We took our granddaughter away camping for 1st time to Windmill Holiday Park. The pool was cool enough to be refreshing on a 45 degree day. The large functional and very clean and inviting recreation room with lounge suite and tables and tv is adjacent to a communal kitchen, complete with microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle . The playground had interactive games for older kids and was close to the rec room. Free pancakes on Saturday morning was a treat. My granddaughter loved feding the chooks.

Wow! Thanks so much for the great feedback and review 187alano. It sounds like you and your granddaughter enjoyed a great holiday with us at The Windmill and took advantage of our facilities and activities. Our indoor pool has been brilliant for guests rain, hail or 45 degrees! Guests appreciate that it's protected from the harsh elements so you can enjoy a swim anytime. Our chooks are certainly a novelty. We're not aware of any other parks around the area that offer onsite chicken feeding. Great fun for kids and adults alike. We hope to welcome you back another time.

First time staying at the big 4 windmill. And our first trip in the caravan (22 foot
) . They have powered / unpowered site as well as a dog friendly spot to set up your van or tent. The staff were friendly and helpful. When we checked in the staff walked us around and showed us our spot. The area we had was a good. Trees for a bit of shade and next to your van area was a small concrete slab to set up your awning. This was our first trip in our van so not sure if other parks have the same set up but was very good to have to stop the mud coming into the van .
On this trip the grandkids came and the big 4 had plenty for them to do, a games room , heated pool, spa , playground and a balloon pillow jumping area. Also for 5 dollars you can hire a pedal go cart for the kids to ride around.
The toilets and shower areas were clean and in good condition, the grounds themselves were very well maintained
We joined the big 4 membership and saved 15 of the normal rate.
The park is about 10 minutes away from the middle of Ballarat so pretty good. There’s a Woolworths, McDonald’s, kfc 800 metres up the road.
Our overall experience was very good.

The thing I like the most about this caravan park is it's location. 200m to a shopping centre & in a quiet spot.
The only noises you will hear are the corellas when they return to the trees at night before they fall silent, the small planes from the airport & one distant noisy neighbour. None of these are huge factors.
Facilities are nice & clean, showers are hot, the pool/spa area superb & the camp kitchen sensational.
The only thing I hated was the filthy people who go to the toilet & dont flush or clean up their filth. Disgusting excuses for humans. None of this is the fault of the owners who leave them spotlessly clean every day.
Despite the heavy rain from a huge storm front, the water cleared away very quickly from the caravan sites which are quite spacious.
Would stay here again most definitely!

Caravan site with ensuite. Only 2 ensuite sites available. Reception polite and efficient, but seemed a little regimental during the check in process, I appreciate it's same job every day but without taking offence, relax and enjoy and the guests will do the same.
Ensuite a good size, needs a freshen up compared to the amenity facilities which are great. The park has nearly all the facilities and have a special itinery during the holiday period for the kids, very smart.
A new camp kitchen at the rear of the park, spotless, toaster, fridges, big sinks, stoves and more. Pull down blinds at the front open areas would be nice, on windy, cold, wet days very uncomfortable. The newish pool with cold and hot spa is fantastic, plus a wader pool for the youngies.
Roads are not made, some a little rough. Our caravan parking site (No 1) was far from level, maybe they could fix that or take your ramps, I "assumed" level, no ramps on board but was assisted with timber planks, much appreciated. The weather wasn't on our side but the park was comfortable.

We have made many improvements in the park in the last decade and plan many more while retaining that quiet bushy feel that guests enjoy. This park is truly dog friendly, you can book a caravan site that is fully fenced in so your dog can run around and you don’t have to stress about them escaping or annoying other campers. There is also some cabin options that have fenced in yards. Don’t be deterred is you don’t like dogs as there is no dogs running around or droppings laying around, the park is actually really clean and well presented. Our boys loved the free PS4 consoles set up in the game’s room. Also great camp kitchens.
A pleasure to stay at and an excellent way to camp with your furry friends.

Booked in to a cabin for 2 people and feel absolutely ripped off after paying $166.00 for one nights accommodation. The old and dated bathroom was so tiny that you literally couldn’t dry yourself. The bathroom was the width of the shower of around 90cm and the length of the bathroom was no more than 2 meters. The toilet was also squashed in with the bathroom basin. If you are a bigger person good luck trying to fit in and use this toilet.
The room itself was old and dated.
My husband and I travel a lot and have stayed in plenty of places and this is by far the worst.
Camping would be okay but that is all.
This cabin is worth no more than $80 a night.
Our money was taken from us off our credit card before arrival so we put up with it as it was only one night.
All we can say about this cabin is Yuk !!
And you should be ashamed at yourself for charging us this outrageous price for what you gave us...

We are disappointed to read your review 4mrsc. If we had known how dissatisfied you were with your Boronia studio, we would have recommended another cabin and relocated you immediately. The cabin you stayed in is one of our smaller studio type options. It does include a brand new king bed, but we offer eight different types of cabins ranging from entry-level to luxury three-bedroom, two-bathroom villas. We hope you will consider staying with us another time in beautiful Ballarat and suggest that one of our more spacious cabins could suit you better.

While I can't fault the customer service, the accomodation is beyond tired and overpriced for something so run down. The bed was like cardboard, with very thin blankets. Linen in not supplied for bunk beds even though you'll pay extra to use them - I'm not sure what the extra payment actually covers given there are no extra towels or linen provided. The couch in the room was filthy, as was the carpet. Thankfully we were travelling with our own crockery and cutlery so didn't have to use too many things in the cabin.

The staff are amazing!
We arrived late and were met and escorted to our site, being new to camping with a van they arranged a great place for our family and met us late in the evening and set us up with lots of help. Dan and the team were great!
The reception staff were great and helped with everything, our family felt so welcome and the kids had lots of fun in the pool and on the jumping pillow. The park was so clean and tidy and shows how much its cared for as its an older place to stay.
Thank you all to the great team at the park!

The beds were hard as a rock and caused me pain. I hardly slept. There were no spare blankets but the queen bed had electric which was needed at the time we were there.
Despite this, this holiday park is ideally located if you are a birder and/or enjoy nature as it is right beside the Wallamullah Wetland (Lake Winter) where there are a variety of birds.
Another plus is its location which is not far from some pubs for dinner, and a short drive to Lake Wendouree & Botanic Gardens or Lake Burrumbeet, another birding hotspot.
Unfortunately, while we were there the weather was terrible - wet and cold and often windy but going there in better weather would be much nicer.
It was a shame that they were burning off for much of the time we were there so the smoke was drifting over the wetland making it hazy and unpleasant smelling. Perhaps next time, they could hire a mulcher to break down the branches etc, and use it as mulch which would be much more eco-friendly.
It looks like it could be a great holiday park with activities for the kids, an indoor pool, communal areas, and a gym so we were hoping that perhaps they were on a big improvement program and we were there at a bad time.
Still, uncomfortable beds mean we won't be going back and I am sure many others would feel the same, especially if they are getting on in years and already have joint pain.
My hope is that they take this review as helpful criticism so they can improve in the areas mentioned. If they do that, they will have an excellent holiday park. Lovely staff who were very helpful.

Sorry to hear your stay wasn't as enjoyable as it should have been.In future, please come and see us and we would have tried to make your stay more comfortable, we certainly would have provided you with some blankets. As we never want to see guests leave unhappy. We will certainly look at the replacement of a bed for your cabin, thanks again for the feedback.
