasn't appeared on my credit card as yet. This apartment was way overpiced and a throw back to the 80's, very disappointed as we could have got accommodation elsewhere for a much better price. You need to lift your game

Response from Simon Monk, General Manager at Mercure Ballarat Hotel and Convention Centre
Responded 20 Feb 2022
Dear Catbar57, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. It is disappointing to read that your specific bedding request had not been communicated properly and apartment allocated accordingly. New larger smart TVs are being installed to the apartments in the coming weeks and we are waiting on delivery of new furniture. Once these apartments have been updated we will review the pricing structure and increase accordingly. Your comments regarding breakfast have been shared with our team for review. Regards, Simon We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of.

I am an Accor Member & have stayed at many Mecure Hotels . Mecure Ballarat was very disappointing. The heating was insufficient it got to minus 1 degrees while I was there yet the heater was on 25 & was so cold in my room ! I wasn't told reception was contactable 24 hours so I just suffered . There were no teaspoons for the tea & coffee making . The beds were so soft & uncomfortable. The bathroom water was accidently spilt on the floor so I used a towel to clean it & the towel was brown ?! There was a unpleasant smell in the room not a clean fresh smell. Buffet breakfast was very low quality food ran out & was not replaced quickly when asked why the staff said they had many people without bookings ? But that does not explain no cups for the juice . I spoke to reception about all this they offered me free drink cards ?!!! I said I prefer my money back for the room lady said sorry can't do that . I left digusted . Very Disappointed

This place used to have a good reputation. I stayed two nights. I could probably have asked for another room but chose not to because of inconvenience of repacking. I left notes with the receptionist when I checked out. Compliments to the housekeeping staff! The room was perfectly clean as far as their responsibility extended. The security catch had been pulled away from the door frame and was dangling from the door - so useless and untidy. A QR code sticker was half pulled off the bedside table, looking really scruffy. A puncture mark in the bedroom side of the bathroom door and paint peeling off the back of the bathroom door. The bath base had lost some of its coating. The bathroom floor tile grout ranged in colour from original cream to very grimy looking grey. The room was COLD. Heating on 30 and boost when I was there and I turned it down to 25 when I went out. At no point over the two days did I feel warm, even wearing two woolen tops - refused to wear my raincoat or hat inside. I had the spare blanket over my knees to read sitting in a chair. I was grateful I'd brought a hot water bottle. I wouldn't stay at this hotel in cold weather again. I was advised that a "Superior" room in a different area of the hotel might be warmer. Heating costs and energy use must be huge! ALL / Accor Live Limitless member.

We checked in and were greeted by a very pleasant young lady. That’s where the positives ended! Upon entering our room, we noticed that the curtains were being held together with a bulldog clip. Really not 4.5-star standard. We asked for it to be fixed but it never was. Next morning, I went down to breakfast, it was $26 for full breakfast which didn’t seem unreasonable, so I went with that. The Latte from the machine tasted of a sweet something not sure what it was but it wasn’t coffee! I politely complained to the person in charge and was told that’s how it is and if I wanted a ‘proper’ coffee I needed to pay extra! (On top of the $26). The Bain Marie was a horror story all by itself. Mr Minit could have used the bacon to sole shoes it was so hard. The scrambled eggs and sausages were cold and inedible. I ended up having toast (no sourdough or Rye) and mushrooms for my $26. I reported my experience to reception who dutifully took my name and room number but no follow-up and no apology. Upon checking out, (8:30 a.m.) I asked to speak briefly to the Duty Manager to explain the issues. I was told there was NO manager in the entire building. Says a lot! Perhaps the property needs a new set of eyes. We expected much better from an ACCOR hotel.

We just stayed at this place for1 night coming to a wedding and booked the 2 bedroom Mews apartment at a high price and I found the place with bugs, small beetles, flies dead and alive, and the worst thing was when we went to bed there were ants under our pillows!!! The kitchen is very outdated and dark, install a few more lights please. No ice in freezer section, one of the blinds upstairs was totally gone. The heater in master bedroom didn't work and I froze all night long, didn't get much sleep at all. I did report all this to Catherine at reception when paying our bill overnight ($322 pn) !I would consider staying somewhere else.
