Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I spent two days here . The history of the hotel is interesting and the grounds are immaculate. One small problem is that the pool , spa and sauna is a distance from the main building. This aside we totally enjoyed ourselves.

Thank you for your review and great to hear you had an enjoyable stay. The location of the pool is an interesting one as it gets raised from time to time; particularly when Ballarat can offer some cool weather. The heritage listed pool was built in 1946 and is the original pool and pump house so we honour the history and heritage listing of the property buy maintaining the structure as it is. The spa/gym/sauna is in the 110-year-old laundry house and again we respect the position of these buildings for best use. But again thank your for the review as you have summed up the property very well.

What a fascinating place to stay - full of history. Plenty for the grandkids to do with the playground, lake, jumping castle and swimming pool. There is also a big playground just up the road. The outdoor bbq's could probably do with a bit more cover considering Ballarat hasn't got the best weather but we hit a good patch. The first floor apartments mean you have to carry your luggage and your food supplies up stairs because there is no lift. An on site restaurant would also be handy so you don't have to cook all your meals - the Chapel? Well equipped kitchen and a big fridge.

Thank you for your positive review and nice to see you highlight some of the activities that the kids can participate with while onsite. The Ballarat weather is out of our control, but it has been a lovely spring so far and it is great to see the paddle boats and canoes out and being used. We look forward to welcoming you family back again soon.

Lots of options for things to do at the resort, in Ballarat, and the surrounding area. Loved the buildings and their history, and the grounds are beautiful. My rooms had all that I needed, including a very comfortable bed. Staff were friendly and engaging. Really enjoyed my stay and keen to return.

We stayed in Ballarat for a week in August and the accomodation at Club Wyndham was fantastic. We had everything required in the spacious 2 bedroom unit from toiletries to cooking facilities. The heating was great and we were certainly never cold in the unit. Only improvement I could see was for the pool and spa and sauna to be in the same building

Thanks Judy for your review, and I agree that the old style hydronic heating still has a place in the modern world. It certainly keeps the rooms warm; even on the coldest Ballarat days. The pool was built in 1946 as a donation from the sportsman of Ballarat to the then orphanage so the boys would have this facility. It would be nice to have it closer but will respect the heritage listing and historical value of the way it once was. Again, great to hear you had such a good stay.

Comfortable modern conveniences in beautiful old buildings. Large rooms with good heating. A staff member took a group on a really interesting tour to explain the history of the old buildings. Gym, pool, tennis, games available. A lovely lake in the grounds where you can borrow canoes or paddle boats. Need a car - out of town a bit.

The perfect place for a trip away. Especially if you like historical places. Many attractions but unfortunately most closed due to post covid problems. The resort , though, had enough on offer to keep us occupied. We tried panning successfully for gold and gemstones. Swimming in the heated pool, spa and made use of the pool table. Absolutely enjoyed our week. The extensive car parking was a bonus.

We had a wonderful time at Club Wyndham Ballarat. The property itself is beautiful and there are so many activities in the very large property for young and old. If you just want to relax there is no need to leave, with paddle boats, bikes, tennis, BBQ’s and beautiful grounds to walk around. The staff were incredible and the Manager James went out of his way to ensure we had a great time. They also have guided tours a couple of evenings a week highlighting some of the history of the property. I definitely recommend a stay for couples or families.

The original double-storey mansion, named Blythewood Grange and now housing reception, was constructed for James Leckie in 1878 and remained a private residence for around a quarter of a century. We were accommodated in the adjoining Gilston House built in 1911 and which for the best part of seven decades was the site of the St Joseph's Orphanage. The resort has both a main entrance on Grant St and a rear entrance on Morgan St from where you can access a large carpark. Installed in a well-appointed two-bedroom unit which had been thoroughly cleaned, the only quibbles related to not having a cutting board in the kitchen and changes in the water temperature when taking a shower. The staff were pleasant & never overbearing, the maintenance man responded quickly when we had an issue with the safe and noise from other guests rarely a factor. The Chapel, also built in 1911 and open to guests until 5.00 pm daily, is a good place for quiet contemplation; the grounds are a pleasure to explore with a large lake, well-kept gardens, significant trees, an outdoor chess set, small playground, tennis courts, indoor swimming pool, bike barn etc. awaiting your discovery and there is still a sense of relative isolation, but a housing development on Morgan St might change that. No restaurant on site, but you will be furnished with a list of local eateries at the time of check-in and there are also three local supermarkets - along Albert St - a short drive away for those who like to self-cater. We travelled at a time where a number of locations (including Skipton) and events were affected by or cancelled due to flooding, e.g., the Talbot Community Market, but in our week there we incorporated a visit to Clunes & Creswick, attended the Best of Ballarat Rally at Mitchell Park near the airport, had a family outing to the Ballarat Wildlife Park, enjoyed a return train trip from Ballarat to Maryborough and wandered through the Ballarat Botanical Gardens. What we liked most about our stay was a feeling of being transported back in time without having to forgo modern convenience and what we liked the least was having to pack our bags & head back to Melbourne after a week there.
