Detailed Reviews
My wife and I recently spent three nights at Ballarat Central CIty Motor Inn in an upstairs queen room. The motel is in a great location on the edge of Ballarat's CBD and is an easy walk into the CBD and to supermarkets. There is a great view from the balcony looking towards Sturt Street.
Check in was quick and easy, and the owners are very friendly and happy to give advice on things to see and do in Ballarat. The room is relatively large and the bed was comfortable. The room includes a microwave, cutlery and plates and while a tea towel and cloth is provided there was no dishwashing detergent. The motel still provides individual shampoo and soap rather than dispensers. A guest laundry is available and the owners will do your washing for a nominal charge of $5. The motel has a small indoor heated pool but unfortunately we did not have time to try it.
One thing for guests in upstairs rooms to note is that the edges of the stairs can be slippery.
At $143/night we thought Ballarat Central Motor Inn is excellent value and we would be very happy to return.

I was very happy with the service we were provided. It seemed that nothing was to much trouble for the staff and a continental breakfast was included.the price was reasonable, and I was happy that all rooms were ground rooms. We had a room with disabled facilities. I would recommend this as a place to stay for a family or anyone that wants a nice cozy place to stay. The indoor heated pool was a bonus for my son as it was a basketball tournament weekend and gave him a little relaxation for his body. Thank you for making us stay a very pleasant one

If I could give 10/5 I would. Shane the manager was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, so was able to recommend where to eat and where to visit.
The room was lovely it had everything you need for a few days , a table to have your meals and lounge chairs to read or watch tv .the kitchenette had a kettle micro wave and a toaster plus cutlery , glasses , mugs and plates. A very spacious bathroom . Very clean and modern.
It was so central you could walk to most places in the cbd.

+1
Upon entering our room it seemed nice ...but the further we got in the worse it got. The bathroom was pretty modern but the dust and hair from previous people over the floor to the mould in the shower was just gross. The air con unit above the bed was just full of dust and dirt on the carpet wasn't vacuumed for god knows how long even old food on the floor in one of the rooms. Broken bin in our room which was meant to be replaced the next day and wasn't. The mould was so thick along the windows in the room it was actually growing absolutely disgusting ! Old hand prints along the splash backs in the kitchen along with dirt / dust. Turn the light on and lots of old dead bugs in the light cover. Mould actually growing along the window ledges The balcony was just full of cob webs and spiders and just never cleaned. We did bring this up with Shane ( owner ) as soon as we arrived and noticed this. He actually and came up and vacuumed and wiped over a few things him self. There was no offer of a discount or change of room at all until we asked. That's when Shane's wife came up and well.... I have never met someone so rude and self entitled in my life , not only did she not want to know about how dirty the room was she wouldn't let you speak and would just talk over the top of you ! We came to the deal of a discount for one night a very little one at that, and to send the cleaners in the next morning to rectify this . After our family day out and walking back into the room my partner and I just looked at each other and didn't know if to laugh or cry ! They attempted to clean ( again ) obviously didn't look around or check before walking out as there was dry mud off their shoes on the carpet and as for the rest of the cleaning apart from a new sanitary wrap over the toilet we could not see one bit of difference! We had the heat pump on and there was actual dust flying out of it ..we opened up the vent where the filters are and wow they were fully covered and hadn't been cleaned for an extremely long time . It was late when we got back from our family day out and waited until the next day to discuss this further and the owner sally I think her name was , did not care one little bit and again talked over the top of me to the point of raising her voice and getting very angry...over something that wasn't our fault An absolute joke is an understatement. We could NOT tell people to stay away from this place enough if we tried. Our first time to Ballarat and just from this experience alone we will not be coming back !

room 13 was a disgrace .curtians off hooks, side tables were flat packs and the tops were chipped ,broken and flaking, hunks of plaster and paint missing from the wall ,bed side lights not working ,tiles in bathroom were cracked and dirty and hand basin taps had built up rust and muck around them. I would never stop there again. Always known as THE motel in ballarat to go to in my opion is nothing short of a disgrace, certainly not worth $150 .

Response from Salina Johnston, Owner at Ballarat Central City Motor Inn
Responded 25 Jan 2021
We would prefer if you reviewed the correct Motel. For starters we do not have a room 13. Next all rooms were all repainted late last year in 2020 along with the outside of the building including the sign. We also have never been known as THE motel in Ballarat. This is the Central City Motor Inn and you may have us mixed up with one with a similar meaning name. Please remove this review or we may have to take further action.

I can't recommend this motel enough. Having spent four nights, we truly felt as if we were staying with friends. Shane's customer service went above and beyond, the rooms were lovely, a high standard is met with a great cleaning crew. Nothing was too much trouble, the location is perfect, as well as the local knowledge of top picks for meals etc. Would be remiss of me not to mention Shane's amazing, scrambled eggs and bacon, a great way to begin your day. For me it's simple, break your trip or enjoy what Ballarat has to offer as there is no place like Central City Motor Inn.

I stayed at this hotel in April 2023 and it was nice.
The room was small, which made it feel a bit cramped, but it was very clean, which I appreciated.
The location was also great, situated in a nice area that made it easy to explore the surroundings.
One standout aspect was the staff—they were really courteous and went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed.
If you’re looking for a clean, conveniently located place with excellent service and don’t mind a smaller room, this hotel is a solid choice.

The motel is located in the city centre and is a walking distance to restaurants and the old city centre. The rooms are neat and comfortable. A special shout out to the host. Warm and welcoming, he made us feel at home. Our room had a nice balcony. The price seemed very reasonable as well.

Had a terrific couple of days at the Central City Motor Inn at Ballarat. Accommodation and facilities are excellent, Shane the owner was very obliging, and the site was close to many pubs, restaurants and shops. Well worth a visit!

The rooms are clean and spacious, with a queen and single bed provided it is a good set up for a family. We stayed one night after spending the day at Sovereign Hill.
Also has a small indoor heated pool, perfect for my son to swim around in.
Owners were welcoming, which topped off an enjoyable stay in Ballarat.
The following day we spent some time around the Lake and checked out the paddle boats and look out at the top of Mount Buninyong, which was another highlight for my son.
