Hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston delights guests with its historical charm and central location, making it a stone's throw away from various city attractions and dining venues. The hotel's cleanliness receives high marks, with numerous travelers commending the well-kept and spotless facilities. However, opinions on the rooms and service vary, with some guests finding the rooms spacious yet dated and experiencing inconsistent service levels. While the ambiance is generally appreciated for its unique character, guests warn of extra costs for amenities like water and parking and suggest that the value proposition may not match the price point.

Every staff gives off the vibe they are very sincere about customer service, but when it comes to actual implementation of a request, they hardly care.
For the Deluxe Twin Room (twin double bed) booked for 3 adults with a baby, the room had bathroom kits for one adult only: one dental kit, one vanity kit, one shower cap, etc.
Upon request for more, the person on the other side of the phone responded politely saying perhaps we booked the room for one adult and a baby only, which by itself is a condescending response.
Later, a staff member arrived with more kits, but this time without any dental kits.
At this point, I believe Hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston expects three adults to share a single toothbrush.

We booked through Qantas hotels at the last minute and could use a voucher and take advantage of some bonus points on offer. There were only twins available when we booked - we asked in advance if there were any King beds available, but heard nothing back. On arrival we got an upgrade to a King Executive ,which was great, but you didn't tell us! Check in was very average. The rooms are large and good overall, but we hated the dark picture in the room (6004). The breakfast was OK but some of the food was not fresh and the staff need to stop having personal chats across the room. Be professional!

Parking is $10 and you can pre-book before arriving using your car number plate.

We like the location of this hotel but it is very old-fashioned.

We stayed for 2 nights. We had a very comfortable, clean room with a king bed, lots of storage and comfortable club chairs. The large TV had access to Netflix so we were able to log in, enjoy a glass of wine and watch a movie or two. The room was quite warm and we were happy to be able to open a window a tad. The bathroom was large and very clean. The shower over the bath was quite cramped, which was the only downside. Also, we would have liked housekeeping to replace dirty cups and glasses when they were servicing the room. This was the only oversight. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but enjoyed a few happy hour drinks at the bar in the elegant foyer. Great location. Can highly recommend Grand Chancellor Launceston. PS we can highly recommend dining at La Cantina's Italian, or Wang's Chinese restaurants which are relatively good value and just 2 mins walk from the hotel.

This is suppose to be one of the best in Launceston. It is certainly not Grand by any means, We were allocated a room on the first floor where the hallway carpet had crinkles in it and was a hazard. When we checked in any help with luggage was not offerred and it was not busy. Can't spot any conceirge either. The room has seen better days. Separate Brassy hot and cold taps that were pretty old. Have to step into the Bath to have a shower. Grout had mould and dirty shower curtain. We were going to put up with this until the 2nd night - smoke filled the room and the night manager said it was not someone smoking but from burning that occurred in the region. However when we went outside there was no smoke smell at all. So we had to change rooms to the 5th floor and they said they had to upgrade us. Well for $210 a nite it was not up to grade for the value.
Also service at the restaurant was not great for breakfast we waited 7 minutes before I had to go to the back and get a person to indicate where we can seat. This was only 9am! This nearly happened again on the 2nd day. The other no professionallism shown was that the staff was chatting about their plans shouting at each other over our heads while we were trying to have breakfast, THey were also banging and resetting the tables for lunch and putting on blue table cloths. If Breakfast is served until 10:30 am, this should be done after breakfast time slot. Not Professional.
Based on our experience for breakfast on the 1st day, we decided to try other restaurant for our dinner. WE enjoyed our dinner much better where the service was more welcoming in a little restaurant!

The only good thing about our stay was the location. We would not recommend the Grand Chancellor as it certainly was not Grand!

Whilst the rooms were a good size the beds were a bit saggy, thankfully there were 2 beds in each room, so that we slept in a bed each. Valance around one of the beds looked like it had been wet and was discoloured and mouldy, window would not stay open and both of our rooms had a spotlight pointed at the windows, way too bright at night.

Dinner was dreadful. My Club Sandwich was soaking in aioli so much so I picked the chicken etc off the bread. The others had the Avenue Burger which again was picked over, McDonalds would have been better. We sat there like the invisibles, were not offered a drink, desert or coffee, nor was the table cleared away after the meals. Rather the staff were putting all their attentions on a function that was happening across the hallway. After sitting there for over an hour and a half we went up to pay, I asked to speak to the F&B Manager, who was completely indifferent to our 'dining' experience and actually displayed his anger, even though we were not at all rude.

We did not have breakfast there after our 'wonderful dining experience the previous night', instead took our business to the Maple Cafe outside, which was very enjoyable and had lovely friendly staff.

My wife and I stay at The Hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston on a 4 night stay for our short winter break.
We had a wonderful stay from the moment we walked through the huge foyer which is very impressive.
We were able to leave our luggage at the secure front desk as we had arrived early and received a phone from reception when our room was available.
We had a lovely corner King room, it was really large, lovely king bed that was so comfortable, small couch and arm chair which was great for watching Netflix in the evenings.
The bathroom was very modern with all the amenities that you would expect and the heater was amazing which we could control ourselves.
The Happy Hour from 5pm to 6.30pm is a bonus and very popular with the hotel guests, nice fire place and lots of areas to sit and relax in.
We ate at the hotel on our first night and the menu was fine although a little on the high side price wise however that seems to be the norm these days no matter what state you're in.
All the staff we interacted with were very friendly, professional and willing to help if needed.
We would definitely stay at the hotel again if we return to Launceston due to our positive stay and the Location is just perfect to walk to all the attractions around the CBD of Launceston.

Grand Chancellor Hotel was a great place to stay for our recent trip to Launceston. Buffet breakfast had lots of choices available. Check in experience was quick and effortless, car parking available next door for $6 per night - reasonable amount of parks available but plenty of street parking also available. Rooms are a bit dated - need a bit of an upgrade, especially the tv/movie system - let us just plug our own devices in! Bathroom a bit oddly configured with toilet behind door and a bath/shower arrangement. Other guests spoiled things by being noisy at all hours of the morning including slamming doors

The furniture looks old and tired and needs replacement. Free water should be provided in the rooms for guests, and free parking should be available, even if it is included in the hotel fee. The bathroom is very small, with not enough room to sit comfortably on the commode. The bathtub needs to be replaced, and there should be a means to prevent the mirrors from fogging up.

We opted for the Grand Chancellor due to location and price. It was a big tick on both counts.

We stayed for two nights and inside parking (for a fee) was very useful for getting around and seeing the sights further afield.

The rooms were fine. Clean and fairly spacious. We had an accessible
Room and it ticked my mobility needs well.

We dined in on the first night and had a few drinks to celebrate the start of our road trip with our friends travelling with us.

To our surprise and delight, there was the weekly food market set up the next morning in a carpark straight across the road. It was wonderful bright sunny morning had at the market and sampling their wares.

Delicious breakfast at the markets to suit every taste and dietry need. Met lovely locals - both two and four legged.

Second night we headed to a nearby Indian rest ain’t for a very tasty meal that all four of us enjoyed.

I would def stay at the GC again.

Beautiful hotel and luxurious and everything in a beautiful style. Spacious room, large parking until 12 noon. Good bathroom. The hotel is within walking distance of the center with many restaurants and breakfast options.
Only: the bottles of water in the room were not free. Strange, that is not normal for a hotel of such class. Minus point for the hotel.
