Stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is located on a steep slope about 10-15 mins walk to the heart of city centre. If you are driving, there are limited parking lots in front of the hotel which is complimentary, that can saves you easily AUD 20 for the overnight parking compared to other hotels in more central location which has an on-site parking. The room is basic but clean. The front desk is operating on limited hours hence you may need to get the room key from the safe box if you arrive late into Launceston. Full instructions will be given to you prior to arrival and it is easy. The hotel is of the low rise without any elevator hence if you have mobility issues especially with big luggage, that may pose a challenge. If you are on the highest floor (3rd floor), you can have a sweeping view over the Tamar Valley which is quite a nice view to behold. The bathroom is basic with a stading shower, WC and wash basin. The decor is a little dated but everything is working so I would say it is still a comfortable stay.

I visit Launceston a few times a year & while it was my first time staying at Areca Launceston, I will definitely stay here again. Tucked behind, & managed in conjunction with the stunning Waratah on York, the Areca Launceston was simple, clean & comfortable. As someone who likes a firm bed, the bed was sensational - probably the most comfortable I've found In Launceston to date. I was also particularly happy to see windows that opened enough to let fresh air through. Speaking of the windows, the view is lovely, overlooking City Park & down to the river. Which is the only potential downside of this accommodation - it's perched on one of the steepest streets I've ever seen! Definitely a leg burner. There is a less steep option, but you are on a hillside, and the city centre is down the hill.

I stayed 6 nights at the Areca in Launceston. Quick and easy check-in. Very friendly staff at reception. The reception is not at Areca but only just behind at the Waratah on York. There is a night entrance and lots of security camera’s around. As a solo traveller I definitely felt very safe. I would definitely recommend the hotel. Great location, beautiful view of City Park and beyond. There is no lift but I managed to manoeuvre my luggage quite easily. The hotel is small and located away from traffic noise, which is great for a good night’s sleep. The bed was super comfy, as were the pillows. Nice toiletries supplied along with tea and coffee station. A lovely walk to town to try out many of the amazing cafes. If you have any issues with climbing stairs then I would recommend you request the ground floor. You would definitely need a car if you have any mobility issues as there is a very steep hill to walk down. I walked up and down for my entire stay without any issues and I’m a moderately fit 60 year. I will definitely be staying at the Areca on my next visit.

The room was clean and comfortable with a great view over Launceston from the first floor. There is no lift so if you are no longer young you might want to consider this. There are tea or coffee facilities but no food is available at any time. The bathroom looks great but there is nowhere to put anything. Had to store our toiletry bags on the floor under the sink. OK for one night.

Areca was comfortable and well appointed. The room was a decent size, with a good bed and bathroom facilities. We arrived very late so check in was via a keycode and lock box, This all worked well but if you think you may be arriving after office hours, contact the hotel to arrange in advance. There was car parking, which is why we had booked this location. A 10 minute walk downhill to the city (a steep 20 minute walk back!) and not to far from a couple of pubs for meals. There is no restaurant on site. I'd book again for the convenient location.

The rooms are quietly located away from the hustle and bustle with wonderful views. The rooms are spacious and modern. The City Park, CBD and night-life is quite close. We enjoyed our stay. The management is friendly and helpful.

This small hotel was clean and had good views of the city. Check-in staff were very lovely. Rooms were a reasonable size and quite clean. It is a fair walk up and down a very steep hill to get into the city. The kitchen area serving breakfast is currently not operating. No opening windows so it can feel quite stuffy in the room. Overall this hotel is good value for the price paid.

The room was clean with standard provisions and service was friendly. The bed was comfortable and there is a good windows for fresh air. However the room was small, access involved steep driveways and lots of stairs. Absolutely no good for anyone unable to climb or carry bags up a lot of stairs. No room service, no restaurant, no breakfast available. Reception is shared with an adjacent Hotel. Limited parking outside the hotel door but other parking available further down the steep drive and under the hotel. Not ideal in terms of convenience and access. Would I stay here again? No.

Nice hotel and very clean rooms. It's in a good location however is at the top of a very steep hill, so walking back from the park took a bit longer than it looks on maps! The room was quiet and had everything we needed, including complimentary parking and a large bathroom.

Indeed, Areca Launceston is located on top of the hill and it is quite a hill to walk up - short but steep. Hopefully the views made up the exercise! Our group stayed one night en route to Derby. We were all very happy with our rooms and had a comfortable night. The staff went out of their way to store the bike boxes for us to .pick up a week later when we left Launceston. We had the downstairs twin room which had a king and a single bed and was larger than the queen rooms. All rooms had views of the city, and refurbished bathrooms. Thanks to the staff at Areca for our enjoyable stay.
