We were invited to Club Wyndham Ballarat, but it’s actually in Sebastapol, for a long weekend. We had a guided tour on the first afternoon, where we learned that after the death of the owner the property was acquired by the Catholic Church and used as an orphanage. There is a heated swimming pool, tennis courts, gym and disc golf (frisbee) course, canoes and paddle boats in the lake and more. We finish the tour with a drink in the lounge and later had a game of pool. Our hosts had a bedroom with an ensuite. We had an other bedroom with a double bed and would have shared a bathroom with the occupants of the third bedroom, with two single beds, except there weren’t any. The kitchen was well equipped and our hosts cooked for us on the first night. We watched football etc on Fox Sports from comfortable lounge chairs. Our room also had a TV. It was such a great place for a relaxing weekend.

I was a bit apprehensive after a less than optimal stay at Wyndham in the Hunter. The grounds are fantastic to walk around in with a pool, tennis courts, walks, gym, pool room and reading areas all available. Ample off street parking and 20 min drive to Ballarat and 10min to Woolworths for supplies. The rooms were outstanding. Beds very comfortable, great kitchen space to work with, dining table and an excellent selection of TV channels and movies for hire. great place for a family to relax. The stable is an interesting view as is the Chapel. The Chapel would make a fantastic in-house restaurant as non are available on site. For comparison it is as good as a Fraser Apartment. Only draw back is the a/c is only in the lounge room and to small to handle the whole space. One in each room would be ideal as the windows don't open without some way of supporting them open. We will return

My partner and I and our three teenage children spent three nights here. The check-in process was very simple and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean, tidy, and comfortable with all modern conveniences. The only minor complaint was the lack of a full-length mirror. The hotel and grounds were well maintained. They have done a great job of updating and modernizing the facilities while maintaining the character and historical aspects of the buildings. While there are parts of the complex that are still in need of restoration, it is understandable that this is a long and expensive process due to the heritage status. I wish we had a little more time to enjoy the many activities offered.
We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the hotel and grounds with James. His passion for history and for the hotel itself was very obvious and made the tour extremely interesting.
The hotel is quite a distance from the city centre, but easily accessible by car. Amenities such as supermarkets and takeaways were relatively close (20-minute walk).

It is a Manor with today's comfort and yesterday's charm. Very clean property with beautiful surroundings. So much of history involved the gold rush days. We absolutely loved it. The tour of the hotel and its surroundings were excellent by the Manager. The disappointment was we were invitees to stay there by a club Wyndham member. On the day of the departure, we were invited for a presentation about how to become a club Wyndham member and its advantages. That was fine. But ask us to pay $5600 then and there. Only now not later was the advice which was really challenging. We were not allowed to do a survey on our own. We felt it was a bit demanding and one of the presenters said to us we have given you a free accomadation as well. It was very harsh. Yes, we occupied their territory because we got an invitation from our friends but because of the Hotel Management. That's not the correct attitude from the management. Disappointing. Even if we had the intentions of joining the club with comments of that nature we just ignored them.

Thank you for your review. The history tour is something that our guests really enjoy and our staff certainly enjoy immersing themselves in the history of the property. As our Blythwood Grange approaches 150 years of age there are many stories to tell. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Loved our stay in one of the 3bdrm apartments. We took advantage of the veggie garden to cook with fresh zucchini, siverbeet and chives.
The staff were very helpful 24/7 when we need their assistance. The whole team is friendly including the maintenance and gardening team as well.
No real pressure to attend member meetings which is what we prefer.

What a fascinating place to stay - full of history. Plenty for the grandkids to do with the playground, lake, jumping castle and swimming pool. There is also a big playground just up the road. The outdoor bbq's could probably do with a bit more cover considering Ballarat hasn't got the best weather but we hit a good patch. The first floor apartments mean you have to carry your luggage and your food supplies up stairs because there is no lift. An on site restaurant would also be handy so you don't have to cook all your meals - the Chapel? Well equipped kitchen and a big fridge.

Thank you for your positive review and nice to see you highlight some of the activities that the kids can participate with while onsite. The Ballarat weather is out of our control, but it has been a lovely spring so far and it is great to see the paddle boats and canoes out and being used. We look forward to welcoming you family back again soon.

Wyndham Ballarat is a historic building set in extensive gardens with a picturesque lake. Units are very spacious and very well heated. A car is absolutely necessary as it is about 10mins drive from the centre of Ballarat

We stayed in Ballarat for a week in August and the accomodation at Club Wyndham was fantastic. We had everything required in the spacious 2 bedroom unit from toiletries to cooking facilities. The heating was great and we were certainly never cold in the unit. Only improvement I could see was for the pool and spa and sauna to be in the same building

Thanks Judy for your review, and I agree that the old style hydronic heating still has a place in the modern world. It certainly keeps the rooms warm; even on the coldest Ballarat days. The pool was built in 1946 as a donation from the sportsman of Ballarat to the then orphanage so the boys would have this facility. It would be nice to have it closer but will respect the heritage listing and historical value of the way it once was. Again, great to hear you had such a good stay.

Old world charm of buildings merged with modern conveniences within unit. Staff were extremely helpful when required and prompt to deal with issues. The grounds were a pleasure to walk in, with the lake, paddle boats and canoes a great extra. The development of the gold panning area added to our enjoyment.

Thank you for your question and for the all informative replies from other reviewers. As stated, only our deluxe rooms have airconditioning but because of the high celings and the celing fans in all rooms I'm sure your stay will be comfortable. We look forward to welcoming you in late February.
