the staff were friendly and the modern rooms in the old style building were an unexpected but pleasant surprise. The rooms were a good temperature however the corridors a little warm. Would definitely stay again.

We had a wonderful stay at the beautiful historical George Hotel in Ballarat. The room was excellent and comfortable, staff pleasant and the food at the hotel good and reasonably priced. The hotel is well situated in town. I had not been to Ballarat since the 1980s and it is still a lovely town full of history.

Room was quite good, very modern Minibar quite cheap Room service very fast with good in-house options Doesn't have a fitness centre which would have been handy during a work trip Car parking terrible though when you arrive, you'll end up circling a dozen times and parking a mile away - once you check in you get a key for...

Stayed here for a wedding recently. Great location in the middle of the city. As we would not be spending much time in our room, we booked a standard room. It was great. Small with modern amenities. Well appointed 'up to date' bathroom and a comfy bed. Staff were terrific from the moment we stepped through the hotel doors to...

Stayed here for our daughters wedding made a big mistake by booking a family room as for the second night there we had our granddaughter stay in her own portacot. so we paid big bucks for a waste of space. the first night we hardly slept due to a lot of noise for the price we paid i would have...

Was in town for a friends 50th. What a great hotel. Great sized rooms. Big bathroom and living areas. Could not fault this hotel in anyway. Did not try any other areas of the hotel but if the rooms are reflective of the rest of the hotel. All will be brilliant.

The George is in a great place to visit Ballarat, in the middle of an impressive heritage lined street it offered great bar, dining and accomodation. Our twin room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. There is also private parking at the rear through a swiped gate. The night we stayed there was live music (and a free cocktail!) which...

Thank you Elissa C. We are thrilled that you noted the good ambience of the hotel. We work very hard to create this for our guests. It does not happen by accident.

Went for a visit and beer. Amazing building with heritage bars and friendly staff. Did not dine in the restaurant but amazing space in a sun filled glasses annexe. Well worth a visit to see a beautifully restored building

Great venue. Had visited a few times. Mostly, staff very good. However, on a couple of occasions a couple of staff members would be good to remember that smirking to each other in a rather put down approach ... just because a customer does not say something in their own way or speak according to themselves does not make it...

We arrived on December 23, late afternoon, and were immediately upgraded to a room in The George's Sister establishment, next door. The room that we had booked was right above the main entertainment area and the receptionist advised that as it was Christmas break up night, it would be a very noisy experience. We were extremely pleased with the change,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ballarat's second oldest hotel, the original George Hotel building was erected in 1854. The George Hotel is located in what is known as one of Australia's most important historical streets and is opposite the Art Gallery of Ballarat, walking distance from Ballarat's Visitor Information Centre and a few doors down from the local cinemas. Over the past 3 years the hotel has undergone a major refurbishment to bring its hotel style rooms, including some apartment style accommodation, to a four and half star standard. The hotel is now also home to the Ballarat RSL with memorabilia displayed within the hotel. Newly refurbished bars and dining areas now operate seven days and at the rear is a new upmarket lounge which operates weekends for guests and discerning patrons with strict standards. One of Ballarat's most popular meeting places, The Lane offers a street cafe and alfresco dining, alongside the Lane Restaurant (popular with foodies) and Heritage Bar & Restaurant offering breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week. ... more   less
