First time ditsy was pleasurable! Greeted nicely at reception, friendly & efficient. Hotel upgrade is modern, stylish & just how I like it! as other reviews state, the room was small but perfect for me. Modern glass wall separating the bathroom from the rest of the room, nice modern chair, great heating, two choices here. Bed large and comfy. Walls...

I liked this Hotel. Its location is first class with the cinema, gallery and restaurants nearby. Free parking is available via a rear lane way. The studio room was small - almost like a Japanese Motel room but it was well designed and didn't feel cramped. The bathroom was behind a frosted glass wall which opened up the room. The...

Beautiful old building with high ceilings, great bar and plenty of meal options. I've stayed here a couple of times now and it's been very good both times. The rooms are large, have had a modern refurbishment with a reasonable mini bar, flat screen, desk & a comfy lounge chair. The bathrooms are large and modern. Staff are great, if...

We stayed 2 nights in a room in The George Hotel. It was all nicely fitted and furnished throughout and our room was nice. It was small, there was no wasted space, but it was all you needed. The modern bathroom was behind a glass wall and we used the light from it to add to the room. The heating...

The George Hotel is a beautiful old hotel that has maintained its charm while being modern. The rooms are very clean and quiet although not very spacious. The bathroom was clean and refurbished. The George is situated right in the middle of town and is within walking distance of many cafés and restaurants although if you don't want to go...

We had an overnighter in Ballarat and the George worked out very well. Check-in and out were quick and easy, the room was very comfortable and the fresh milk we requested delivered promptly and with a smile. Nearby are cafes (L'espresso was a real find) and restaurants and plenty of Ballarat history to stroll to, including the terrific art gallery.

We called in to the ground floor of The George Hotel looking for a light lunch- just before a Ballarat downpour! How lucky to find this in time! The light and airy cafe has a beautiful glass sky light - luckily rain-proof - their lunch menu was varied altho we all opted for soup -and what a huge bowl of...

A little more expensive than some of the other places nearby but well worth it for the history. The room I had was well decorated and very spacious. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ballarat's second oldest hotel, the original George Hotel building was erected in 1854. The George Hotel is located in what is known as one of Australia's most important historical streets and is opposite the Art Gallery of Ballarat, walking distance from Ballarat's Visitor Information Centre and a few doors down from the local cinemas. Over the past 3 years the hotel has undergone a major refurbishment to bring its hotel style rooms, including some apartment style accommodation, to a four and half star standard. The hotel is now also home to the Ballarat RSL with memorabilia displayed within the hotel. Newly refurbished bars and dining areas now operate seven days and at the rear is a new upmarket lounge which operates weekends for guests and discerning patrons with strict standards. One of Ballarat's most popular meeting places, The Lane offers a street cafe and alfresco dining, alongside the Lane Restaurant (popular with foodies) and Heritage Bar & Restaurant offering breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week. ... more   less
